Very helpful thanks. The only way I could get my new keyboard shortcuts to work was delete the assigned shortcuts for each key first, save that, and then assign a new shortcut. Took me a while to figure this out.

Heh, here, I was going to watch this video to learn a few new keyboard shortcuts, and instead, I learned something far more valuable. That is a way to find a keyboard shortcut for something, and if it doesn't exist, you get to make one yourself. Awesome video.

I am trying to switching to DaVinci Resolve as currently I have no earnings from my videos but still paying for Adobe Premiere Pro subscription which is a bummer to me also Adobe crash sometimes and has performance issues too. I am pretty hopeful that I can learn DaVinci Resolve just by following you, so far so good. Thanks Casey you are contributing a lot to the community.

that, has just saved me so many headaches!! not for the split, but i have a small keyboard and keep accidentally hitting the home button instead of delete and was always getting jumped to the start. finally found where to delete that stupid hot key thanks to this video ahaha

Awesome! 🙂Specific issue: with a non-Englis keyboard (a Hungarian one in my case) - I don't have the" [ " key, I can only access it if I press Alt Gr + F, so the Ctrl+Shift+[ doesn't work. Solution: I searched for the " [ " and "ripple" in the keyboard shortcut settings, and you can customize them under the "Start to Playhead" and "End to Playhead", so I changed it to Ctrl+Shift+Ú and Ctrl+Shift+Ű

I'm just customizing a bunch of keyboard shortcuts and noticed that for some reason Fusion has its own hardcoded shortcut keys that will take precedence over any custom keyboard shortcuts. For example F7 enables the Keyframes tab and F8 enables the Spline tab. Since I've mapped F1 through F7 as Media through Deliver pages this can mess things up, but only when I'm in the Fusion page. '1' and '2' are also hardcoded to assign a node to a screen. Also "cinema viewer' is a great shortcut that fullscreens your video from anywhere (except Fusion). I've made it 'f'.

I love the ripple cuts. Just learned that recently. I have an issue where I try to use it in the edit page but it doesn't work until I have selected a clip. Could you explain how ripple cut works with multiple video tracks? Would that cause this issue?

You have to click on the keyboard layout on the top (for example 0:40 mark). Then click on individual key you want to assign, it will tell you if there is a command already assigned. You have to remove it first, then assign your own. Another way is to use the search function to find out what's assigned already.

When I try to assign any of these keys (S,Q,W) I get an error message stating those letters are already assigned to other functions? For instance, S is already assigned to Trim>Toggle Slip/Slide Mode. If I try to assign "S" anyway, I get a yield sign with and explanation mark in it. Can you tell me how to make this work without getting an error message?

Please reference the command key for Mac when saying control key because Mac also has a control key but doesn’t function the same as a PC. Great Video!

Hi Casey, When you use this feature to cut and move the clip with one key, does that delete the clip that was cut out so if you change your mind and want to retrim the clip that is not possible because the clip has been deleted? I know sometimes I make a cut and then move the clip end so the part of the clip you cut and don't see anymore is still there to revise if you want. Also is there a short cut to send the playhead to the beginning of the first clip in the timeline and to the end of the last clip in the timeline?

This is amazing, I've used q and w for ripple to playhead for years, and this is the 3rd video I've seen in the past months that use the exact same key binding. Why does everyone seem to instinctively select Q and W for this action 😂😅 At this point NLE makers ashould just make it their default.

Hi Casey. I am unable to get the "Add Subtitle" shortcut working. Every subtitle I want to add, I right click on the track at the playhead and click on Add subtitle. Moving back and forth from keyboard to mouse is really frustrating while adding a lot of subtitles to my video. Is there a bug in the Ctrl + Shift + S add subtitle keyboard shortcut? Are you able to use it?

Hi Casey, love your videos. I just purchased 18 and a Mac mini. Here I attempted exactly what you did with the S for split. I got a warning saying it was already assigned. I said YES I want to assign to S and then a BIG Yellow "somethings wrong" icon. Went to see if it worked, and ... NOTHING!

Yeah you’ll have to unassign the other shortcut. Just click on the keyboard key on the keyboard shortcuts window, it’ll tell you everything it’s assigned to. Then you can click on the other shortcut it tells you and unassign it.

I'm looking for two essential kb shortcuts. one for scrubbing shots on timeline, or playhead follows cursor. The another one is "extend clip end or start to playhead", currently it works only when playhead sits inside the clip, not outside the selected clip on timeline. Please let me know if you know. In Final Cut there is a way to highlight a portion of the clip and adjust it. Say you want to increase the volume of a part of a speech, you would be able to just highlight those few seconds and adjust the volume without having to split the clip and adjusting. Is there a way to do that in Resolve?

Had a few glitches. Are you using Windows? The "Q" and "W" were already assigned and in the Cut Page, the "P" was also already assigned. 16.2.4. Now at 16.2.5 I managed them by using "control q" and w" and in the Cut page, "command p".

Well you can always unasign those keys. Don't know what Q and W are used for originally. But P is used for a full screen view which in pretty sure you can also get with ctrl+F

Casey, please please tell me a shortcut to increment numeric boxes using a keystroke (i.e., in inspector tool/position, click box and nudge the values using arrow keys like it does in basically every other program). Ideally, like say, After Effects (and Resolve's "nudge" shortcuts), you could modify with shift or command to alter the sensitivity. I refuse to accept this isn't possible throughout Resolve.

eslewhere in your channel, you use Ctrl+Spacebar as a shortcut to access the searcher for effects. This shortcut is not standard (on Mac) and there seems to be no way to create or add it to keyboard shortcuts. How?
