Oh my goodness, I just thought of something once I watched the video with the kids telling what they are looking forward to. This is a tip that someone gave me when my girls were younger and we took car trips. Start out the trip giving each child a roll of quarters ($10). When they fight, whine, or ask "how soon will we be there", they have to give you a quarter. When they arrive, they can keep whatever they have left. I meant to give them a roll for the way there and another roll for the way back. But they misunderstood and thought I was only giving them one roll that they could keep when we got back home. We only did this on two trips because they got too old for it, but my younger one lost three quarters on the first trip. She was pretty shocked when I actually opened her roll and took one out! But she learned quickly. My older daughter didn't lose any quarters. This worked so well, I couldn't believe it! This was thirty years ago, so you might need to use dollars instead of quarters. I was really amazed at what a difference this made! They actually got along in the car and were helpful to each other. And no more whining!!! This was a big win!
