Hi . I’m a 74 year old woman suffering from anxiety most of my adult life. I’m in the process of changing from setraline to citalopram. 🙏. It’s been just two weeks on it but hopefully I’ll feel better soon. Thank you for your video & 🙏 you are still improving. ❤️

Hi Dorothy, want to change from setraline to citalopram, if you don't mind sharing did citalopram work for you?
@Merlmabase3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jackie, thanks so much for taking the time to share. I can very much relate to having "manageable" anxiety and depression for as long as I can remember, putting together my own little tool kit for getting by. But some experiences in the past year have sent me tumbling and feeling like I'm just not equipped to get my footing back. Finally spoke to my GP and this is my first day on citalopram. No expectations on how this is going to turn out. But I'm feeling the brain fog and disconnection in a major way, and hearing someone relate their experience going through that stage and finding their way out of the woods is a big comfort.

Hi Riley! You’re so welcome :) thank you for taking the time to comment and share your experience. You are definitely not alone in feeling overwhelmed right now. Life is NOT easy!! And it’s been extra hard on most people this last year especially. I love that you talked to your GP and are open to medication! That was one of the hardest steps for me... I really hope this medication works for you after several weeks! If not, there’s gotta be someeeething for you! You’ve got this :) Thanks again for sharing!

I've been on citalopram for about 8 months. Your video completely was like the same experience I had to the tee. Im so happy to have found someone like you and to know that I'm not alone is priceless. I take only 10mg each day but I'm doing good and I'm happy just about every day. I do experience some strange dreams now and then but I don't know if it's related to the medication. Bobby

i can't tell you how much I appreciate this video. I am a week into citalopram, and I have no emotions at all right now. Right now I feel like I would rather be struggling than feeling nothing. It's hugely helpful to me to hear that there's a possibility this side effect will wear off; I kind of thought this was just what the drug feels like. I know everyone is different, but this has given me hope. I really appreciate you for opening up and helping others. I'm so glad you're feeling well.

Thank you for this comment Sarah! I am in the exact same boat right now. 7 days in and the spaced out/extreme brain fog feeling was the worst yet today which in turn spiked my anxiety after I finally had a decent day yesterday. How did it go for you after the first week?

Hi Sarah, how did things turn out? I’m at the end of week 2 on 10mg, and feel totally disconnected. I’m not giving up, but just tired of feeling nothing, can’t be bothered to get up let alone do anything 😢. Just bored and emotionless. I am finding solace in the fact jacqueline went through that, and started to see big benefits 😊

I just got on 20 mg after a week of taking 10mg. The only side effects I’ve had is yawning like crazy, tiredness and extreme focus when I am driving (update: these side effects went away after a month). I personally love the “numbing” effect of this med. My anxiety is mostly to do with my racing mind/spiraling thoughts. I never get any peace bc the thoughts in my mind are so intrusive and constantly going to the worst possible scenarios no matter what I am thinking of and that in itself has driven me to the brink of insanity. I am fed up with my own brain lol. This medication really suppresses that for me and I absolutely love it. After being SO DAMN susceptible to my constantly changing emotions caused by my thoughts and the extreme ups and downs, am level headed and chill. I hope it continues!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, big help. I've had Anxiety for years and I was never 100% if that's what it really was or if I was just a 'worrier'. It got to a point when it was destroying my life and preventing me from career progression, relationships and socialising so enough was enough. I'm on day 3 of Citalopram 20mg and not been too bad so far in terms of side effects. Jaw clenching I noticed within few hours on day one, slightly restless sleep and a little more anxious than normal I guess today but I had been warned haha. Can't wait for 6-8 weeks, 1st time I've felt excited in a loooong time and forgot what my normal self was like! Thanks so much and be strong to anyone else dealing with this! X

SSRI's saved me! I strated taking ssri 25 days ago, I've struggled with really severe anxiety/panic attacks/depression/ocd and I tried everything (sport-diet-meditation) it helped at the beginning then it became worse, I started taking meds and it feels like a miracle! I love how I can now feel steady,calm and happy again ! I really didn't know if I am gonna feel alive again! Mine is paxil (paroxetine) 20mg, I will never regret it !
@Pat76293 жыл бұрын
This was really helpful. I have tried to start this medication at least 5 times and always end up quitting day 2-5 because I feel absolutely horrible after taking it. Each attempt I always say "never again", then when I go back to my old self I feel horrible too, so it's like an endless back and forth with failed attempts. It's a shame they can't perfect these medications so that you don't feel worse for weeks when starting them. Most people when they make the decision to go on medication in the first place are already feeling horrible and on the brink, so to then take a medication that makes them feel worse for many weeks is unfathomable. Someone should come up with a daily coaching/support group for weeks 1-4 of starting this medication so we can motivate each other to keep going.
@thejackieevans3 жыл бұрын
I am sooo glad it was helpful!! I bet starting this that many times was SO HARD! It really is a shame that is has to be such a challenge... especially because people are usually suffering enough before starting the medicine. I think that’s an AMAZING idea to start a coaching/support group. Because it’s incredibly helpful for me to just know that I am not alone with my struggles. And I love getting advice and hearing about other people’s stories. It reminds me how freaking strong we all are. If you end up starting a group, pleaaaase let me know bc I’d love to be part of it!! Best wishes to you! I hope you are doing well ❤️ thank you so much for sharing your perspective.

Girl I feel you. I felt the exact same way 5 months after having my daughter. I was terrified... it didn’t make sense to me at all. I never have been that sad in my entire life, I didn’t think it was possible. I have been on Wellbutrin xl 150mg for almost a year now and I feel great other than the side effects which I kinda feel like I’m not as aware of my surroundings and I kinda feel a bit “floaty” and off balance. This medication saved my life! I feel like I’m ready to get off of my medication now but I’m terrified to go back to the way I felt before. I remember praying that something would just give me a breath of fresh air again and I guess we don’t realize how horrifying it is until we’re in deep. I hope I can taper off and feel better again on my own. I did have an under active thyroid during my pregnancy and this was my third pregnancy. I’m wondering if the medication or my hormones being off balance with my under active thyroid made this occur or my pregnancy. I remember feeling a little blue after my last two babies but that went away fast. I’m happy we’re still here to tell our stories and let others know that there is hope because I know I was in dire need of something!

Hi, thank you so much for this video, it has been a huge reassurance for me today! I fought medication for years, trying everything else under the sun to help my anxiety/depression (yoga, diet, meditation, therapy ect)- but I ultimately always ended up down the same dark hole. I was finally brave enough to call my doctor, and I'm currently 4 days into taking 10mg citalopram. I felt optimistic at first that I was taking the right step- but I'm currently terrified of the side effects I'm experiencing! I have some physical side effects shaky, nausea, headaches, waking up at 4am. But what worries me the most is that , although my anxiety seems to have diminished, it has been replaced by a completely numbing brain fog. Like you said- I couldn't cry even if I tried! I've always been a very sensitive/emotional person, so this scares me. I'm an artist so also rely on my emotions, creativity and empathy to do my job. My libido also completely disappeared overnight, its like I'm not just mentally checked out but physically checked out too. I really don't feel like myself, and I think I'd rather continue trying with therapy ect then be stuck like this. I know you mentioned your side effects wore off after a while- but did you ever fully regain your feeling of self? Your ability to cry? Feel heightened emotion? I didn't take my tablet last night because I was so sacred of this feeling not going away, and if I carried on much longer, having withdrawal when I did decide to stop. But you video has given me some hope that this is may only be temporarily and will pass. Warm wishes.
@thejackieevans3 жыл бұрын
Oh man I definitely feel what you are going through. I am so sorry - no one should have to deal with this!! But it’s AMAZING that you are trying it. That takes a LOT of courage. I bet it’s terrifying in general but ESPECIALLY being an artist and relying on your emotions and creativity. I definitely felt empty of ideas and had zero creative juices left for a while. But I think it was about after 4 weeks I got my creativity and emotions back (some of them anyway) and after 6 weeks I was basically my whole self again. I actually just increased my meds from 20 to 40 mg a couple months ago and increasing was SOOOOO much easier than starting the meds for the first time. And today I feel SO myself. I’m actually feeling even MORE creative than I did a few years ago (because I’m not totally drained by anxiety and depression most days). It sucks. Honestly. Those first few weeks were AWFULLLLLL. But I am really glad I stuck it out. It’s not for everyone, so you’ve just gotta see if this is right for you. And it sounds like you are set up with so many amazing tools to help with your self awareness on deciding if these meds are right for you. I’m wishing you all the luck and all the love!! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask away ❤️ you’ve got this!!!

Oh I am so sorry! Panic attacks are NOT fun. I still have them every once in a while but they aren’t nearly as scary as they used to be. I’d definitely have an open talk with your doctor. It took me several weeks to feel better but it’s different for everyone. I know this isn’t accessible to everyone, but therapy is REALLY helping me so much. I couldn’t have made it to therapy without medication so the combination of those is good for me. But again everyone is different. I’m sorry if that wasn’t very helpful! But I hope you find what works best for soon! Best of luck to you!!

Hello Jacque I was recently given Celexa for my symptoms, but the strongest effect or side-effect I've felt has been the brain fog you mentioned. It's extremely uncomfortable. Prior to this, my doctors have given me a lot of other anti-anxiety drugs. None of them help. None of them improve my mood. I've only been on Celexa for a week, but I thought I'd have felt better by now. I'm frightened. Nothing is helping. Nothing. What on earth should I do?
@thejackieevans3 жыл бұрын
I’m so sorry you’ve had to deal with all that!! Just The brain fog is so frustrating. Mine finally went away after about 4-6 weeks on Citalopram though. I’m still on it right now (but increased it to 40mg) and am doing SO much better. I know the first few weeks of taking the medicine is AWFUL! Do you think it’s possible for you to keep taking it for 4-6 weeks to see how you feel? If it’s really too miserable for that I’d definitely check back in with your doctor. I’m sure it is stressful and scary right now, but something will work for you. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. You’ve got this!!! You’re so much stronger than your anxiety, I promise!

@@thejackieevans hi Jacqueline, thank you for checking on me! I’m currently taking 20mg propranolol daily and 30mg of citalopram and the nausea is gone I feel much better😌I was having 5 panic attacks a day, many thoughts flying around my head all at once, I always had a critical voice in my head and jumped at the smallest things. I was terrified of everyone, my whole body would go weak, my heart would almost beat so fast I felt like it might explode and I’d shake uncontrollably and ended up agoraphobic.. I overthought everything, worried more than I should and neglected myself by not showering much, not eating much and much more.. I spent over a year in my bed not feeling like I could function and then once I started the propranolol (beta blocker) and the side affects wore off, every single one of those problems went away! After 20 years of suffering. I now laugh and smile and go out happily, I eat, sleep well and shower, clean and function a lot more. The moment that all my anxiety left me, and I realised.. well I sobbed for 3 hours straight with happiness. What worries me is I’ve been through ultimate hell in my life and I’ve been begging all kinds of doctors to listen to me, take me seriously and help me.. yet they have only now helped me because I didn’t ask, I demanded it. You see.. when I was 5 years old I found my mum passed away.. she ended her life due to her mental health and I made sure to remind the doctors that I too have a child and do NOT want her growing up without her mum and they HAD to help me. I put my foot down and demanded it and I’m so freaking glad! I watched videos on KZfaq about propranolol before taking it and I’m glad i did. Many people said it pays off to keep going and the side affects will wear off. Im so glad I listened. I feel more free than I ever have. Absolute miracle medication to say the least!💖
