Great system. I can tell you’ve put a lot of thought into you’re set up. I’m in the market for a fermenter as well. What made decide on that particular model, over say the unitank or even going with Spike?

Nice set up! Will be upgrading my to something similar hopefully soonish! Just wondering how much of a temperature drop you see across the duration of the mash while using the recirculation? Was thinking of insulating the hoses or using a HERMS system. Cheers!

Looks like a lot of thought went into your equipment. I wonder what your mash efficiency is and how it compared to your biab efficiency?

Thanks for your video..... But how easy is to control the temperature in your mash tun....I think you can’t heat the mash tun directly (or can you?). Or is the insulated wall so good that it keeps your temperature constant during your Mash.... BTW I do have a jaded too..... it is super fast cooling down up to 5-10 F above your faucet T.... again thanks for showing your set up.....it is super nice and look thoroughly designed...cheers....

since you have a whirlpool arm, a side pickup instead of the center pickup could remove the need for false bottom. It did in my boiler.

First of all really enjoying the videos, second I’m still new to brewing 18 months and starting to consider a two or three vessel setup. I have a 20 litre brewtech at the moment that I use for BIAB. I have a question about the mash tun is it possible to do a step mash? Any advice appreciated.
@MasteringHomebrew

sorry for the late reply! i don't belive step mash is possible in the mash tun. the heating pad is not strong enough to raise the temp of the mash in this tun.

Really innovative setup! Does that kettle false bottom work with pellet hops? Also how much dead space so you find you have with it? Thanks
@MasteringHomebrew
@MasteringHomebrew 4 жыл бұрын
Luke Howles works ok with pellet hops. Some fine hop bits do make it in the fermenter when not using bags but over all it works well. The dead space is very little. Max one liter or so. My only issue with it is the diameter of the elbow and special attachment Ss brewtech uses to attach to the ball valve on the inside. Ill be replacing them with something a bit larger because the small diameter restricts the flow a good bit. Other than that it works really well for me.

I just picked up the 20 gallon mash tun to replace my 10 gallon cooler. Where did you get the stand ? Thanks for the video.

Great video as always, and beautiful kettle! You've mentioned before on your Instagram that you move a lot because of your significant other's job. Why haven't you consolidated to a BIAB setup with less parts?

Marc Lind thank you! Well the honest answer is i didnt want to go back to brew in a bag. Also, all of my equipment was still pretty brand new when we found out we would be moving. I didnt want to go potentially 2 years without my new gear i spent so much on and just put it in storage for a couple of years. Its is a big pain in the butt to move the brewery around but its made easier with the ships that go port to port here. Luckily we live seaside almost everywhere we have moved so we have been able to box our stuff up and put it on a pallet and the shipping company delivers it. My brew stuff only takes about half a pallet up. We typically use 2 pallets for all of our belongings. It costs about $200 per pallet. If we ever move inland this may certainly change!

Why do you transition between the vorlauf attachment and the recirculation manifold at the beginning of mashing (ie setting the grain bed)? Is the recirculation manifold less effective at setting the grain bed?
@MasteringHomebrew
@MasteringHomebrew 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes if you dont set the grain bed first the resirc manifold will sink into the grain bed. It also helps prevent clogging the manifold by getting all the big chunks that passed through the false bottom back on top. The manifolds holes are pretty small

The mashtun is pretty :-). I am still not comfortable having my wort go through a pump. I just have a block against that. Great video :-)

@@aneriz not that it makes sense - I just don’t like my beer going through something that I can’t confirm it is clean by looking ... my buddies have used them for years - it just isn’t for me.

Homebrew Master: I noticed you have a recirc hole in your Tun. The old style didn't come with that. Did you drill it out yourself?
@MasteringHomebrew
@MasteringHomebrew 2 жыл бұрын
I did! They actually sell / sold a kit to add the port for awhile there during the transition to the updated version. It’s actually two different sized diameter holes in the same spot. The hole diameter on the inside is smaller than the hole diameter on the outside of the tun. It was actually a pain in the butt for me because I had to buy all the pieces from three different brew shops around europe to make it happen. In the end it all worked out.

Hi. Excuse me, I had a question: I want to produce 70% alcohol for disinfection by combining sugar and baking yeast and distilled water. What should be the temperature of the fermentation liquid in the barrel during the fermentation stage? What should be the ambient temperature? I am a member of your channel and I watch your clips. Thank you very much and good luck.🙏🙏🌷💙💜❤👍

You did a great job with the video. However, the brewing term "wort" is pronounced like the word "dirt" with a "w" instead of a "d." It is derived from the Old English word "wyrt." Also, the term "trub" is pronounced "troob." The brewing lexicon is how we share information.
