Arturia Pigments is one of many do it all synthesizer plugins. Omnisphere, Phaseplant, Serum, Vital, Reaktor, Massive, all make an attempt to be an all inclusive solution for sound design and synthesis. Each of these plugins are incredible tools but for me Pigments is a step above the rest due to a number of reasons. Its incredible user interface, is hyper logical and quick to use. The educational potential is huge due to to its amazing "Sound Design Tips" feature within each preset. The modulation system scratches that modular synth itch with its random and generative modulation sources. The sequencer is amazing and the midi program change feature is killer for live musicians.

I got a great deal on Pigments when it was on sale since I owned an Arturia keyboard. It was an impulse buy since it was so cheap but it quickly became my favorite all in one synth. I will definitely be interested in the course when it becomes available.

I own Serum, PIgments and Phaseplant. Phaseplant has a really great environment but its a bit of a learning curve which I am still learning. With that said, Pigment is a monster for its price and what it comes with. Arturia have it up to 4.0 now which has tons of presets and options. It has a ARP and a seq. built in too. It does take a lot of CPU. I'd pick Phase plant if it wasnt for the support by Arturia. You cant go wrong with Serum, but it feels outdated compared to both I've mentioned. Best bang for your buck is Pigments.

I did a silly thing when I started taking production more seriously in the last 2 years and got a ton softsynths all at once before really learning synthesis basics; Sylenth1, Massive, Massive X, Serum, Vital, Dune 3 and Pigments. Dune 3 and Pigments have been the most inspiring to me. While Dune 3 certainly isn't the best do it all, it sounds simply amazing! Pigments still intimidates me but I know how capable it is. It does seem a bit more CPU hungry than a lot of the other softsynths though. I'm really looking forward to your course on it!

Ive had Serum for around 8 years, and am just now learning how to make my own sounds instead of just buying using presets. I’ve been wondering about pigments, and if it might be easier to learn than serum. This video, while a bit over my head on some of the vocabulary, makes this a clearer choice. I use Ableton also. I have Bitwig, fl studio and Ableton, but the first two don’t come remotely close to Ableton. So I really believe u when you say pi is better. Thanks for the video!

Becasue you never mentioned anything about the sound quality and to be honest we are at eh end of the vid and I am still waiting to hear that its your fave because it sounds so good! you like how there are no flat spots with filters or the effects.. so sadly I feel like this was just a "blow smoke up Pigmens ass while selling my wears" :( sadl

man pigments is more awesome than i thought. phaseplant is crazy too. i love the fx module approach (like in ableton itself) and the macro inception capabillity. multipass is such a beast. to have fx slot into fx slot into multiband fx slot into macro controls inception is mental. but yes it lacks sequenzerwise. but i think it has pros towards internal (and) external fx. everything is a module/plugin, so you can have your fav kilohearts fx on like any source you want. no even better. on any band you want, with multipass, which can be as well used as module/plugin. but pigments is sexy, the modulation looks very powerfull.

Yep, the Pigments UI is amazing. First plugin I actually bought - installed the demo and within a few hours I stumped up the money for it. Wasn't the first I installed, either. But interesting comparison to Ableton Live, though. I had Standard for a couple of years before I purchased a Suite upgrade in a deal - and discovered how much I'd been missing out. Ableton does a really poor job of conveying to new users that buying Suite is far far better value than buying Standard and then gradually buying a dozen (or more) plugins. Of course, that said, I will wouldn't give up Pigments. :-)

The "problem" with stock Live devices is, that the majority of "how to make sound X like artist Y / song Z" tutorials revolve around most popular VST (let's say Serum), as it did with Massive/FM8 in the past. Unfortunately I tend to eat more "educational content" than I actually fool around and learn on my own, so in the end, the bridge to cross gets longer, especially that I try to reproduce those tutorials with already owned software (Vital, Surge etc), which is somewhat counterproductive, as mentioned stock devices lay untouched, and the incentive to grab and master them diminishes in favor of the hype and dopamine hit after I remake a single sound (that I probably won't use anyway) in a third-party software. Because it's faster to copy someone's settings and hope to remember even quarter of logic behind decisions the author have made.

My favorite Do-It -All synth plugin is Analog Lab and always will be...why? The extremely intuitive GUI, the ease of accessing presets, the incorporation of all of Arturia's individual instruments that make up a massive conglomeration of sounds and the seamless & instant layering of any 2 presets from the massive library. It's so insanely easy to create amazing custom presets and no sound design knowledge is required. Personally...I didn't care for Ableton...as I don't like the layout(as I always loved the workflow of Propellerhead Reason.)

I do love Pigment's UI, although not crazy about the childish "crayon" color scheme. But in the end I just don't think it *sounds* that great... I think they had to sacrifice a bit of quality for flexibility and GUI power. So I don't end up using it. Meanwhile Largo is a much dumber synth, but it's just more inspiring, same as how the Blofeld is more inspiring than the Hydrasynth, even if the Hydra has a way better UI and is more "powerful" (for one timbre anyway).

Arturia makes great hardware and midi devices. But they will suck your pockets dry of your hard earned cash every update they get. Any business model that you have to keep paying for updates is crazy these days! for my 40 years in this game. Back in the days Propellerhead's Reason was a great way to get into the world of synths without hardware. These days I want to pay once and get free updates and even sell the software if I choose. U-He is by far the best sounding best bang for your buck out there. Zebra and Hive can do just about anything. Diva gives me the analog that puts my hardware in the closet. Find it hard at my age to trust anything a young guy with a man bun says. But to each its own. lol
