Q tip is so down to earth he used to walk around in Teaneck, NJ and speak to people. He would stop by my friend’s restaurant and two highschool girls were there and they didnt recognize him because he is low key and my friend told the girls he was Q tip and they didnt believe him and Q tip started rapping for them and the girls recognized his voice and the lyrics and screamed and it made me smile because he made those girls day. They jumped and screamed and I thought this is what the hip hop culture is all about.

That is how so many Queens artists were back then. They always came back and and we saw them everyday. They talked to us asked us about our families and school.Even at the height of their careers. They gave pool parties, basketball games, trips to great Adventure, free concerts too. This is why we always supported them.

I'm not surprised that Q-Tip said they were looking to compete against the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gaye instead of their contemporaries, because that is exactly the kind of vibe their music emanated. They were like the EW&F of hip hop. They were jazzy, soulful and organic. They birthed the subgenre of "alternative hip hop," which carved a lane for guys like The Roots, Common, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Kanye and Kendrick Lamar.

When Tip started talking about Straight Outta Compton influencing Low End Theory it makes total sense since I always thought LET and The Chronic are the most sonically produced Hip Hop albums ever. If you are a producer these are the two albums to study. The perfect Combo of production, engineering, lyrical content and originality.

The idea that an artist has to only be talking about righteous subjects to be considered conscious is both misleading and inaccurate. 2Pac was definitely "conscious". His duality doesn't negate that. Wu-Tang,Nas,Styles P, Kendrick Lamar,J.Cole,Saigon,even Jay Z. Kanye at certain points throughout the years. You can't tell me these are not "conscious" emcees. They articulate their lives and thoughts at the highest level. People need to give artists space to grow,experiment,and be versatile. A truly conscious person is well rounded and versed in different ways of conveying their messages.⤵️ Definition of Conscious: Characterized by or having an awareness of one's environment and one's own existence,sensations,and thoughts. synonym: aware. Mentally perceptive or alert;awake. Capable of thought,will,or perception. Conscious definition is - having mental faculties not dulled by sleep,faintness,or stupor : awake. Conscious definition,aware of one's own existence, sensations,thoughts, surroundings,etc.

Yes, Pac touched on many conscious issues in his music but when an artist has the number of hardcore gangster lyrics as Pac did, I don't think you can put him in the same conscious lane as a Common or a Mos Def. Pure conscious Mc's keep violence to a minimum
@KardiFan2000
@KardiFan2000 2 жыл бұрын
@@Topsey2000 You don't get it...Conscious is a state of mind, state of being...Common and Mos Def's consciousness isn't the same as Paris and Public Enemy's consciousness. If you want to criticize Pac's ARTISTRY, fine, but that doesn't mean he wasn't conscious.

My issue with the guy, I think his name was Mecca, is that he truly expects these young dudes to know the ins and outs of the business side fresh out of highschool. Especially when hip hop was young and these dudes was coming up. You can't expect a young 18 Q-Tip to know this type of stuff, unrealistic in every way shape and form. They didn't even sniff that type of knowledge in them schools. Where these dudes get this type of knowledge coming into a business meeting, come on bruh. With power comes responsibility period. The business culture is created by the individuals that create it and is in control and them execs knew these young men coming in to these meetings knew nothing about the business practices they were conducting. It is only after years, even decades are we catching this stuff after trial and error.

@@urbanflavorz quit ass kissing. He speaks from the position he does because he’s part of something that always gets questioned yet comes off as the guy who tries to look out for his artists and make sure they’re well informed. He’s also doing that from a position of defense and saying at the end of the day it’s the fault of the artist for getting jerked and not the labels. That’s why Q-Tip was saying that these labels should be looking out for these artists and making sure they’re well informed because without these artists, these labels wouldn’t be making money in the first place so why even jerk em? I’ll always question the ethics of a person, man or woman that makes excuses for shady behavior. Fuck you mean? Ya boy even said to always ask questions so you wrote all that stupid shit for nothin’..
