PS. This video is so fitting as I go back to the industry tomorrow (new job) after being laid off for 10 months during the pandemic!
I will not lie the industry is a bit scares with positions but if I can give you some pieces of advice, you're going to be just fine!
1. Your work ethic will take you to the moon! This industry treasures loyalty and work ethic so much! You may not always get paid what you initially hoped for but by working and proving you are an asset and a hybrid for the company, the raise wont be far off.
2. To piggy back off #1, when accepting a job always request a "Job Offer Letter/Email" this will ensure that everything is down on paper from the rate to anything else you may have negotiated with them. And always negotiate a "1 year review" to reconsider all parties needs, do you need a new title, raise, switch of department, etc.
3.Networkkkkk, this goes without being said but since the industry is so small, everybody knows everybody. Don't get on a high horse and go burning bridges, this could really affect you in the long run.
4. With that being said, learn to stand up for your self and don’t t be afraid to ask for what you need. This industry can chew you up and spit you out real quick if you let it. I've learned being as transparent and honest as possible gets you what you need from companies and they know what to expect of you. In my opinion there is nothing worse than being set up to fail, so don't do that to yourself or let anyone else do that for you.
Being able to attend FIDM from 2014-2016 was truly a blessing and I loved every bit of it! Even though, they were one of the NO's I received when sharing my goals to attend. When you truly want something, the universe knows and you can move mountains or in this case fine prints.
I hope this video is some what informative but mostly motivational.
