Tokyo actually does have a whole THREE XD (so far that I know of anyways) gyms that have drop in options, allows foreigners and tattoos, and most importantly, encourage HEAVY lifting! The first one is ONI Gym in Arakawa, it's a powerlifting-centric gym with IPF approved, competition grade equipment. Second is Hide Yamagishi's Powerhouse Gym near Shinjuku station. It's geared more towards bodybuilding but does have a proper squat rack, bench press and allows deadlifting. Third is Animal Hamaguchi Training Gym in Asakusa! This one has so much personality but be warned, it's suuuuper old school! Which in my opinion only adds to it's charm!

Man, this sounds criminal. I really have to appreciate what I have around here more.
@davissawali3321Ай бұрын
I have actually been to ONI Gym. Can confirm as a powerlifter that the equipment is top notch. Staff was super nice and had a great time. The space is a bit cramped, but not really much to complain about other than that!
@goodswimmerАй бұрын
@davissawali3321 oh yes, definitely cramped 🤣 Powehouse too but Animal is probably the most cramped. Literally can't enter or exit the toilet if someone is doing pullups lmao!

So I have an Anytime Fitness membership here in America, and whenever I go to Tokyo I can use it there. It's at 6:03, the rack you used to bench with. You just adjust the bar holders up to your shoulder level and move the bench out of the way, leaving/adjusting the spotting racks at the bottom.

I’m glad you found it, not the next step is cancelling your membership. It’s honestly ridiculously hard to cancel memberships here, is it in Japan?
@kotokotoko_2 ай бұрын
A person wrote in their blog that it takes about 10 minutes to cancel membership with Anytime Fitness. It was also mentioned that cancellation cannot be done online.
@GaosenKinetics2 ай бұрын
Not hard in Japan and they can’t screw around like some gyms do in the U.S. I also paid mine in cash, and they had no card info, so wouldn’t have been possible to give me a runaround anyway.

From what I heard from Trash Taste, it's the opposite, annoying to apply by SUPER easy to cancel.

If you want protein from food, then salad chicken (サラダチキン), which is steamed chicken and doesn't include vegetable, is probably the best. It tastes alright and it's in everywhere like convini. But I recommend buying protein from foreign site cos of the language issue.

Want a workout? Jog to the pier and move the fish around! I remember reading, decades ago, of a Westerner writing about touring Japan on a cheap budget. He would often jog early in the morning to the piers and help to unload fish from the boats and take them to their various areas. Got paid cash and fed the freshest sashimi.

Those protein sachets were sooo weird. I hated it! There were some liquid ones in some of the konbinis though. It looks like they did have a squat rack in your gym, where you were doing bench. You just move the hooks up, it's a pretty standard power-rack. I brought my Anytime Fitness tag to Japan, not really because I thought I'd be training a lot, I was just curious if it'd work at all which it did. It was tiny, had about 6 machines and 6 treadmills, a smith machine and one bench. You had to do pullups by putting the smith machine bar up to the top and hanging off it. It's what I expected to be fair, being in such small locations. I am used to Anytime Fitness gyms having everything you'd need to do powerlifting, here in Aus.
