So sorry a out your bag steph .l would have sent it back too its not a cheap bag and for how much thay cost you want it perfect for years to come. Steph people who know you through your channel know you would never bag a bag for content so dont think that way sweetie .people who watch your channel will also know you love your bags in new conditions so this bag would have drove you nuts if it had started to peel and you would have been upset if that had happened. Good decision sending it back💖💖💖💖💖💖

You made the right decision. I think it will get worse over time. The slightest hit on the corners that are remove the layer whether it be from table or car it would probably take the coating off. The repair service in Dior was poor my bag actually was more damaged then it arrived so I am very cautious about purchasing handbags from them. I wanted the patent lady Dior but I decided to call up handbag clinic to ask do you get Dior patent bags often and they informed me it’s the worst to repair so probably best to avoid. Maybe contact them to get that reassurance? I think honestly your paying for the quality, material and craftsmanship not just the branding which I feel designers are forgetting.

@@Hafaadai. I returned mine and just got a reply from them yesterday. I was given a credit note to exchange it for another bag so yes you can return it.

What I don't like is that these bags are SO overpriced right now and they have zero accountability. I wouldn't want a $100 bag that flakes off in 6 months. Nah.

Exactly... and I have no idea how they would fix the issue. I'd rather have the money to decide how I want to spend it and have the choice of fashion houses than a credit note, for example. I hope they sort it

@@Handbagholic I hope so too. But it's not looking good with Chanel being questionable, now Dior? I get the feeling that they (these up-scale houses) see these bags are art pieces that shouldn't be used. Which is fine if you are collecting art pieces but a much different mindset. I agree 100% that fixing that flaking/peeling doesn't seem possible and could mess up the bag even more.

Also if you exchange for credit and then want to exchange again if you decide on another bag, then, you might not be able to. Not sure Dior works like that but 80% sure LV does that. They want people to be persuaded to get store credit and forget the money. Also LV is making bonds, aka loan stock papers, i wonder 🤔 if they use store credit to invest and take risks against value in bonds and doing their own banking. I would love to do some nitty gritty research into that

I think we need to stop applying the word "luxury" to bags that are essentially very overpriced and, based on how they are made, cheap. It's like the Chanel 22 bag. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth to be taken advantage of, which is what is happening a lot lately. I wouldn't buy it again if I were in your shoes. In fact I wouldn't buy Dior again if I were in your shoes. I won't buy Chanel anymore, at least not new. I'll stick to the brands I trust are made well, like Fendi, Hermes and Bvlgari, and the lesser known luxury brands who actually put their heart and soul into each piece. At the end of the day, that's what luxury is about - care and attention to detail, not a money making factory.

This is unacceptable. I'm starting to fall out of love with luxury as this quality issue is all too common and wayyyy too often ignored and unaddressed. Glad you returned it. You'll find something else if they don't come out with an updated bag. I mean this is recall level.

I agree, if it's affecting all the range they need to stop selling it until the problem is solved. I did wonder why all the other small bags has a bigger increase than this one, as this was originally more expensive but now it's one of the cheapest versions of the bag

I heard people wondering if it's really leather or if its made of plastic. Do uou know? I think you did the right thing sending it back Steph you don't want to be scared wearing your bag. I understand you feel in love with it but you can always buy it again later on. I would be furious if something like that would happen.

Hi Steph, thanks a lot for bringing this to our attention. I recently purchased this bag in the medium. Even though it's past the 30-day exchange period, I have not started using it yet and contacted my SA with this concern. My SA invited me to come into the store to talk to the manager. The manager told me that they indeed had issues with the first batch of this bag back in March, and that while they have not had issues with this new batch, they understand why I'd be worried. I requested for an exchange to the patent leather so black one (which was a close second choice for me to begin with and combined with the uncertainty of whether they've fixed the coating problem, I felt it was an overall more practical choice for my lifestyle even though I did prefer the look of the diamond motif one). Upon confirming that I had not started using my diamond motif, they exchanged the bag for me with zero issues. I have always been and still am impressed with the level customer service I receive at my local Dior store (Vancouver, Canada) and from my SA. I will certainly continue to shop there. Appreciate very much you letting us know about issues like these to help us make informed decisions with our purchases!

Part of me feels that houses are pushing continuously to come up with the next concept and are subsequently forcing leather to appear aesthetically attractive in whatever way they can. The same as the issues with the Chanel 22 bag. At a certain point they have to coat or reinforce the leather and those components are failing. If a bag fails in any way within a short space of time then it's not fit for purpose. 100% correct decision to return it.

I unfortunately bought the bag in late April and the black coating came off after 1 careful wear. It was completely scratched off from the strap's hardware touching it. Same with the feet - completely chipped off. It was sent to Paris about a month ago and I don't expect it to come back before September. While I expect black hardware to chip at some point, I would assume it would at least stay on for a couple of months/years. My So Black Reissue from 2017 has had no issues so far. Given I only wore the Lady Dior once, the stud rubbing didn't appear on mine. By the way I also own a grey Ultramatte Lady Dior (matte hardware in grey) and no rubbing or chipping issues at all. You certainly made the right choice. Had I seen the pictures back then, I would have refrained from purchasing it. Given my wonderful SA left end of last year, I have had to deal with another SA that has not necessarily delivered the best customer service if I may say so.

You made the right choice. Designer brands have become ridiculously overpriced for the quality being offered. There are lesser-priced, not so commercially well-known handbag brands that are of exceptional quality leather, design, and craftsmanship. I, for one, am really done buying brands at exorbitant prices that a) all look the same and b) are questionably crafted. The new Chanel 22 comes to mind. I've seen video after video of the leather peeling on that bag. Ugh. I was in St. Laurent recently looking at the Lou camera bag in the black-on-black matelasee. The black hardware finish on the display model was wearing off in places. The SA told me, "Oh, yeah, that happens." Really? That bag is over $1600! I have purchased bags in the low hundreds with better quality hardware than that. No, thank you. If designer brands want us to shell out thousands of dollars, then we, as consumers, need to demand that the items are of the highest quality. Anything less is unacceptable. And, if we continue to accept sub-par quality at higher prices, they will continue to get away with cutting corners. Not okay. You made the right choice. BTW - Thank you for speaking up. You are benefiting all of us who enjoy designer bags to become more educated consumers.

Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you returned it. Owning a luxury bag should not be this stressful. I was about to run to the store to pick up the d-joy bag with this Diamond motif thinking that the calfskin would be more durable. But now I get to save my money to buy a true luxury bag that I can use without hesitation.

I think you made the right choice. I have heard a lot of horror stories about Diors customer service lately so who knows how they would have reacted if it had happened to you. I feel so badly for those bag owners who sent you those pictures, that is terrible!!!

Totally agree with your decision to return it! Looks like something that can happen even when the bag rubs against body/clothes! I was in love with this bag, until i’ve seen how the leather scraped when you were putting the bee on 😱 i was like nop I don’t want that! If they’re providing something that can easily scratch THEIR bag then sorry I don’t trust them!

Absolutely agree with you. That quality issue is not something you can overlook. Especially because these issues are happening at 6 months I wonder how it will look years from now! But definitely there is a chance that this issue is only on the matte leather so maybe there is still a Lady Dior bag in your future. But for sure you did the right thing!! Hey Steph. Lady Dior Diamond 💎Motif bag is definitely the best Dior bag I ever seen. But this what is happening with ultramatte black bags/slg is unacceptable. I heard before that ultramatte hardware is easy to scratch but I never expected that that expensive and one of the top brands bag can have that issue. You know all of these issues (also a lot of Chanel bags) concern me and I am not sure if it is really good idea to spend thousands for the bags which will be ruined in few months…..

I am so thankful for this video! I have been looking at the same bag for months now, because the rock n roll vibe is totally my style. Not going to lie- I still love the look of it and if someone bought it for me I would definitely keep it 😉 But it is so true.. how can you spend that much on something that will look like that after just a few months of wear?! I had already started my ‘bag fund’ for this bag.. I hope something new catches my eye the way the Dior bag did. It is truly sad!!

I recently bought a Caro wallet bcs I want that particular bag, so I will typically try a small leather good first in order to assess the quality. This was my first Dior purchase and I was thoroughly unimpressed with the quality….threads were coming loose in a few days. I have several Capucines and they show no wear and tear after quite a bit of use…same with my Gucci purses. Thanks for the video…I would love a Lady Dior but that’s way too much money to spend on poor quality

This is unacceptable from any bag company. Glad you sent it back. I would have done that, too. The quality issues with new designer bags is why I am into super old LV or Chanel. These things, which are 50 years old and still look good ARE good.

I would probably do the same, and that's why I think that he best option for Lady Dior is the d-lite. It's so unique and rare, everytime I go out with my grey d-lite I get so many compliments and I don't have to baby it at all! It still looks brand new.

Thanks for sharing Steph. Yeah i would return it too after hearing all these. Luckily they allowed you to do so. No way for pay so much and few months down the line, this happened. If they just allowed store credit, perhaps get the Book Tote the new design which are pretty. Furthermore those are in fabric so hopefully the quality are not as bad or at least that is in fabric. Really tired of hearing of all the quality issues with these so called "luxuries" just in their price tag but not quality. Good for you to return it. If i were you, never buy any again not even the SLG.

First of all, I wouldn’t have returned it. Such a panic reaction… and especially, I wouldn’t buy it again if I returned it in the first place. Like I say, these luxury bags are made for people who have money to spare on them. They are not invincible. Just like a Porsche engine can also explode (yes, happened to three people I know). You are most of all paying for a brand name and status, secondly for quality. If you want a fair value for money bag with high quality, I think you should reconsider other contemporary brands.

Hi Kelly, I didn’t make this clear but I would only buy again if they solve this issue. I’m well aware bags wear and tear and you’re paying for the branding - but there is an expected level of quality when it comes to these prices and fashion houses. Coating rubbing off leather within a few months isn’t wear and tear, it’s a manufacturing issue.

You've made the right decision. It's better to return it now unused than go through all the hassle later on. I really believe that the quality across pretty much all designers went downhill. I have bags which I bought twenty years ago and they're still perfect. Recently I've seen bags in shops brand new with poor stitching, wonky leather etc etc. I've decided recently to treat myself and bought a small lilac YSL bag and couldn't believe how badly it was made. It was sent back to harrods the same day it arrived. Looks like these big fashion houses really don't care anymore.

I just got my first Lady Dior today. I bought it pre-loved from a local boutique (they solely sell pre-loved and vintage designer items). Its a 2012 Lady Dior Small in fushia I do like that it has a zipper opening instead of the flap. I can't wait to use it and the price was very reasonable :)

Hi I own this exact bag in the medium size and I have not experienced this. I don’t baby the bag but I don’t wear it as an everyday bag either. I feel the same about this lady dior vs the classics it’s more edgy and puts a smile on my face everyday. I bought mine at Selfridges and the SA Christopher is amazing! I think both Lady Dior Bags are stunning. Now slightly out of topic, I’ve realized this quilted bags trend is now going more into edgy territory. They are not making them super elegant anymore. Im wondering if this trying to be Kate Middleton it’s getting boring. Sure there many occasions to dress more formal or elegant but sometimes we take it too seriously and probably we should add to our outfits an edgier peace. However I think a more elegant bag with a daintier chain is also important to rescue us when we have an event and we don’t have a lot of budget for a whole new outfit. We should all mix and match. Put a more edgy bag to a formal day outfit and add a more formal bag to a casual outfit.

Ok… so I spoke too soon. I did a full check after this video and on the Diamond points, the coating was peeling! It was also peeling around stitching at the bottom of the bag. Unfortunately it was over a month and I took it dior who now need to send it to France for 3 months. You defo did the right thing and I will not be repurchasing this one. Will stick to the classic leather.

Coating chipped off... I think that's a common concern with the matt black Dior version. Some said yes, some said no problem with their bags. Guess it should be a case where you ask Dior what will they do to repair this issue, should it happen??.. 🤔 or avoid getting this matt black version altogether.

I feel your pain too….I bought this bag in medium denim blue from the Paris Montaigne store while I was travelling. I didn’t use it but noticed when I was in Milan the hardware chipped on the fastener that attaches to the handle. I exchanged it at the Milan Napaleone store for a new one. When I returned home I used it once, and then noticed it chipped in three places on the hardware. So disappointing! 🙁 luckily my Dior SA in Vancouver said I could exchange it for another bag. They said they couldn’t guarantee the bag not chipping but I was really upset about returning the diamond motif cause it is so beautiful. I’m still waiting to exchange it for another LD that I like, sadly nothing has caught my eye again. I think you made the right decision. Seems to be a quality issue 😬

You definitely made the right decision. I absolutely love the Lady Dior but no one should accept such a bad quality. I would not even keep it if it was a lot cheaper. Now I‘m confused if I still should get the regular black Abc modell in lampskin.

I have a Dior Lady matte black, that’s now 3 years old and I’m not always the most gentle with my bags. And I just recently noticed flaking, however I think it’s my fault however I had hoped that the quality equaled the price. It’s only on the metal.

Hi Steph - I think you were really good to keep it at all after the unboxing. Your initial charms didn’t fit & the bee charm scratched all the handle to get it on! Just not acceptable for all that money you invested in it. Don’t worry - things happen for a reason. You looked genuinely upset on the video. Take care 🐝

glad you returned it, as soon as you put the charms on you scratched it and this also is unacceptable for a bag this price to be able to scratch so easily, and if there was a possibility of this happening they should have maybe attached them for you. the prices of these bags now are seriously ridiculous…i have just had an issue with a polene bag and the customer service has been out of this world excellent, maybe we should start supporting these lower luxury brands, let’s face it, the quality is just as good.

Got mine early Jan this year, wore it very carefully for four times and it’s stating to show similar wear and tear in the bottom four corners 😢 love it so much also am at the point of deciding whether or not to return it

It looks like the coating is peeling! You did the right thing returning it. I think if you want to rebuild this, I'd wait at least a couple of years to see if they fix the issue.

I'm so sorry that this happened to you, especially because Dior is unbelievably expensive! You're so right when you say you pay for quality, but the other thing you pay for is CLIENT SERVICE. They should have gotten back to you - and the other people who had issues - and sorted it out. It is essentially the fault of the brand for ramping up manufacturing to meet demand when this clearly needs to be taken off the shelves so the can solve the coating problem. This type of design is clearly a work of art, but a designer bag is also meant to be seen - and, most importantly - used! Houses can't keep up with each other and it's the clients that suffer. Don't accept it. I can see why you'd want to repurchase this as a collector, but maybe you should wait until Dior resolves this issue. Sending you lots of love 💜💜💜

Because of your video, I checked my medium black diamond motif and I also saw the same issues - coating chipping off. :(. I got it in April 2022 and have used it maybe 3x only. I can see the issue on both sides but more on the back. I will go to the store and get them to check.

Got a reply from them that they won’t be able to “fix” the issue so they gave me a credit note to exchange for another bag. Fyi.

When I was at dior, I was looking at the diamond motif bag. The SA immediately said they don't recommend it. Didn't mention about the patches but she mentioned the metal parts on the handle will turn from matt to shiny after constant usage and there is nothing to fix it.

I have a matt black dior bag and it didnt have any issues, i have it for 4 years now. It is probably common quality issues for new bags :( so sad.

Oh man this sucks! It was such a beautiful bag, could tell how much you loved it! I like Lady Dior bags but like $6000 Canadian is too much and I’d feel the same way if something I paid so much for was going to wear like this.

I think you made the right decision - the problem is coated leather bags, same sort of thing is happening with the Chanel 22 - no one wants to spend a lot of money and end up with a nasty peeling bag. There's obviously a serious problem happening with coating the leather with whatever they use - its not working!

Hi Steph, I have a question, if a bag is not in your top 5, why invest in it? Do you think it could be top 5 when I purchase it, or do you know it won’t be? Personally I never buy a bag if I know it’s not as good as, or better than one I already have (given the fact I have many, so they don’t get worn out). Just wondering 💭

Steph, sorry to hear about the Dior bag. I think that a lot of these very unique finishes are beautiful but I don’t think the design houses give enough time and effort to testing the finishes before they release them to the public. A perfect example is Romina Rose May’s purple metallic Chanel. Now if the design houses would stand by their products, I would say to rebuy. But sadly, that doesn’t seem to be the case, therefore as hard as it is, I would say to take a pass. 😢

OMG, I'm glad I saw your video because my husband said he would buy me a Dior bag. The quality looks horrible, worse than my Kate Spade, avenue mini satchel, which is sturdy, no scratches and the shape is gorgeous and unique. When I carried it to events and social gatherings, a guy friend kept looking at my bag and said it's so cute. Even a guy likes it.

I bought a YSL Nikki with a leather logo. That leather logo started flaking after three wears. I was gutted. When I went back they offered to repair it and did. They mentioned they’d only repair it free of charge once. Since then I learned all those leather logos get damaged super quickly. I can’t believe they still make them if the quality is that bad.

Years ago, I bought a Stella McCartney bag. It turned out to be the biggest waste of money. The bag fell apart after a month. I wish I returned it when I had the chance.

Steph I know you loved that Matt black bag but you’ve made the right decision to return. Please get yr refund & don’t buy again, forewarned is forearmed. All the things you talked about, such as price increases, lack of stock or difficulty of getting items, being ghosted by SA, etc. are reason’s that carrying bags we already have is a good idea. They just keep coming out with such beautiful items, unfortunately the quality is sometimes in question.

Personally the coated matte isn't my favorite, but I wonder if it's something that could be fixed w/o much difficulty if you really like it. Coating like this could be difficult to do in such a way that stays put unfortunately.

I'm going through the exact same thing with this bag. I love love love the look of it! Got it because of the edgyness too. Bought the ABC small size from the website in december. Loved it, but could not get the charm-badges on the strap. Then I thought it was a bit small to my liking so went in my local store and exchanged it to a medium. So far so good. But after trying the zipper 2-3 times on the inside pocket...it broke. Had to wait a week or so for them to order me a new one. Got it....same thing with the zipper. It's fine when you try it a couple of times, but then it gets stuck and breaks. I think it could be something with the matte coating on the zipper, it's too dry somehow. So third attempt....got my bag.....but then I noticed that the strap had different style harware on each side. What? They had to order it and actually make me a new strap. Antoher 4 weeks. So, never got to try the bag to see how the leather holds up, but I ended up exchanging it to a medium black/silver in grained leather. The diamond motif still haunts me too. In love with the design, but too much hassle. To think maybe the leather peels as well, nope!

@@hildeh6423 Hi there. I’ve used it for a good 4-5 weeks now and I’m loving it. Can’t see any issues to the leather, and I have not been overly careful at all. Have used it on the subway, for work, crossbody and handheld.😊. I would def buy this type of leather again. It’s kind of similar to Chanel caviar, but not as shiny, but it will develop more sheen over time. I would recommend it for sure, only be aware this one also have a suede lining, so be careful with makeup etc🥰

Leather bags should be made and presented in its natural form as much as possible. Layers and layers of artificial coating, though aesthetically fashionable, does not do good to preserve the long term aesthetic look of the bag. Hence the flaking occurs which will make the bag looked jaded.

Oh dear… you made the right choice. That was my biggest concern about the diamond motif. I asked a Dior sale rep about it the wear and tear on the tops of the diamonds and he said oh it’s not like they are pointed they are slightly rounded… Seems like this design is for display and not for use. I was also obsessed about the 30 Montaigne Chain bag with handle, however they’ve designed the latch to swing upwards from horizontal to a vertical position. When I saw it in store there were scratches on the leather where the latch was brushing against it. I pointed it out the sales rep and he said oh you just need to be careful when opening and closing the bag🤣. I’m so glad I saw it in store rather than ordering it online. How can you make such serious design flaws for that much money!!

I know it’s not good at all is it. That’s the good thing about inspecting display models - you can see where they’re going to wear and tear / issues with the bag!

I had to come back and add another comment (apologies), just because this seems to be where we are at these days. I crochet and was just online looking for wool for a project. I googled "most luxurious yarn" because I'm looking for something incredibly soft and gentle and, well, luxurious in feel. What I got back was a slew of results like "the 5 most expensive yarns in the world". Expensive and luxury are not the same! We've clearly decided they are, and I think recent quality issues just go to show that along the way we've lost the definition of luxury entirely. It has nothing to do with price, and everything to do with quality and care. Price is usually high as a result of those things, but in itself it doesn't magically make something luxurious. It's starting to really irritate me and turn me off to these brands.

I would have returned it. I have a Lady Dior and have no problem. Mine is vintage. I love it. I would definitely return the one you have. Because of the wear, it probably would happen to yours. I would be afraid to buy it again no matter how much I love it. It appears that all of the lux designers are having quality issues.

I panicked when I saw these pictures because I also have this bag. I bought it in April and I wore it crossbody a few times. I checked it now and so far it looks like new - no chipping, no peeling, no scratches etc. but now I worry that it will happen eventually. I need to use it more to see what happens…

I’m also wondering where they bought their bags and if they talked to Dior about this issue - there have been very authentic looking replicas of them available on line for months now (even on youtube). I must say I don’t see any coating, just black dyed leather. It looks and feels like leather while the phone holder on the picture you received looks to me like plastic (it can be quality of the picture of course). Anyway, I will keep you updated :)

@@Handbagholic Hi again, I was wearing my bag a little more often recently and I’m glad to let you know that after about 20 km (all my routes by foot counted together) of walking with it worn crossbody it still looks like new :) There is no peeling of the leather and hardwear or any visible signs of wear. I hope it stays this way for many years because I really like it and I would like to keep it forever in my collection.

Oh that poor phone case... it's kind of gone from looking like pretty diamond peaks to nipples.... 🙈🤣 That's such a shame, but it's the right decision to make - maybe it will be fixed over time in terms of their materials etc, like you say, and then you could buy again. Plus, you'd be super disappointed if it happened, you'd not listened to your gut and kept it, and then had issues with Dior customer service. Sad for you, though, as it clearly was a new favourite for you.

I know you have thinking about this bag for quite some time and how much you've admired it on your shopping trips. I would have done the same thing by returning it. You'd be more upset if it starting look damaged after it was too late to do anything about it. You can do more research now and see if it worth buying in the future.

Smart decision to return it. I think it is time for us as customers to hold back on buying overpriced "luxury" goods with questionable quality. I bought all the designer bags I wanted and few from Italian artisans I found over Mirta and tbh I don't see any difference. Unless I score Hermes Birkin I won't be buying any designers bags unless they put quality again on the first place. And in such times of world crisis we are experiencing now I would much rather support small artisans than multibillionaire companies.

Kudos for returning it. I mean, these houses are making TONS of money. TONS of money from people who are ok paying exorbitant prices for shoddy quality. Why would they care as long as people keep buying. Do not get it again until you know if this has been addressed. You would be buying a problem. I have mostly authentic bags, but I have a fake Dior Book Tote and a fake company sent me a fake Lady D Joy in the diamond motif and it's a couple months old and doesn't have this issue. Are we stupid for buying authentic? I was planning on never buying another fake, but now I'm second guessing. Are WE the fools here?

So disappointing. You were fully justified to return it. Unless customers send these back and refuse to buy suboptimal goods, the brands have no rationale to do better. We need to demand higher quality and withhold our money until they fix these issues.
