@@heavensubculture I feel like people only really recognise when they listen to these languages seperately, like when I was younger I couldn't really differentiate Japanese but after watching anime it became easier. I have never seen this movie before but the realistic 90s aesthetic resonates with me. It isn't like most of the other movies which portrays the surroundings as this "pretty, dreamy and neat place" but shows the realistic feeling of the environment. When I watch these clips, I can literally sense the smell of warm air, a whiff of cool night breeze, the buzzing of appliances, or the occasional disturbance from vehicles.

A fact you may not know is that the part of the phone call to a Japanese ex-girlfriend in this video was actually made by Takeshi because Wong Kar Wai had not completed the script yet. He asked Takeshi to call his ex to tell her about something else like the memory of eating sushi together but Takeshi felt it wasn't interested so he changed the script! Wong Kar Wai felt it was better and since then (including in Fallen Angels), Wong asked Takeshi to come up with his own scenes, so a lot of the scenes in these two movies were made by Takeshi. Wong Kar Wai was very appreciative of that, that's why Takeshi is Wong's muse in his movies! (Takeshi was first choice for Beijing's Summer (the first title of In The Mood For Love), co-starring Tony Leung & Maggie Cheung (First choice was Faye Wong, but then replaced her with Maggie) in 1996, but the film was canceled because it couldn't get a license from the China Mainland's government, finally, 4 years later, by the year 2000, Takeshi was already very popular in Japan, he couldn't continue to act in In The Mood For Love because of his busy schedule in Japan back then (This year, he also turned down another important role because of his busy schedule in Japan is Lo Xiao Hou in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Ang Lee chose him for the role and Shu Qi for Zhang Ziyi's role from the beginning). There is a lot of interesting information but most of them are in Chinese, so I think there are many things that English-speaking audiences don't know yet!
@meowcat71210 ай бұрын
Thanks for this! I'm always curious on whether Takeshi or Tony was WKW's muse. Both incredible actors either way
@toridochi9210 ай бұрын
@@meowcat712 both, but Tony has a contract with Wong for many years, it only ended a few years ago. Takeshi has always belonged to the Fulong company and has no legal attachment to Wong, around 2008 when a reporter asked why Wong hadn't worked with Takeshi in a while, Wong said that because Takeshi didn't want to do what he did, wanted to try new things!

I'm more of a Tony Leung gal, but I can't deny that Takeshi is a one in a billion actor. How many actor in the world has the kind of background and track record that he has? None I guess. He played in regular Japanese TV dramas but also played as the Chinese legendary strategist Zhuge Liang in an epic Chinese movie trilogy. He even lent his face as the protagonist of a video game in the early 2000s, before the trend of putting real actor's face in a video game was cool. No one else can be like him.

My question has always been why the beagle is on the counter. Dogs don't jump that high. 223 legitimately placed him on the counter (in-universe) to share his grief.

In Canada, depression is cured with cans of ravioli... in Asia, men are shamefully eating can after can of pineapples with syrup.

He's very handsome, but I wouldn't want to be around any human being right after they ate 30 cans of pineapple.
