Here is a video of My Experience At The CMP South Store. I went on Saturday December 5th, 2020. I had a great time. I will be making another video showing the rifles that I purchased.

I was there on Saturday Dec 5 at opening too! I got there at 7:30. I was thrilled to get the one 1898 Krag they had on that rack in the back next to the drill rifles, and a 1903A3 and an M1917 - everything I hoped for! I thought it would be bigger but I was not dissapointed. You are very right about how great the staff was. The staff came out before opening and handed out paperwork to fill out ahead of time along with gloves - which saved time checking out. I will go back!

North Store was 3 hrs for me. I went in July, and up there they did make appointments, at least in July. I brought my little boy, and they said that kids weren't allowed. Not sure if it was because of COVID or just their policy, but they let me little dude sit at a table inside. I got a service grade Winchester. She's a peach, though she had a barrel indexing and op rod issue. Their customer service was GREAT though. Outside the North Store was an assortment of tanks and helicopters, so I got my Stuart and Sherman fix for the day.

Have never been to the South store looking to make the trip in the future thanks for the advice and knowing what to expect upon arrival. Enjoyed the video and hope that your family enjoyed the trip.

ive never heard of this store in 35 years of having my license. course ive ordered my rifle like these online. glad you got what you wanted. look forward to seeing them. i have carbines garands and 03a3s. great video. you got jacklyn and the kids to go with you. thats amazing. my wife would have never gone on this long trek trust me!!

It is awesome! I had a blast. Like I mentioned we made it into a family trip. We stayed in 3 different hotels. We went to the Space Museum in Huntsville. We hit up a bunch of antique stores. Went and saw a big drive through Christmas lights display. We love going on trips. We have another one coming up in late February.

Sounds like a great trip.... one I need to make some day. I could have went to the Camp Perry store in 2016, but I had just bought my IH at an auction and was tapped out for firearms at the time.

I went to CMP Taladega on the 13 of March this year and finally got my M1 Garand after many many years of wanting and searching for one. I had tue greatest experiance there the young lady behind the counter was just amazingly nice and helpfull. And was given a lot of knowledge from one of the fellow customers. I will Definatly be going back again. The CMP is amazing.

I was on the fence about ordering a Garand through the mail and had no idea that I could actually go to the store, that option is a game changer. I appreciate you posting this video with this information. I hope I can get one of these gems in my possession in the NEAR future.

NS is 38 miles for me. NS can be very good, but the NS has always been an afterthought by the CMP people, so the best stuff and quantity is at the SS. Too bad they don't care about the NS.

@@JonBoyMilitaria I think I just explained, but to say it again, the CMP is run by people in the south and that's it. the whole show is run at the south facilities and then someone, once-in-awhile will load up the truck (actually don't know who or how), with not enough stuff to last and make the long day or more trip to Ohio. Maybe, if the board picked someone to pay about $500,000 (how is that justified) to run the show from the North it might be different

I'm also 9 hours from the south store. 9 hours from the north store as well. I really want to go but have to save up some funds first. Would be interested in the test of your trip, like what family activities you did while down there. Looking forward to seeing the rifles you bought.

I live in North Mississippi. We are already familiar with Alabama because we go every year to the beach during the summer. This trip we went to the Space Museum in Huntsville. We went to a drive through Christmas lights show in Oxford as well. There is a place called Rickwood Caverns near Warrior Alabama that has underground caves you can tour and it has a campground, hiking trial, gift shop, swimming area, etc. We went to lot of Antique stores also.

cool. always wanted to do the cmp thing. i wouldve taken the lowest serial number regardless of the stock. the stock can always be replaced.

Yeah. I halfway thought about it but then I figured another stock would be probably be over a hundred dollars, so I just went with the ones I got.

Sounded like a great experience. I live out here in the west coast, so it would be impossible to visit the store. I was going to give them a typed up piece of paper that indicated my wants if possible, but you say a "sticky note." What's the reason for that. Anyways, a great video. Thank you.

Thanks for watching. Really whenever people get all their paperwork together to mail the CMP they may have hopes of getting a rifle with specific characteristics. Basically like you said "wants" . For example: someone may hope to get a rifle with. WW2 receiver or Ww2 barrel. Someone may want an all matching Walnut stock or an M1 with lock bar sites, etc.... CMP from what I have always heard has been pretty good about honoring the wishes of the note a lot of times. But at the same time they aren't going to spend a lot of tim going through 100 rifles. They will grab the first one tht may have the all matching stock or Ww2 receiver, or Ww2 barrel or lock bar sites. You won't really get lucky to receive one that is all Ww2 period correct. Those usually go to auction alot of times.

@@JonBoyMilitaria Thanks JonBoy, I'm more concerned about asking for an M1 that has a clean receiver with little to no pits on the top and bottom of the receiver, and a decent barrel. I have another M1 stock in perfect condition with all the markings stamped in. I went through CMP for my first Garand back in 1987. It was perfect! It only cost $168.00. But like an idiot, I gave it to my irresponsible father and it was stolen. Bummer!

Cool jonboy made my first trip to the cmp in 2005 bought a nice garand under 400 $ i lived in ny at the time so the trip to the north port clinton cmp was only 4 hr. Now that i live in tx might make the trip to the south cmp your a blessing to the hobby of militaria and gun collecting god bless you and your family !!

thanks for making this video! I am a beginner collector who would like to get involved with the cmp. I was going to take a firearm safety class to fulfill the marksmanship eligibility portion, but was wondering if obtaining a c&r license was a better route. Do you know if getting a c&r license requires an in person session? If not i’m going to fill out my c&r application for Illinois for this requirement. Thank you!

C and R doesn't require an in person session. I didn't have to do anything. I'm going to make a video in the next couple days about How to apply for C and R.

what is the price ranges for the M1 Garands, the m1917's and the 1903a3's?

Garands start at $650. M1917s were $600 and 1903a3's were $650.

100 Garands on a rack for sale?! Sounds like heaven to me. I recently bought my first Garand from a local gun store. I was considering the CMP website, but I couldn't bring myself to jumping through all those hoops and the overall uncertainty of what you'll receive. I like to know what I'm buying. However, I'd love to go to one of the stores before I die. That way I can hold the rifle in my hands and inspect it in person. Plus a good price! Also, did you say that a hunting license is valid proof of firearms experience for them?

Hunting license does not count unless live fire was conducted to receive it.

Yes, hunting license does qualify. Honestly it is very easy to meet the requirements.

@@JonBoyMilitaria "Completion of a Hunter Safety Course that included live fire training." directly from the CMP website I know because my hunter safety did not count and I had to fill out a live fire range form.

@@Belowtheprairie I believe you might be confusing it with the proof of taking the hunters safety course with live fire (which my course didn't have). You can buy a hunting license at walmart.

can you choose a rifle there then have it shipped to your home free since that avoids tax?

I'm honestly not 100% sure. I didn't mind paying the tax. Even if saving tax is an option, I would rather pay it and take the rifle with me. I wouldn't want something to happen during shipment/mail.

Not sure. I have seen a few pictures of rifles received broken/damaged. CMP is good about making things right. I personally would just want the rifle in my possession after I purchase it.

Yes they had ammo at that time. Not sure if they still do or not.

Need to join the CMP forums go to the south store part. There is a guy PH68 that does a daily listing of what is there at opening and again at closing. He was probably one of the other customers that helped you. He has helped me and my grandson find some real treasures.
