A list of my favorite apps that I use everyday as a critical care flight paramedic. These applications are used for everything from referencing protocols, to calculating drip rates (along with other med math) to reading up to date studies on down time.
The apps discussed in this video include......
PPP App
Active 911
Critical
IV Calc
Epocrates
MDCalc
Calculator
ERG2020
Stroke Scales for EMS
Deployed Medicine
NREMT
Flightradar24
SOAR MTA

Yeah - guess only "boomer medics" like the professionals I worked with actually knew their stuff enough to not need to whip out their phones. Then again, they weren't high ego flight paramedics either - just ordinary people doing an extraordinary job of taking care of the sick and injured in the back of an ambulance. Personally, I'd work with them any day.

I wish Epocrates would actually just flat out say what the drug is used for (like used to treat high blood pressure, depression, etc) and the drug class/type (beta blocker, blood thinner, PPI, etc). Because I tend to need it when someone says a drug that I don’t know, but it doesn’t say what the drug is actually used for and what type of drug it is. I actually find google to be better in that reguard

I had surgery March 17th and had complications. I developed a blood clot in my left leg and one in my lungs. Then I developed a staph infection on part of the incision sight. May 13th I had to go see the surgeon and he took the top off and now I have an open wound. I also had to have an iron infusion. On the way home an hour and a half away my van broke down. It took a week to get it towed to an engine repair shop. People prep so you have food and medical supplies to care for yourself in case of emergencies.

I'm surprised, honestly. "Boomer," "Ok boomer" and the like have become such banal, throwaway insults that it's hardly even original or surprising any longer. Always comes across as arrogant, to me, when people use it - case in point being the smug smile that accompanied the usage here.

By the way - make sure your protocols don't have any rules forbidding the usage of cell phones when working with a patient, first and foremost or this super cool video can cost you your job. What a shame, incidentally, that you chose to put in your snide comment about "boomer medics" (you know, the medics who paved the way for you to come along and do what you do) complete with your smug little smile. That was a throwaway insult and beneath you. For all your cleverness, two things remain so - some regions require you to carry those "outdated books" in their vehicles, and also books such as the ERG don't run out of power. The flaming can now begin, but I'll be glad to unsubscribe and get my information from someone who doesn't think themselves better than others by spitting on the people who got them where they are.
@SGWChaosteam
@SGWChaosteam 3 жыл бұрын
No flaming needed. I think you´re right. I, myself without any professional medical training other than basic combat medic in the german airbourne, really dig some of the apps. I´m often out in the woods bushcrafting, geocaching and climbing and i hope these apps can help me when shit hits the fan and i´m too nervous to remember. I think he just made a joke about boomer medics and his smirk just meant that he doesnt think that way at all. But i agree with you on unfortunate joke placement. I myself rely heavily on electronic maps and navigation, but would never leave to unknown terrain without an hardcopy backup and oldschool navigation equipment/Pen and Paper. I think the golden way is to use tablets given by your job and hardcopy backups in every vehicle. My generation (I just got 30 this week) is used to work with Tablets and phones and the people are really fast in using them. This can help to reduce time a lot. If you pack the tablet in an military graded cover and you use constant and microcontrolled charging in the vehicles you´d be safe to not loose power. But i would always insist on having a backup, written on paper, in reach. That´s the case in most german responding cars, fire service, ambulances, and mobile doctor teams which are a big part of germans EMS. I would love too hear your opinion on it, since i´m not an EMS responder, just responding to wildlife medical calls as an volunteer. And i will try out some of the apps in training, eve nwhen i don´t need half of it, since i don´t have protocols or allowance to give medication. Hope my english is good enough for this discussion :-)
