I really don’t worry about saddle weight on my bike despite being a weight weenie in every other respect, it’s just too important to find the saddle that’s the most comfortable and any other consideration is secondary - my road bike saddle weighs an absolute ton but just makes a real difference in comfort on longer rides and “comfortable is fast”, you can’t go fast and hard if you’re distracted and in discomfort 👍

Full finger gloves are key to my riding. I ride mixed gravel road and trail. In 25 years of serious adult riding full finger gloves are up there with disc brakes as best of bicycle quality pursuit. Years of digging through motor cross gloves looking for sets with less padding and softer protection. Finally in 2015 good basic full finger protection became mainstream.

Totally agree on the full finger gloves… weird cause I don’t feel the same with regular gloves… glad to know I’m not the only one… 🍻

The saddle bag setup was interesting. I should invest in that dart 🎯 plug 🔌 for my tubeless setup. I haven’t had a puncture on tubeless yet but that seems like a better solution than taking the tire off to install a new tube.

Consider trying the bontrager aeolus saddle, only saddle I have found that worked for me other than tri type saddles. Big weight saving over the old ISM I was running

My saddlebag carry is very similar to yours except that I also take a small tube of sealant - if you’ve had a big flat in tyre then you’ll have lost a lot of sealant so I always take spare to put in via valve before reinflating 👍

I don't bother carrying a spare tube since going tubeless over 2 years ago, I carry the Stans Dart repair system now I find it better than the Dyna plug system. I also carry a small 40ml bottle of sealant to top up after a flat if required. Great vid again as usual.

I have that same saddle on my gravel bike - the Novus Boost Grave Saddle - brown with Ti rails. its super comfy.

Been using the H10 for a few years now. The belt button do come off after a year or so but you can probably get a cheap compatible one.

100% with you on the polar HRM, I use the same one after having loads of problems with the wahoo tickr previously - the polar has been absolutely foolproof. One tip though, I’m pretty sure you don’t have to completely remove the pod, just “break the loop” by uncoupling one of the rivets (so it’s still attached and you don’t lose it) - I could be wrong but it doesn’t seem to pair when in that state so I *think* it’s offline in that state

The guy in an authorized Polar store here in my country told me exactly this tip, so you're right, just undo the one rivet and it's off.

On the Polar H10 you actually dont have to disconnect both pins. It stops draining the battery if one pin is disconnected. So just take ofF one when you dont want to use it. Worked for me for the past Year

Its because you break the circuit when you take either of the ends off. It will work in any other chest based HR strap as well.

16:00 i do the same to disconnect my garmin HRM, except I just unclip 1 side and spin it around 180.

I had to upgrade to the bolt V2 because my old bolt had water damage (luckily it was still on warranty). And yes it's true what you say, it's slower, takes longer to connect to your phone and it takes to longer to find gps signals. On the other hand I really like the updated map/routing and the more aesthetic look. Actually crazy that the V2 is also 50 euro's more expensive...

I thought I'd never need my tube after nearly 3 years of riding tubeless. But the day eventually came and I was glad to be carrying it. I was tryig IRC tyres at the time and a small section unseated from the rim (tyres and rims both tubeless, wasn't a botched setup). Tube was the only choice.

I was disappointed when my first Wahoo HRM corroded right out where the pod clips on. I’d done only about 12,000km at that point and it just fell off mid ride. I replaced it but going to be careful with cleaning to remove sweat after rides but it’s a design fault you shouldn’t have to worry about

Probably too much of a rabbit hole topic but would be interesting to understand the tradeoff between the watts saved in aero vs the increased energy expenditure from heat management with aero helmets

God, almost impossible to calculate. Keep in mind there are other downsides to wearing an aero helmet related to the heat factor, like increased sweat on the head which can then drip down into your eyes and be annoying. I think of it more in terms of risk. If it's cold, run the aero lid always. If it's hot, run the vented lid. But a race in moderate conditions where it's not clear which is best, what's riskier? Choose the aero lid. At best you save a couple of watts if you happen to be going off the front solo or pulling long turns on the front. At worst you've got sweat all in your eyes and you've got significantly increased RPE from your head overheating which could cost you 5, 10 watts easily up a climb. Choose the vented lid. At worst, you lose a couple of watts vs the aero lid, does it really matter? And you don't have to worry about the overheating effect. You can't lose here. If it's moderate conditions and I can't clearly chose vented or aero, I choose the least risky option (vented lid).

Magicshine is really good. I use one with 1500 lumens and it gives me good light much more than 100 m foreward.

It's a pity that the Selle Italia Novus has been discontinued, the new mode is very different. I use the same one and it's great.

Luckily I bought two. I agree, I tried the Novus Boost Evo which I think is the new version and it didn't agree with me at all. It's annoying that it has the same name, it's a totally different shape

@@nerocoaching I bought 2 as well 😄. I believe that the reason it has been discontinued is the fragility of the nose. I had 2 models (the cheaper TM version) where the padding got detached at the front. The titanium rails version seems much better built. Pity the rails of the carbon one did not fit my clamp.

You're not wrong in the choice of the glasses lens color. Most people don't realize how much difference the lens color effects sight. You can also consider glasses with transition capabilities, as they adjust to different lighting conditions, but at a higher price though. Colored polarized or standard lenses, the colors effect the amount of ambient light on your eyes, as well as effecting the perspective of the environment. Find what you like, and stick with it as long as they continue to make it.

Hey Jesse, thinking of getting some assiomas for training and racing, would you recommend getting the duos, or the duo-shi spindles and attaching the pedal bodies?

If you are a use to the Shimano SPD-SL and/or bigger rider the duo-shi, wider Q factor and bigger platform. If you are use Look Keo and/or smaller rider the duos. It is not a big difference between SPD-SL and Keo, they just clip in differently, you will quickly adapt (I went SPD-SL to Keo without issue) but if you don't need to, why do it. Big difference is Q factor ie stance width, GP Lama hates it, Peak Torque loves it.

@@OliverCrowhurst Moving to Look cleats isn't a big deal, I'd just get the regular Assiomas and move cleats. I don't have an answer on whether the Q factor increase from the Shimano version will be an issue or now, I'd suggest just avoid worrying about it by moving to Look cleats and getting the regular version

headdphones i would recommend the aeropex. you get more wind noise but traffic awreness is really good.

Nice video. MIPS is a scam, though. Completely unnecessary... who da fuq asked for this, other than helmet makers wanting to increase prices. Plus it makes helmets BIGGER giving you that much desired mushroom head look.
