You can also use alt + right click to adjust your brush size. You usually have your left hand around the ctrl/alt area anyway. Works well with alt + scrolling and (shift +) scrolling, which is zooming and moving around the canvas. Which happens often when using any sort of brush-like tool.

You could also play around a bit with the scatter option on a brush. Instead of the useless blur-tool I'm mostly using smudge with a scatter, because it immediately blurs what's underneath the stroke instead of just blur-dragging the pixels along the stroke

Again thank-you Brady for taking the time to make a comprehensive video. Definitely will consider the field blur as well for a non destructive work flow. I like the concept of blurring the edges. Not exactly sure how I will use this technique. However, I am use that I will find a use for it in the near future.

I also use field blur for this. A bit slower but you don't need to rasterize the text. You can do this on smart layers. Which means you can come back to this and make changes later on.

I think you lose a lot of the hands-on aspect using Field Blur, which is why the smudge tool is a more attractive option IMO.

I've been smudge-blurring since version 6, way back in the 90's. The blur tool has never been capable of the levels of blur which it should have been able to. This is a good way to get around how wimpy the blur tool is.
