Indian red, lemon yellow and Payne's grey (the one that has a blue undertone) are my go to color set. I just love them so much!!

rose madder lake (pv19), yellow lake (py150) and phthalo blue - green shade (pb15:1) are my go to. It is the cleanest mixing trio I have - so great for beginner. It makes bright purples, deeper blue, forrest green, lime greens as well as a nice red colour. I find the oranges are a tiny bit muted due to not having a warm red, but I don't use orange often and I don't ever need the most vibrant orange. The orange is still pretty bright with the mix anyway. You can create really muted tones as well with further mixing. I would highly recommend these three colours/pigments if anyone wanted to try a limited palette as they are so versatile.

I love the combination of indian yellow, ultramarine and quin magenta the most. Since I paint landscapes mostly, I feel I can get most of the work done with these colors. Usually I add burnt sienna to this to neutralise the ultramarine!

One of my favorite limited palettes is “yellow ochre” “phthalo blue” and “burnt sienna” I use QOR water colors for this.

I mainly use a rose or pink color, a medium or warm yellow and a cool blue color.

i haven’t been really painting for THAT long but my go-to for portraits is raw sienna (pbr 7), indanthrone blue (pb 60), and perm alizarin crimson deep (pr 206)!!! i just love the darks that you can make and the earthiness of the raw sienna. the mixes are actually pretty similar to this palette!! this was such a great video thank you so much!! the painting is beautiful

I like a similar palette to yours, but like using transparent red iron oxide/English red for the red. I sometimes use yellow ochre instead of the raw sienna, but they are both lovely. PB60 is a necessity!

Fantastic work! You make the most informative videos, Arleebean! Indigo is my absolute favorite dark/shadow mixing color. I adore it. However, my favorite primary triad are Quin Magenta/Quin Gold/Cobalt Teal or Turquoise.

My favorite semi-universal portrait trio is ultramarine, permanent alizarin and some transparent neutral yellow like PY154. Another fun trio that makes beautiful purples is (the pink version of) PV19, some turquoise like PB36 and an opaque warm yellow like PY216. I’m really bad with warm reds, and quit trying to use them, if I need it, I just mix it from a cooler red and yellow. Belated happy birthday to you!

I don't use red too often but I've always liked Prussian blue and lemon yellow. The green they make is super nice for painting plants and birds.

In White Nights, my favorite palette this : Quinacridone red + lemon + cobalt turquoise (or bright blue) Quinacridone red + cadmium yellow medium + bright blue Carmine + indian gold + indanthrene blue I have more limited mixes, but this are my true favorites.

My favorite triad to use is Holbein's alizarin crimson, DS's french ultramarine and the old DS quinacridone gold po49 (I have a few tubes that I saved thankfully!). The mixes aren't overly saturated but you can still get a nice purple if you want it.

Happy belated birthday! It’s so cool to see how mixes with a lot of pigments work in a painting because that’s definitely something I tend to lean away from. My favourite primary triad is a quinacridone gold hue (I use Qor’s), a PR177 alizarin crimson hue, and an indanthrene blue.

This piece came out so nice! I'm not a huge fan of traditional triads, but I recently realized how much I love pastel triads! Like a baby pink, a pale mint, and a pale lemon yellow are my favorites to look at together. I also love limited palettes that are either all warm toned or all cool toned, but with a pop of notable color! Also happy belated birthday and thank you for this video!

A color palette that I love the vibe of is perelyne maroon,nickel azo yellow and dioxazine purple. The deep Aubergine colors this makes are my favorite colors. But this is also a palette I like to do for skin tones as the colors can tint out nicely to pale pinks and yellows. Another palette that is my go to triad though is quin magenta,nickel azo yellow and pthalo blue. It is a great versatile palette that can make dark blacks because of the transparent yellow

My favourite lately has been opera/quin gold/green gold and the other day I discovered the perfect deep skin tone trio to juxtapose the first mentioned; perylene maroon/quin gold deep/perylene green * chef kiss *

My go to primaries are really close to CMYK. I use a more magenta instead of red, a cooler yellow, and a vibrant light blue. I desaturate with just a little bit of black. I know I’m not working traditionally, but it works beautifully for me!

My favorite trio is Daniel Smith quin rose, quin gold, and ultramarine. If i get a 4th color it's sepia. Sometimes i use phthalo blue or m. Graham anthaquinone instead depending on what I'm painting. I just paint as a hobby though. I'm not an expert at mixing and I don't have much paint to choose from. Sometimes i just paint with all of my blues because I really like blue.

My go-to triad is New Gamboge, Carmine or Perm Rose and Ultra Blue. I just love the coral tones I get by mixing the gamboge and the rose😍 i can swap the blue but I find the yellow and the rose to be staples for me!

I like to use phtalo blue, a warmer red and a less saturated yellow as my go to trio. However, i don' t have a less saturated yellow so i mix a lot of colors to get it. Ps: Happy birthday!!

I actually paint a lot with a secondary triad, and I also use mainly White Nights (thanks to your recommendation and experience with them). My go to colors are Quin Violet, WN Green, and Indian Gold. Even though Indian Gold is a two pigment color I find the mixes very reliable and beautiful. Happy belated birthday and thank you for your amazing videos!

I just love your limited palette videos, it's very interesting to see a handful of different colors interacting with each other while you paint. The muted mixes in this video were just delightful! My favorite watercolor triad is quinacridone gold, quinacridone rose and ultramarine. The quin gold and quin rose are my favorites for mixing

Loved this color combo! :D limited palettes are so much fun for me now that I've been trying more of them as close to the ones as you feature here on the channel. I've always favored a cobalt teal, rose opera and lemon yellow primary color palette. Cobalt teal granulates in most situations and it just is so pretty! Anyway (: keep up the most excellent work!

My favourite primary set is very similar to this! In gouache naples yellow usually has some more white, so I sneak in gold or yellow ochre too, and often have payne's gray instead of indigo. But cadmium red light is! the nicest!! By far my most used red in all media for years!

Maybe not a full trio but three that I like/always use are Vandyke Brown, Ultramarine and Cadmium Yellow. I like to paint nature/sunset pictures so these work really well together ^^

Because the 48 pack of the kuretake gangsi tambi paints is so big, if I ever wanted to take my paints with me I always take Rose Madder, which is this very pinky magenta-y red color and with that I use Cadmium Yellow Medium I believe its called, its more of a bright gold color and then I use Ultramarine Blue, I have found myself really loving very pinky and ultramarine blue mixes for skyscapes and then hitting the bottom of clouds with just a splash of yellow from the sun and they look really good together and if you use these three you can make basically every other bright color in the kuretake gangsai tambi pallet, thats another reason I love them

This video shows that there's no "wrong" colors or colors you "shouldn't use". It's all a matter of taste, the subject you are painting and the atmosphere you want to convey in that piece!

My favourite limited palette atm is Raw Sienna (P.Br.7), English Red (P.R.102) and Cobalt Blue (P.B.28) all from White Night watercolor 😊

i've always loved the combination of ultramarine, yellow ochre and magenta (the pv42 one). it's a nice pallette for portraits, since it's pretty warm, so it's fairly easy to mix skin tones.

i think my favorite primary trio (so far) is also from the White Nights set: Titian Red, Indian Gold, and Ultramarine Blue i really love punchy oranges and moody greyed out purples, and this triad delivers both!

@@rubyduby2656 its kind of both actually! I prefer the bluer tones in the dv grey over what I've used in other brands and the same goes for the other two. I have similar colors in other brands but I found that I get the cleanest mixes with these three specifically.

Hi. i'm a little "Old School" regarding a personal trio. I think if i had to choose 3 it would be : Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna and Prussian Blue. (Yes i'm more a lanscape and cityscape painter :D )

i just got ready to paint and got the notif, so i started sketching with you! :). Had a wonderful time and loved so much the limited palette that I'm using the closest option I've got: cadmium yellow and english red by white nights and mayan dark blue by DS. Mine is definitely more saturated, I'd love to get a naples yellow, since you use it so much. Happy late birthday!

Arlee I love your videos is much more than you probably think and you’re a big inspiration for me especially when it comes down to studies since you embrace the fact that you’re still learning! And I was wondering if you do regular realistic or fairly realistic graphite portrait studies (like trying to capture the likeness and the essence of the reference without many added elements) and if so do you ever plan on making a video or a stream of you doing them?

My go to is: Nickel Azo Yellow, Quinacridone Red (PR209) and Cobalt Blue ... or swapping the Nickel Azo Yellow for Quinacridone Gold OR Raw Sienna

for me, my must haves are alizarin crimson (real one I don't care bout lightfastness) payroll red ultramarine blue halo blue Naples yellow and quinacridone gold but if I must have just 3 its probably phalo blue blue shade alizarin crimson and Naples yellow

My trio: it’s a nickel azo yellow PY150, Quin Rose pv19, and lastly either Indantrone blue or pthalo blue red shade pb15:6. This trio makes beautiful oranges and greens due to the PY 150 yellow that was game changer

My favourite triad from DS is Nickel Azo Yellow, Pyrrol Orange, and Perylene green (so not really a blue, but Indanthrone could replace it). You get the most amazing browns! I would love to see you try that one 😃☀

And second, I have a question about the naples yellow... is this color came in your set if white nights because I have ordered this palette (36 colors) and it seems to not be in the colors selection.... Thank you for your kind words! And I'm sorry for the confusion! I'm actually using a customized set of White Nights paints. I purchased a few colors to see if I liked the brand (one of those colors was Naples Yellow), then got the 36 color set and swapped some colors around.

Sorry. I love the soft muted colors. Maybe you could use teal, a rose color like rose madder and cad yellow. I love those colors but I don’t know if they would work well together, but I’m sure you would find a way to use them and create a beautiful portrait

Ahh~ I love the way you paint so much. Having subscribed with your Skillshare, I can't still achieve the same result lol. Thank you for inspiring me so much with my love for watercolor. Also, belated happy birthday! It's dope that you got married at such a young age with your husband. Hope financial circumstances will allow the same for me and my boyfriend lol. Happy Birthday Arlee!!! I really am amazed and inspired by how you apply paint and your overall technique is truly phenomenal. I'm always excited for new content and this primary triad is very unique. Personally, I am quite afraid with multi-pigment colors because of the muddiness that they can produce but your triad is very beautiful. As for my favorite triad, I use Indian Yellow(PY 110), Perylene Maroon(PR 179) and Anthraquinone Blue (PB 60), all from M. Graham. These three are very deep versions of each of the primaries and they produce very earthy colors. I can't create my favorite color, which is purple, from my red and blue but I still like how the red and blue mixes as they create a very dark almosf black mixture. I tend to switch my color palette for every painting but for some reason, I always go back to using these 3. Thank you for the great video☺

I haven't been painting a whole lot with them, but I have a bunch of triads with any yellow really (I don't care for yellows), PB15:3, and PR202 (I think, bad memory. Quin. magenta(edit: maybe it's 122?)). I really love that as I'm all about bright vibrant colours. I also recently got a triad of quin. gold, perylene maroon, and indanthrone blue, which I had fun playing with, but sadly haven't been able to do a piece with.

In terms of favourite triads, I'm still working out what I like to paint with, but right now I love the combination of nickel azo yellow, phthalo blue GS (or a cobalt teal for funky granulation) and quin magenta or rose if I want super bright colours. ^v^

Ah, favorite limited palette, I can't say. I'm not that far into my experience with watercolors yet. My favorite primaries would definitely be my Vermillion Hue (I love warm, orangey reds), Permanent Yellow Deep (I LOVE warm yellows) and for blues, I love a lot of blues but it's a close call between Prussian Blue or Cobalt Teal (gotta love that granulation). I have Holbein paints, but my PB50 is from Schminke! Maybe will try a limited palette with these.
