Honestly they’re probably the most positive content creators I’ve seen talk about this game despite all the shittyness. It’s important to recognize things that could’ve been at least decent if the creator just had more self awareness, instead of just calling everything as a whole a complete waste. Also useful for other people who want to make their own RPG, to see what actually could’ve worked and learn from YIIK’s mistakes.

Running Shine's incredible 2 hour long review of Yiik goes for a more level-headed approach of dissecting how each thing went wrong and could be fixed that reminds me a lot of how these guys discuss it. Def recommend it if you've got the time

The alex yiik character is really supposed to be an unlikable loser, you can tell from the writing, i mean in the letsplay alone he got nagged about the fact he has a college degree but no job 10 times, considering he could easily get one if he stopped being an entitled neet

If I had to play it getting the opportunity to lock lips with yuriofwind would be the one brightside to the whole game- sucks that you can't but a Rory-based moral system thing is also good, actually the whole game should be about Rory or whatever- there's a furry flash game about having a being stuck with a cat furry, and you have the option to be his friend, lover, or abuser depending on your choices- that is a game that i would play. It could also be like that one old new grounds game about brainwashing a girl you kidnapped- I would also be happy with a game where you do that to him, or even just a soft fluffy thing. I have to admit, I was actually somewhat Unironically enjoying the bits of YIIK where Alex and the group are...being friendly with eachother. Just having conversations, getting close, even when it's weird and clunky- I can buy (to some degree) that these people like eachother. Even how the others all sort of bond over mutual frustration with Alex, all laughing at him together as he begrudgingly takes it- makes him feel less obnoxious. It was at its best when they were driving around together in Claudio's van, searching for the android- Just sorta...palling around over a mutual interest, having a little fun while they were at it. (Also I was happy that Rory was still alive, and being included. I like him) It's a shame that the bit with the Essentia where she *never shuts up for seven hours straight* comes right after that and just knocks it all down

I can kinda agree with that. If the dialog wasn't ass and the characters had more depth than "HEY GUYS DID YOU KNOW I LIKE ANIME?!" "WHAT I LIKE ANIME TOO!" "WELL I LIKE ANIME SO MUCH THAT IT'S 50% OF MY ENTIRE CHARACTER!" "GUYS, GUESS WHAT!" "WHAT?" "I LIKE VIDEOGAMES" "WAAAAAAAH?!" "I'M GOING TO LIST ALL OF MY FAVORITE GAMES!" (Meanwhile Alex is monologuing) "I wonder if he likes video games......"

But like, he and Chondra have that contrast where he can't get over his brother, and Chondra desperately wants to get over it and not let it define her. And they try something with Vella, with her mind dungeon and the whole performance anxiety/exploitation thing. Michael... Michael isn't much. But, Rory is fun- he's weird, and he seems to really want attention but in an earnest sorta "I'm just lonely" way, and like... ...listen I never said it was *great.* I'm not pretending here. You're absolutely right in that most of them can be boiled down to having one "thing" which they just state outright. All I'm saying is that they were shaping up to be a real Scooby Gang before the game got back to Yiiking us around.

@@neighandwhinnymchorse2100 I think Yiik could've easily been a little better if they had just introduced the destruction of reality thing earlier in the game instead of at the end. Because for most of it Alex is just searching for Sammy, a girl he doesn't even know much about, while everyone else tags along. Rory and Michael don't have much of a motivation to want to stick around Alex nor does Claudio really and Chondra doesn't want to be there at all. If they had established that reality would end by Yiik then it would've made some sense why'd they'd follow Alex. Another easy fix is just have Alex and Sammy be friends or lovers by the start of the story, gives Alex motivation to look for her instead of just "oh I kinda feel bad that I couldn't help her" as if he'd care about some stranger he just met and didn't even had a good reaction with.

I genuinely am thinking about playing this game. I know the comparison is overused, but this really feels like the gaming industrys version of the Room. The people who made it genuinely thought they were making something great and it ends up being unintentionally hilarious and enjoyable in ways the creators did not intend.
