My Electric Blue Acara Cichlid Died... This Sucks...

Well guys, this video is a downer... Blue, my four year old Electric Blue Acara cichlid has passed away. He battled some sort of an infection for about three weeks, but just wasn’t able to pull through. I tried all the treatments in the book but never had success. This one sucks, but so it goes. Lots of people would just glaze over something like this, but you all deserve to know what happened. Thank you all for so much incredible support.

Well, condolences. I've been slow-binge watching your channel for about 6 weeks and saw this coming but wasn't in a rush for bad news so I only watched it today Nov. 2. Next video I'll be caught up, I'm glad I didn't reach this one without another to look forward to. Thanks for keeping us updated, I'm learning a lot from you.

My 4yr old Blue Acara died last night and I’m searching for answers as to why too. It was gorgeous with no visible issues, eating and behaving well. I suspect it was rock ingestion as it was digging a big nest. What a bummer, they are great fish!

Sorry for your loss, whatever you described happened the exact same to my Electric blue acara which just passed away today as well.. I tried salt treatment as well as Prazi Gold but she didn't make it..

Sorry for your loss. I am also loosing my acara soon. She has a big tumor and I will probably have to put her down soon. I considered seeing a vet but it was way too expensive and the tumor could come back. It is very sad loosing our fish.

Just went through the same thing for 3 my weeks with a baby Oscar. Took all the same steps and nothing helped. So frustrating. Especially when the tank mate is looking beautiful and it makes no sense.

I have a small one in my quarantine tank right. At first he just spit out pellets and flakes. After running some general cure he seems to be eating the pellets just fine but still spits most flakes. Could have been that he just needed to settle in

Bro this is exactly the same thing that happened to my Electric Blue Acara today. It just died hence why I am searching to find out what the problem could be. He’s was in a 180 Litre tank with Geophagus, Thread Fin Acara, Firemouth Cichlid, Corys, Pitcus catfish, Golden Nugget and everyone else is fine. Nothing new in my tank. He just went dark blue and black and stayed at the bottom of the tank. Didn’t eat either and this only started 5 days ago. I feel your pain!!

that happened to me too, also treated for so many things, finally tested my water ammonia levels were low but high enough to harm , I dont mean it was an spike but it was a constant level of ammonia, low but for so long of a time it took the fish little by little to late to treat it had already damage him

I'm late to this comment thread I know but I can relate. Had 2 electric blue Acara's die randomly out of 3 for no apparent reason. They even had babies that didn't turn out. Tried killverm and other treatments but didn't work. Nothing wrong with their tank mates, Red horse faces, firmouths, Robertsoni and a bristlenose. I'm thinking it's genetical issues.

Noooo not the electric blue acara.... They are my favorite fish after Oscars 😭 sorry for your loss bro... You've done your best I'm sure... Don't punish yourself so hard... Keep your head up because that's where you'll see him "heaven" swimming free waiting for your arrival

My electric blue acara suddenly died today which led me here looking for answers because in all my years of fish keeping ive not known anything like it .. he was a year old and in all respects brimming with vitality, yesterday i noticed him gasping and swimming differently .. this morning he was laying on his side gasping and now hes gone. It is somewhat reassuring that so many other people have had the same thing .. i have a feeling it may be something genetic.. but who knows.. so frustrating.

This is excactly what has happened to me today. Im fairly new to keeping these cichlids but ive lost 2 Electric Blues. The big male past away this morning. Water ok etc etc other fish ok. He was gasping...dont understand. Very upsetting. I thought these were easy to keep but im at a loss.

So sorry. I just lost my baby Oscar the same way. Nothing worked and his tank mate is thriving. I have a el. blue acara too and I am so afraid for anything to happen to her.

Sorry to hear you lost yours. I think the Electric Blues may have some inbreeding issues going on. Hard to say for sure but I have heard a lot of stories similar to this.

Sorry to hear, I literally just lost my Electric Blue Acara and I am so upset right now cause he only started behaving differently about 5days ago. All the other tank mates are perfectly normal. Seems like everyone is experiencing the same thing. He was my Tank Masterpiece

I just bought two new ones, one jumped clean out of the tank and came home it was rock hard on the ground. The other has one cloudy eye..I can't win with this breed everytime I buy them. Water levels are perfect so no idea .... 🤷‍♂️

My oscar started with this behavior after I moved him and non of the other fish in the tank behaved like that. I ended up putting SOOOO many air stones and that fixed it the fish just needed an extreme amount of oxygen witch is weird but that sucks

If the fish is otherwise healthy then I would take a look at your lighting. If it Is too intense I've had lots of fish do nothing but hide. Did you just get the fish?

Ah that is likely the reason. I would give him a few days to get used to his new surroundings. Freshly added fish have a tendency to hide initially. 😊

@@AquariumPlantLab i got one last tuesday he hid and ran from food then died this tuesday bought another one and this one is less shy and eating last like in a pecking order it seems. this is day 4

But it is a oxygen problem I just added an insane amount of bubblers to fix it

That was a good idea. Ill have to keep that in mind. If a fish is ever sick maybe more than one airstone!
