I used to treat my supplies as something "precious" to mess up with. I've heard many artists who said that you don't need expensive stuff to make art but you're probably the one who inspired me the most. Since I started watching your videos, I've been using some materials that I never thought I'd use this much like my colored pens that I was about to throw away, and some inexpensive highlighters. This actually eliminated the fear of "wasting" art materials (since they were cheap) and I'm now more confident to sketch than before. It also allowed me to explore and experiment with materials that I never thought would be my favorites to use. 'Yung mga materials na dati hindi ko pinapansin at kalat-kalat lang sa bahay, ngayon gamit na gamit ko na. Labyu po ate!❤ hahaha

TOTALLY agree!! My coloured ball point pens are my fav art supply for quick sketches. They are easily accessed because there is practically no setting up/packing up like you would have with paints, and I never feel guilty or like I'm "wasting" art materials if I make a mistake when I'm sketching. Also, because they cannot be erased, the coloured ball point pens teach me to embrace the errors and just push through to the finished piece. It is these experiments that push us all to be better and braver artists than we ever though we could be! So thank-you for this video, and for showing us that these "simple" art supplies are often the best ones for helping us to sketch fearlessly! 👏👏👏 Keep going, everyone!! Use literally whatever supplies you have! Remember that even humble ballpoint pens will help you, if only you give them the time ❤️❤️❤️💪💪💪🤗🤗🤗

I just wanted to say your amazing, and really underrated! My favorite thing is your loose style of sketching, and your underlying structure that you start with. When ever I watch one of these videos, it makes me feel like I can just open my sketchbook and start having fun without making me feel pressured when I'm on my break. Thank you for the content!

I have studied anatomy - I can honestly say it has been a blessing to have that background when I'm doing figurative drawings and portraits. It just makes proportions so much easier, and I am able to quickly indicate important anatomical landmarks right at the beginning of the drawing, which makes the whole process run smoothly overall. There are also many "anatomy for artists" books that might be great to have at home as a reference. I find reference books like that really useful to have in my studio, and definitely worth the investment ❤️❤️❤️❤️

When I was little, my tutor teachers wouldn’t let me use nice art supplies because I wasn’t “worthy” of them. I am “worthy” of them now but I can’t bring myself to use them. I draw best when I’m drawing with $2 crayola brands on computer paper. I hope I can overcome this some day.

It's true that beginners don't need expensive art supplies/ It's also true that pros don't need them. Having said that, the better your supplies, the easier it is to do the task at hand. Just because you don't NEED something does not mean you wouldn't benefit greatly if you had it and used it. "Need" is simply the wrong question, and the wrong way to view things. Graphite pencils are a good example. I have sixteen brands of graphite pencils, including all the big name brands, and several cheap Chinese brands. All of the big name brands and at least five of the Chinese brands are more than good enough to do professional level work, but more of the big name brands are also pretty cheap, so buy one or two of them. There's no sense saving two dollars because you don't NEED" expensive brands. There isn't enough money to make me use a ballpoint pen fopr sketching. These work fine for those who don't expect to draw hyperrealism with graphite, or even with color pencils, but they can prevent a beginning artist from ever learning these things. Not learn them is bad. It's horrible. You can get very good without these graphite skills, but I've yet to see where any artist attained the status of "GREAT without them. For beginners, bad sketches mean bad drawings. They just do. Ballpoint pen sketching works best for those who want to be painters, and only after they've learned to use graphite well. Focus your learning on pro artists who are not only great with graphite, but who don't mix ink, watercolor, or anything else with the graphite. Or, to put it a better way, artists who are extremely good with graphite, and who have many, many instructional videos than teach graphite without anything else added. Otherwise, you may never learn, may never reach the level where you want to be. You don't NEED expensive supplies, but you should buy the best you can afford. If you're more worried about "wasting" expensive supplies, which is impossible, than you are about becoming the very best you can be, then give up now.

I have both and I can say they are both very good quality. The black ones just have more carbon in them so they don't reflect as much light as graphite and look darker. It's more about taste than anything. The black ones are also a little harder to erase due to the carbon.
