Even me as ex British army 2nd Battalion Mercian regiment I completed two tours of Afghanistan but even on our 12 hour patrols were mostly uneventful thankfully. Actually going too war can lead too days even weeks of boredom with nothing happening, especially as we’d just call in a air strike to take out the enemy that were dug in. These guys had no air support, each inch was one by ground battle.

The combat version of Gonzo Journalism. Brother, you are not only one hell of an asset on the battlefield, but a cultural treasure. Please keep making videos, hell make full length movies. I could watch your content for hours upon hours. This is important, and your videos are the epitome of what is fantastic about the democratization of journalism, and content creation in the modern age.

I've got a question as someone who is leaving for MCRD San Diego in 11 months (not relevant) and someone who has been very interested in the Kurdish revolution and the fight against IS. what is the difference between YPG and the YBS. And, I've been looking into combat camera and want to do combat journalism in my near future but don't know where to start. how did you get into in a way being a combat documentarian. Keep up this amazing work and cant way to see more from you.

The YPG are the main fighting force/military formation of Syrian Kurds, in Rojava etc. YPG translates to People's Protection Units. (The YPG are mostly male, and their sister organisation is the YPJ, consisting of female fighters). The YPG has been fighting in Syria since the beginning of the civil war, against ISIS, other jihadist groups, as well as later on Turkey and Turkish backed groups after Turkey invaded. They are a large force, and lead the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF); the official umbrella fighting forces of the Autonomous Administration of North East Syria (AANES), commonly known as Rojava. The SDF also includes many other militias allied with the YPG and Kurds, like the Syrian Kurds' Arab allies etc. The YBS (Sinjar Resistance Units) on the other hand is a very small militia group organised along the same lines as the YPG, but composed of Yazidis, and based in Iraq, near Sengal where the Yazidi heartland is. It was largely raised and trained by the PKK after they and the YPG rescued many Yazidis from ISIS genocide on Mt Sinjar in 2014.

life straw, essential vitamins, actual good camo for where you plan to fight (do your research this can save your life or turn you and your team into a free kill), heat displacement blanket/tarp, tourniquets, good sock and good boots for a start and if you can get any form of thermal or night vision it helps tons for planning and spotting enemies. hope this helps
