@@trippin9899 The good thing about Polychromos is you can buy them 'open stock' too so you can start with one or two useful colours like greens - I've been shopping around and I've found an online shop that works out for less per pencil than a tin of 12 (I'm in the UK).

if used as color pencils, watercolor pencils are smoother and blend more easily. you should try it in that way

I feel water color pencils are like a gateway to straight up water color. I’m currently still learning how to even operate water color paints, but the pencils help me along the way. If you already know the in’s and out’s of water color, then the pencils might not have the same appeal. But they have really saturated colors compared to their paint counterpart 🤗

Yeah, I went colored pencils - watercolor pencils - watercolor. Used the pencils for a long time, but I was always very good at getting leftover texture where I didn't want it... This vid made me want to dig out my watercolor pencils again though.

I was interested in the idea of watercolours, but as a kid the "watercolour" paints I got to try were these awful chalky ones so it made me kinda doubt my ability. So I didn't want to spend lots on a medium that I might not like. Whereas I do a lot of colouring with pencil crayons. So I got some watercolour pencils and use the "take pigment directly from the tip" method to paint and do any mixing on a plastic lid (don't have a palette yet lol) if I want a colour not quite in the set. And then I also sometimes just use them as regular pencil crayons as they're great for blending. So two products in one. Made sense to me.

i had so much fun with them as a kid, seeing the pigments move around and trying to control them definitely helped me get the hang of watercolor. i'd use them like normal colored pencils, sometimes on top of them, and get a more solid smooth gradient block of color, or i'd just let loose and make swirling rainbow stuff

I do realisem and i can not survive without my watercolorpencils i undrestand why you dont enjoy them your style is on the simpls side you dont need textures or very detaild fins lines(wich is totaly ok and amazing) but for detailed artwork and spesialy realisem they are life savers(sorry for my spelling)

For me watercolor pencils are easier to use than pans because I'm not great at blending the same color twice if I run out of that shade. If I want to go for a more lineless look I can just outline with the pencil respective to the color I put down and dont have to worry about using a teeny weenie brush because the pen (if sharpened ofc) is already at a point) :P I dip my brush in water and use it on the tip of the pencil, that's my prefered way to use them. LOVE your witchs greenery hat most in this illustration, it's so fun! 🤩

The “flesh tones” are usually called that because of the color/tone of muscle and not skin. Flesh can refer to fruit flesh too, I suppose.

Watercolor pencils are useful when ur sketching and using watercolor afterwards, it justs melts in with the watercolor so u wont get graphite pencil marks in ur piece

i think the major appeal of watercolor pencils is that they are more portable than other forms of watercolor, and you can line with them after the work is done, so you dont have to carry any extra lining supplies with you as you go. ive seen them promoted for plein air work mostly, since thats a situation where the weight and limitations of your materials would matter a lot more than they would in the studio

When using watercolor pencils and do the ombre with the pencil first, I recommend using the water on the lighter part first.

Basically its kind of unnecassary even though you'd generally get more details with watercolor pencils if you're not a pro and this is just my opinion, not a fact, but much more relaxing! I think watercolor pencils would be great for practicing. Thank you for these videos they really make my day and I love rewatching them.💖

I love the dipping the pencil in water technique to make line art! It just makes the colors pop! And for my works I like to use pencils mixed with other mediums more them by themselves, like to add texture to watercolors or colored lineart!

I think the biggest appeal of watercolor pencils is the fact that you have a lot more control over where you put your color. It's a nice stepping stone for people who have been only drawing and coloring in pencils for most of their artistic years.

What I personally like about watercolour pencils is how you can start colouring a picture on a trip without making a huge mess. Also it's a fun way of sketching watercolour pictures! 💕

This was so nice to see you go over the techniques and experience them. I've had a similar faber castell water color box for MANY years, which I thought were regular pencils when I bought them. After discovering it recently, I decided to try out actually using them as watercolour pencils, but they are indeed quite a challenge

I love to use watercolor pencil to get that soft lineart effect on top of the watercolor painting. I just use normal watercolors without lineart and do the lineart with the coloured pencil in the end. Also, i love painting with pencils and watercolor pencils are usually more pigmented

I think that watercolor pencils are best used in tandem with regular watercolor. Like lay down big washes with a brush which is much faster and then work details in with the watercolor pencil point. Soften and wet as needed. I also think it's nice if you want a mix of soft tone and line work in the exact same shade. The other issue is that I don't really see people sketch with the watercolor pencils like the color on top of an image that's already planned and so there isn't a lot of gesture left for the pencil. Which is, in my opinion, the point of pencils.

I love watching your vids, they give me a chance to just chill and learn something new! I have had my watercolour pencils for over 15 years, they still work but I’m not a great user of them....preferring actual watercolours instead. I can see their uses in a painting but using them as the only watercolour medium....not so sure. Great piece of art, and love the idea of using the splatter technique.....but with dark red 😜

I use mine along with watercolor mostly as an outline that blends into the rest, I was drawing a peach and used them on the edges where it’s very red and on the pit.

I've always wanted to get watercolor pencils since I struggle with shading with actual water color and any other medium but pencils, colored pencils and ive used them before while at school and I've always gotten good grades on the artwork. I personally just use water color pencils for sketching the piece and then use water colors from the pan for the rest. I occasionally use the pencils for details or small areas but not the whole piece.

I used to have a style similar to yours and they way I'd use watercolor pencils was to use both normal watercolors and the pencils. I would use the normal watercolors to do the flat pieces and then use the pencils to shade or add background details, It didn't always look right but I liked the way it added that bit of texture in the shadows

i often use them on top of copics and actually use a tombow blender to apply them since i usually draw at work and it's not messy. i'll also just make a swatch area on a scrap piece of paper and just pick up the color from there to only use a little bit

Faber Castle tend to be a very nice mark for art supplies I have the 12 watercolor set and it's very pigmented and also not chalky at all! I recommend them!

Tbh i think watercolor pencils as an auxiliary supply to your normal water color style would be awesome. Like go in knowing your only going to use them as a finishing tool and not a coloring one then you could use a lot of those cool lining effects without the hassle of working in all the textures you dont want from the coloring.

I think you should use watercolor pencils as a support for your amazing watercolor illustrations. Using them for line art or little details of color could rise it to another level.
