Most of my favorite romantic suspense books are "old school" ones, but two of my all-time favorites are "Cry No More" by Linda Howard (it will rip your guts out, in the best way possible) and "A Man to Slay Dragons" by Meagen McKinney who also wrote the historical romance "Lions and Lace". I also like "Kill and Tell" and "All the Queen's Men" by Linda Howard. Besides Nora, my other favorite romantic suspense author would have to be Sandra Brown who is currently still writing new books. But past favorites from Ms. Brown are: "The Alibi", "Ricochet", "Smash Cut" and so many others by her - I need to do a reread of all of her books, as soon as I finish rereading all of Nora's books (this year).

Jessica, have you ever tried any of Linda Howard’s romantic suspense? She’s written regular contemporary romance for many years, but in the last few years she’s branched out to romantic suspense. She has several, but the ones I can think of off the top of my head are All the Queens Men and Cry No More.

Beyond Nora Robert’s, my fave romantic suspense authors most who are still currently writing are: Suzanne Brockmann, Linda Howard, Karen Robards, Sandra Brown, Laura Griffin and Karen Rose. Last two along with NR are auto buy authors for me.

Please try Pamela Clare, particularly her I-Team series. Her historical MacKinnon’s Ranger’s series is also fantastic.

I've just been getting into romantic suspense, so this is perfect timing! I have been enjoying the Linear Tactice series by Janie Crouch and a bunch of Nora Roberts (Black Hills, The Witness, and the Saint View Prison series by Elle Thorpe

I love French Twist and The Bullet Catcher series from Roxanne St. Claire. French Twist is such a fun adventure story and the Bullet Catchers are bodyguards. I'd love a Romance Suspense Lite version of this video if you're looking for ideas. More adventure and less serial killers and traumatized characters. Some of the ones I know are also fantasy or paranormal which would be great too. Thanks!

Some of my favorites are by Kat Martin(The Raines of Wind Canyon), Laura Kaye (The Hard Ink Series) and Harper Sloan (Corps Security Series) Also, KC Lynn's Men of Honor series is really good.

I just finished the first book in an m/m paranormal romantic suspense series and loved it! It‘s called The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara (the series is called Big Bad Wolf) and it‘s a human „FBI“ agent (a special sub division of the FBI) and his new werewolf partner who have to solve a series of brutal crimes in a small town in Maine. It was really good! Apparently the series follows the same couple throughout.

I love these authors in romantic suspense :-Toni Anderson, Amanda McKinney, Cherry Adair (adventure/suspense/romance - older books) - hers are in KU. The Mayet Justice series and the Checkmate series by Emilia Finn (read in order) - all in KU. Lexi Blake's Masters and Mercenaries series. J.D Robb's Naked in Death series (aka Nora Roberts). D.K. Hood for serial killer/police/suspense. The Kane and Alton series and Beth Katz series. (BK is in KU). Any romance scenes are suggested, but the books are so gripping and full of action, I don't care. They should be read in order. Finally, Kendra Elliott and Melinda Leigh. All their books are in KU. Suspense/romance. Sometimes not as much romance, but great suspense and plenty of action. Many have free audio with KU. 🙂

Brynne Asher is a favorite the killers series and deathly which is also a dark romance is a good place to start

A romantic suspense series I really enjoyed was the Colorado Mountain series by Kristen Ashley. All the books MCs are intertwined so you really feel immersed in the town and its people. Kristen Ashley has a few great series and if you like her style then you'll love them. Also, if you like urban fantasy with some steamy scenes thrown in, try the Hidden Legacy series by Ilona Andrews. I only like the first 3 books that follow Nevada and Rogan but they were a fun read.

Chasing Fire is one of my favorites. Anna J Stewart's new series, Circle of the Red Lily is really good. Debbie Baldwin's current series, Bishop Security has well developed characters with strong romances and intricate mysteries.

Lisa Jackson, Karen Rose and Allison Brennan are three excellent romantic suspense authors! I’ve enjoyed each of them for years along with Nora Roberts…

You crack me up not in a bad way. You want more contemporary authors but you’re reading Nora Roberts old ones that are before my kindle. Though I do like Tribute I think if she’s an actress in that one. Read the books released in May in the last 5-10 years but start recent. Almost all of them have a time jump. And the In Death books are amazing. I’ve been reading them since books 1. The earlier books are a little, darker, grimier. Definitely the first three books to set up the world. And I my fourth favorite is Conspiracy in Death when she’s investigated by the iab … and the ghost one released this last November was so good but it does end in a cliffhanger, is most like a trilogy, to be released the next 2 Novembers.

Some of romantic suspense books I recommend are the ghost illusion by Kat Martin, deadly secret series and against all odds series by Elisabeth Naughton, the land where sinners atone by VF Mason, the viper by Amanda McKinney, Roma royals duet by Callie hart, martinis after dark by Gina Drayer.

Seconding KU/ more current romantic suspense recs! Nora Robert’s is always my first thought, and I will throw Montana Sky in the ring as a must read bc it was my first romantic suspense (and first romance novel) ❤

The best romantic suspense I have read is Reasonable Doubt by Whitney Gracia Williams. The plot is beyond incredible! Love the spice I have been searching for something similar to Reasonable Doubt for a while but didn't find anything.

You should check out "Guilty as sin" by Rosalind James. Please ignore the ugly cover because you're going to love it! The heroine is a detective. She changes places with her twin sister and goes to live in a small town where her sister lives and she has been getting threats. There she meets her sister's grumpy neighbor who is also ex military. Together they try to solve the mystery of the threats and they fall in love by the end.
