Love that you made this follow up. Absolute class act. I’ll opt out of the giveaway as I have a beautiful setup I’ve put together over many years, but want to preemptively congratulate whoever the winner may end up being, and just say that learning to record, mix, and master your own music is a life changing and fulfilling skill that can set you on an amazing path in life. At the very least it is an awesome creative outlet with endless possibilities. Thanks again, Fluff, for being an awesome creator who listens to your community.

I'd love to hear a song recorded using the stuff you recommend so beginners can hear the quality. I've used Focusrite stuff since your first home studio video back in the day and bang for buck, it's brilliant. Cheers Fluff.

This follow up needed to get made. The gear your friend recommended is nice to have but clearly there are less expensive items that will still produce quality results

Great video dude! I really appreciate you jumping back and giving us a different perspective. Beau's take was interesting, but this pertained to me a little more.

Monitor wise, i'd also add the Adam Audio line. The T5V's are on sale at Sweetwater for $149 and even better, the T7V also on sale at the moment for $199! Can't go wrong with Adam Audio. And for $119, you can get the Lewitt LCT 240 PRO mic that sounds great on vocals, acoustic guitars, cabs... pretty nice unit.

Thank you for doing a follow up. I was one of those comments from the previous video. Just entered the contest. I’ve been using an IPad with GarageBand and a $20 iRig and tbh it’s horrible. Winning something like this would greatly improve things. Good luck to all the entries.

Most of the stuff i've bought has been bc of you and glenn. I've got the kali lp6v2's, behringer 404 interface you reviewed a few yr ago, the samson cs mic with interchangeable capsules glenn reviewed yrs ago...and that's it for now. Haven't even plugged any of it in lol.

I have a pretty high end computer, so luckily that wasn’t a factor for me. Software was a huge part of the process for me. I went with Studio One Pro, Amplitube, and Superior Drummer 3. I went with the Axe I/O, because I got it bundled with Amplitube 5 Max. Because I can’t afford a nice amp. I don’t have studio monitors, and my gaming speakers and amp wouldn’t be a true representation, but I do have a nice pair of headphones. I think they’re AGK K77 or something. Probably not the flattest, but workable. As a nicety, I picked up the Faderport 16.

Class act for doing right by your community and doing a re-do. Thanks my fluffy guy! The UA Bolt interface gets overlooked quite a bit, but I think it's more suited for guitar players than a focusrite.

I get a fairly similar sound from the Yamaha hs-5 as I do from the beyerdynamic dt770, both are great to work with.

My beginner setup is a Scarlett 2i2, which I just upgraded to the 4th gen a few days ago. Shure SM7B, PreSonus Eris E44's studio monitors, and I use OBS studio for most recording for voice and gaming. When I record guitar, I use Studio One, and Neural DSP by John Petrucci. Now for my mic, I use FabFilter's De-Esser, and Pro Q EQ. I use OBS for their noise gate and compressor. What I want to know is where you got your pop filter for your RE20 black edition. I was thinking of actually getting the RE27N/D or the black RE20, but can't find many places that sell matching pop filters for either in Canada, or in the USA that's willing to ship to Canada.

Awesome primer. The next thing I'd like to see is beginner setup V2. In other words, how do you augment the basic setup. Example: the mike I'd start with is a Lewitt LCT 440 Pure (and maybe sneak in a Sure SM57 too). Then what's next? For me it would be two sE8 mics.

For a beginner setup I do wonder if one needs both headphones and studio monitors or just one of those would suffice. Thanks for making the video!

Buy once cry once! But… there’s also something to be said about investing in the wrong thing. It would be a shame to spend 5k plus on a set up , and then find out you’re not as passionate about it as you thought. A 1k set up helps you dip your toe in before the all in jump

Home recording noob here: How does the UA Volt stack up to the budget interfaces mentioned here? Right now the Volt includes the software rather than just a three-month license. I appreciate the feedback.

That's how it's designed, you'll get the best sound when right in front of it. If you want to have the mic 1-2m away, you should look into shotgun or lavalier microphones.

Who need scarlet (even when new generation is slightly better), when you can get apogee boom for 250 bucks with dsp and awesome plugins for free or with 50% discount. Boom bring you a much better clean signal for your guitar and has awesome microphone preamp. This interface is must have for that price.
