Thanks for the video. One addition which made me switch from ew-D to ew100: In Advanced you can choose RF Mute instead of AF mute. This means that in case of 2 transmitters (guitars) in use, you can switch between those transmitters using the mute switch. Whereas there is no way switching between 2 transmitters without having to always turn one off. There is a long time to go to switch off a transmitter when you quickly want to swap guitars e.g. after a string broke

I recently got the EW-D from Sennheiser and really LOVE the bluetooth functionality they put in there. Firmware updates and syncing is such a breeze. I've been trying to find something like this for an IEM but pretty much all of them still rely on using infrared interfaces. Updating the firmware on a bodypack through these is kind of annoying and after experiencing how things could be with the EW-D I really don't want to go back. I hope that Sennheiser will update their Evolution IEMs in the near future, doesn't necessarily have to be digital, but I wouldn't mind it. Their newer products all seem to use bluetooth, none of their IEMs though… would love to be a fly on the wall at Sennheiser HQ these days to see what's in store.

@@ScottUhlMusic Yep, firmware update the receiver and bodypack just by using the App on the phone. Smoothest updating experience I ever had on a device like that. And the app is not mandatory to use the hardware (which is a pet peeve of mine when manufacturers do that). It's a really good piece of equipment. I hope you get your hands on it at some point. Thanks for your detailed overview! Question about the squelch feature. Why do you set it lower when you’re setting up and then medium/higher when you’re playing? What’s the best setting to prevent that white noise from occurring? We use these for wedding ceremony AV. Lapels and handhelds.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. And I honestly am not sure I’m doing it correctly. But I scan for the clearest channel with the squelch all the way down… so that it finds the channel that has zero signal. Once it finds it, I turn the squelch up just in case it’s going to give that white noise sound. That squelch is just the safest way to prevent that white noise sound. Again, I’m honestly not positive if I’m doing that correctly. But it’s the way I’ve done it for the years that I’ve used this system. If anyone does have a better idea, let me know for sure 👍

Why these over the Shure equal? These videos are very helpful Can you do this with a Shure one?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
I love Shure products, and the QLXD and ULXD have a little less frequencies available (470-534mhz vs the sennheiser ew 500 which is 470-558mhz). So the sennheiser already wins at that point. Plus the fact you can see the RF strength on the wireless receiver is a huge plus. Again, I love my Shure products. But you get more frequency range with the sennheiser for less of a price. That’s why I like it

Hi again Scott This time I have got another tech question for you, regarding your portable IEM-of-choice, - the Sennheiser system. Here I am not talking about the regular “stereo-box-version”, but instead the “mono-portable-bodypack-version”, where you use a regular bodypack transmitter. It seems to me that you simply plug this into a mono AUX-OUT (line level) in a mixer, - with either an XLR or a Jack connection. It also seems to me that you don’t use an attenuator/DI-box and you never don’t mention the adjustment of sound level from line level to mic level, and yet your portable bodypack works and transmits perfectly fine. The Røde wireless GO II is capable of sending a stereo signal and I was considering this as an alternative portable IEM option, to get a stereo IEM. However, in the video clip below, another youtuber mentions the need for an attenuator (and a DI-box) in order to not harm the electronics when connecting the Røde Wireless GO II to a AUX-OUT (line level) in a mixer. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ja2UprRyyb7SZJc.html How come you don’t have the need for attenuator and DI-box, when you are using your Sennheiser bodypack transmitter as an IEM-system? Also, how come you don’t have to adjust for the difference between line level and mic level in the Sennheiser bodypack transmitter, when connecting the bodypack to a line-level AUX-OUT? What makes up the differences? Best regards…
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
With the behringer xair systems, I never have had to adjust or use an attenuator. I do turn the SPK sennheiser down to -36db. However, I’ve done a show where I needed to just get a click track signal from an iPad, and it was WAY too hot and in that case I needed an attenuator. This is the one I use when I need it: amzn.to/2XqReAA but other that that, I’ve never had to use it. Either with my Behringer mixers or my TC Helicon Voicelive or out of my Helix or HX Stomp

Hey Scott. Great job on doing reviews for those wireless systems. I watched all of those, but there’s one thing that is very important to me and that was missing on your reviews is using 2 transmitters with same receiver. I’m a bass player and have 2 basses on stage and lots of times I need to swap them very quickly. What are my best options for doing that? I read that Shure GLX-D can connect with 2 transmitters but in order to achieve that, I would need to switch off one transmitter and switch on the other, but there’s no chance for me to do that as sometimes I need to make that swap in 5 sec or so. Also I don’t want to buy 2 separate receivers for every bass if there’s other cheaper way to get what I need. Are the dual receivers my only choice and what happens if I won’t turn the bass and transmitter off and swap to other one with second transmitter? Technically the first one still be producing sound if hit accidentally, right? I guess you might have same issue in your band if you’re using 2 or more guitars for instance, so might already know the best solution for that. Also what reliable dual receivers you would recommend if that’s the only option for me? Appreciate your comments on my issue.
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 2 жыл бұрын
That’s an interesting setup… I honestly don’t know if there is a system that does that. Not that I’ve heard of anyways. So I would go with a dual system, and the best quality one at an affordable price would be the Shure Slx D because it has a dual system setup that lives in a 1U rack space. If it’s THAT critical that you do not switch on and off the wireless, that would be the route that I would go 👍 I reviewed the SLX system here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7ynf8xou7y2l4U.html
@jazzrena
@jazzrena 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for prompt reply. Appreciate your advice. That’s what I’m leaning towards now, but just thought that it may be some setup or trick, that I don’t know yet ;) If there won’t be quick bass swaps, I might have some more options or even use same transmitter on each bass, but because we run lots of things on backing tracks and lots of them are interconnected, I don’t have luxury to stand around without doing anything lol. If being honest, I even don’t have time for water drink till nearly the end of the set, when they decide to do one acoustic song lol.
@Marshallstclair
@Marshallstclair Жыл бұрын
I have the same need. Reading this it seems that the only way to do this would be to take off one bass, flip open the transmitter, turn it off, turn the receiver connected to the other bass on and flip it closed and load up. Am I understanding correctly? I suppose another option is to wear the transmitter on my belt and unplug the bass, unload/load up and plug in the other one...

@@ScottUhlMusic OK, Scott so the latest instalment in the wireless saga is as follows. This morning I took the BOSS WAZA TAE attenuator I was using out of the equation, and no problem with the wireless. No squealing on any gain channel in any mode, and I could add drive effects which only created the kind of feedback you'd expect. So what do you think the WAZA was doing, and is there a work around? On the basis of this discovery using the WAZA requires a cable, without I can go wireless. Does this make any sense to you? If nothing else it may well add another level to understanding wireless if interacting with these new pieces of gear causes issues people haven't encountered before.

Very glad to have found this video - Kudos. I'm saving it to use when I get to set up the one I'm about to buy. Hope you don't mind a series of questions (1) Any reason to front mount the antennae in a rack vs. leave them nestled in the back with the rest of the equipment pointing horizontally away from you? They sell a $50 front mount kit (2) Do you use the $85 battery pack or feed it AAs forever? (worth it?) (3) The 100 has different frequency range options to choose from - how to pick? (4) I suppose choosing and using a wireless inears system (brands/frequencies) has nothing to do with selecting guitar wireless but gotta ask. I'm in the market for that as well. (I'm about to hit the road with a tribute band and my 'character' does a lot of roaming... :-)

Hell I’ll likely feel like I should be giving you shout credit at gigs somehow once all of this is humming. (1) I have dreams of setting up the ew100 receiver and an ew300 IEM next to each other in the single rack space I can make available in my rig but will this work if I bring all 3 antennas (ha I looked it up and antennas is correct - these things aren’t bugs!) to the front? It doesn’t seem as if there is space…. (2) from your videos I think I can do this - can I?: AF out from ew100 wires to input on my pedalboard. XLR output from sans amp at end of my pedalboard goes to the house. 1/4” out from sans amp wires to left input of ew300. Monitor feed goes to right input of ew300. Left ‘loop out’ from ew300 goes to my amp. I can pan my in ears receiver to get mix of me and the band at any % I want. Or I could pan all the way to left and take out one earbud and get ambient band and always enough of me wherever I stroll on stage. Little to no reliance on negotiating with guy at the board about monitor mix. Will maybe want bass to come out of monitor mix entirely who knows.

Hey Scott, in looking at the less expensive offerings in wireless, I ran across the Sennheiser XSW 1-825 DUAL. Have you gotten to test it?
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic Жыл бұрын
Hmmm interesting. No I haven’t seen that one before. Seems like a great price! Only 10 channels available though. So it will be a little limited. It costs more to get more channels and therefore more reliability

Already did 🤘 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fJyefricy7i9c6M.html but I definitely recommend this sennheiser one instead. Or the SLXD (video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7ynf8xou7y2l4U.html) or QLXD (video: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/itWjpMWTuJecf6M.html) over the GLX. Hello Scott, I have one question. I have Sennheiser ew100 g2 portable version with the small body packs, and wanted to use with my electric guitar but a problem ocurres. When Im changing pickup positions its cracking, and when I try to turn down the volume pot its rustling. Any suggestions from you experience. Thanks

@@ScottUhlMusic Thanks to you and your video I saved bunch of money, was planing to sell the g2 and buy a new one, it was the cable causing the problem. Resoldered and the cracking is gone, and the tone and gain comes to live. Cheers man😁

so the yellow light on my transmitter keeps lighting up when I play and the meter on the receiver goes to Peak. I've tried adjusting the sensitivity on the transmitter and if I take it down so far enough to stop the yellow light from coming on it's too low for may noise gate and kills the guitar. Is this even a problem for the yellow light to be blinking on?
