My experience with unions

This is just my opinion. If you worked union, great. I hate em. Sloth, apathy, and mediocrity, are more valuable then expedience, inventiveness, creativity, and a natural desire to do good work. When I bought my own truck, that gave me total control over what segment of working society I chose to associate with. My life was much more enjoyable when I no longer hauled freight that arrived at or loaded from union shops.

Praise our Lord that Charly didn't get the dreaded bad news yesterday. She was in my thoughts and prayers throughout the day, yesterday and again, when I woke up this morning. Fortunately, I've never worked in a union shop. Grew up on a farm and learned work ethics from my parents. To do what needs to be done to get the job done. Over the years came to understand the negative impact (results) of being able to say "It ain't in my job description!". Thanks for letting us know, in advance, that we might not be sharing morning coffee with you for the next few days. Hope you and Charly have a blessed day. Godspeed on all your upcoming travels. Saturday, I’ll have a video uploaded in the morning. It might include a bit of what I do between now and then. Thank you for your prayers. No more doctors until my next infusion but that is pretty much uneventful. To me, the perfect example of why I don’t like unions are police unions. I’ve encountered many cops in my life that would NOT have a job if it wasn’t for the police unions protecting them from being removed from that job.

Boy am I late to this video. Had to go shopping when my son came to get my wife for their trip tomorrow and since I can't drive, and my wife is having trouble with her eyes and won't drive if she can help it. We are dependent on others help. Good story time video. I never worked union. I spent my 22+ years in the Army and then worked for several "beltway bandits" here in the Wash, DC area. My take is that unions first started they did good work. But now they are a waste of time and money. That is my take. Good for Charly not putting up with the tests anymore. I have come to the same point with some of my Docs. See you when you post the next video.

Yep. I agree. J ions brought about safer working conditions and higher wages, then they turned the way of all entities that gain to much power, money, and influence.

I learned the hard way to loathe hate and despise unions. They wasted a lot of my time and resources before I finally decided to not provide my trucking services to union shops and warehouses.

I think mediocrity sums it up! The opposite of , "the harder you work, the more money you make." or "the more you do to make the company profitable, the more money you make". Happy Day!

In union shops, you’re only as good as the worst employee. Excellence, inventiveness, a desire to improve, are all quashed as a result of supporting the worst and most undeserving of workers.

When the medical professionals don’t know for sure, their tests come out as stable or inconclusive. In other words, the patient needs to keep an eye on their condition to see how it evolves over time. Like we all need another thing to worry about. Stay safe.

My wife thinks this is the last time she’s going to take that test. They make you drink a quart of liquid that has the consistency of lotion, then when you get there, they intravenously put iodine is done crap in your body and she said this time it was very painful. There have been no changes in the last few times she had this done and she’s 70 now. She’s just gonna stop worrying about it.

You're absolutely right BC. An old buddy of mine was in the union at Dayton tire. He often missed work, showed up late or drunk, told me stories about sleeping in the rafters in the back warehouse. He had a relative high up in the union that would cover for him. That's a big problem with our country today, they reward mediocrity. Of course now Dayton tire is located in China, wonder why.

I once woke a union employee up that was sleeping on his fork lift. He was pissed. I told him if he didn’t get me unloaded, I was going to miss my pickup and would have to wait over. Night to get it the next day. He did he didn’t give a shit and if course to retaliate against me for waking him up, he took all day to unload me, which would have taken about 30 minutes at a non u ion shop. I missed my load and had wait at a truck stop the weekend to pick it up on Monday. I lost two days of work because one union guy wouldn’t do his job. My life and Wallet improved significantly the day I bought my own truck and refused all union loads.

A friend of mine said "Companies have the unions they deserve." It's a two way street. Some companies treated their workers so bad because they think the workers need them more than they need the workers. and that was why unions are able to easily get voted in. Then over time, the roles reverse and the companies need the workers more than the workers need them, but they can't get better workers because they are stuck with the union workers. Today, with labor laws, most places do not need unions, but there are still really stupid companies that deserve a union. In the end, it's the good worker that loses 😕

In the old days when companies actually had henchmen and enforcers for steel workers and coal miners, the unions were a necessary organization. Now, the unions are just as evil and corrupt as those companies were. I only know what the answer was for me, and that was to avoid anything union.

Well said Salty. This can’t be pinned down to a simple,one size fits all, formula. As close as I can get to a simple explanation is that we are all chess pieces in a game between private equity investment firms ,played within a governmental framework of smoke and mirrors.

A wood or micarta handle will be better. I’m not a fan of that type of leather handle. It just seemed to complicate things.

@@chopsddy3I’ll use wood most likely. I’ve found synthetics use up my belts faster than wood. I haven’t decided what wood yet. I have some desert Ironwood wood that’s straight grained and uninteresting, but it’s highly durable. I might use that.

Unions are the scum of the earth. The Janus Decision was the best thing to ever happen in the public sector. No more mandatory extortion and taxing people to work a job (e.g. mandatory union dues). I was forced to join a union when I was younger and I hated every second of it (that was decades ago). I would never work another job that was union. They can all rot.

Any group that people try and bully me into joining, is a group I want nothing to do with. Police unions are a perfect example of decent people only being as good as the worst people.

Your fortunate. It spoiled the first ten years of my driving career. I almost got out of trucking. Then I bought a truck and took control if my life.

The UAW retired workers have had to take a few pension cuts. There was a railroad workers union that did the same thing to its pensioners. I think your money is safer in a 401K than in the hands of unions. I’m stuck living on social security now. Who knows how safe that is.

I worked with the UAW 3 times and they only protect the dead weight I work R&l And right now Best company I have ever worked for we. Hired a bunch of Yellow drivers and Holland drivers. They started talking union crap I told them they can get the f out of here now. I'm putting up with that Union crap anymore One guy left the other guy got fired U a w and all other unions can kiss my a$$

I use to pick up freight,on my own trailer, at TNT (heavily union) in Buffalo New York. I was called everything but a white boy by those union drivers. You couldn’t talk to them sensibly. The fact is, I hauled freight that they could not , for many reasons. One being that they had no service in the area I was taking freight and if they couldnt provide service to their customers in Buffalo, those customers would use another company and union drivers would lose their jobs. Nope. It was to easy to call me scab. I just drove away knowing I was making in a day what it would take them a week or more to Earn, and had far more control over my life.
