And here I am after years and years of blast beats, double pedal patterns, meshuggah stuff and 3 recorded albums of death metal learning the subtleties of ghost notes and shuffle grooves.

Great challenge this one on triplets with that shuffle feel. To get the booms spot on, I found that just slowing your uTube video to half speed worked best for me…….and yes, we still love you! Peter

Not that I’m much of a teacher, but when I’ve worked on basic sticking and rudiments with folks, not many grasped the purpose of the paradiddle. THIS however, will be my proof to them how useful (and fun) it is.

I've been playing drums for... How long now? 23 years or something? And even the paradiddle-diddle groove had me figuring it out for a minute or two. Like of course I know the rudiment itself like a second nature, but I honestly never ever thought about making it a triplet groove. Feel kinda embarrassed by that, but there you go. I'm not even going to try the para-paradiddle right now and DEFINITELY not the inverted doubles one, but I am sure as hell practicing those in the coming days and weeks. All of them sounded surprisingly great with the inverted doubles groove being a no joke jaw dropper. It's not every day that I find something on KZfaq that's THIS simple idea-wise, but SO challenging execution-wise. Love it. Thanks for this.

Those are challenging! I got the first two down ok, more or less. The third one is harder than frozen apples! After some fumbling around, I got so I could play it slowly, but it's tricky! That one needs some work. These are good exercises for anyone who wants to get over the tendency of the right hand and right foot to play together. Sometimes the right foot and right hand are playing together (easy) but then two beats later the right foot is playing with the left hand. Also, sometimes the right foot is playing on unaccented ghost notes. That's tricky too.

As I was watching this, I enjoyed it it made me smile, but also is the way you’re teaching the lesson you’re giving is confidence you telling us don’t rush yourself slow down and take your time that’s what I got out of it and also sometimes we make mistakes we all do even you did in the video that’s what you were teaching & and also you’re a really good teacher you motivate us and also the way you were showing how to do that it was really cool and it sounds awesome yes rudimental who some people take rudiments for granted and also rudiments can you use around the drum get so much like you were teaching us. I appreciate that.

Ewwwwww SNAP! These are definitely going to be fun and challenging. I just started learning the Purdie Shuffle, (YES, I’ve never played it hehe), so this little lesson is going to fit right in. You played this so well Mike. Your ability and hard work that you’ve put it makes these difficult grooves sound incredible and easy to play. Strap on your seat belt my fellow skin slayers. These are going to take some time. 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼

Hey Mike! Awesome way to present these! Isolating parts of the groove! Thanks for sharing your approach. It really helps me as a teacher (and I’m still a student too! 😉) Ok one question off topic… What’s your current cymbal setup? Is that your signature pack? I’m thinking of getting a set for studio. I have very complete Paiste and Bosphorus cymbal sets but really love the sound you get with Meinl!
