@@doublevendetta True, though these are nice since you don't have to fiddle too much with them and they come with built-in controls. I have a first-gen Razer Phone that I thought would suit my portable emulation needs, but carrying around a BT controller with it that's larger than the phone for it to work is less than ideal. Thanks for this review. I think that you’ve helped me get some clarity on what the perfect handheld emulation device would be, to me. Especially when you said at 4:53 about valuing user experience. I’ve never manufactured something of the magnitude of the device I’m imagining, but it’s starting to come together. Basically the ultimate handheld Nintendo emulator through GBA, with maybe a premium version that could handle N64, GameCube, and Wii. The ideas are percolating...

btw, thank you for calling out the shortcomings of these devices. We need a ready to go device with a thought out, simple and elegantly designed UI. A clean UI, unified and elegant option menus with just the right amount of options for aspect ratio and clean pixels as well as good save state options. Finally and one thing you don't mention (that the S30 doesn't have) is a sleep function. These devices MUST have sleep mode to be worth on-the-go play.

I just use a jailbroken psvita for my portable emulator, pretty much has all the positives you would want for one and its unique negatives (such as needing to jailbreak it and the storage) are either very easy to do or have easy work around that works very well. It has a strong homebrew community that is still going to this day and has enough power to run any emulator for a home console from the 90's (yes including n64) and any portable console that came before the vita (except maybe the DS). It can play psp games and ps1 games natively but normally locked behind the ps store (if you have psp games digitally they will automatically transfer over). But if you get adrenaline it essentially gives you a psp virtual machine which literally means when you boot up the application it boots up the psp firmware and you can treat you vita like a psp, this is where you can play your psp and ps1 games. The ps vita also has built in dual analogue support for ps1 games used via adrenaline and for psp games that had movable camera but needed some weird button hot key to move it, I'm pretty sure other emulators take advantage of this as well. Overclocking the cpu also helps, but the vita is actually underclocked by default to save battery, so you can set it to its base clock speed and it actually doesn't seem to affect the battery that much, I can get a locked 30fps in the god of war port using the base clock speed which is nice. The ps vita is all in all an underrated portable console and a great portable emulator.

5:16 Of all characters to associate with the Sega Megadrive, Majin Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho is TOTALLY the first that comes to mind.

I'm both sad that this is bad but also relieved because I bought a Retroid Pocket 2 *just* before this was announced. Phew!

Its a raspberry pi. Im pretty sure the new ones can run n64 too. Any controller you want, any size screen, any ui design, and any case/controller design. And they also make kits if you dont want to learn

He never seemed to mention it, but how is the actual feel of the dpad and buttons, etc.? None of the other pocket emulators looks comfortable/well made enough to warrant purchasing and knowing that this one is made with the fantastic 8bitdo components, I’d really like to know :)
