It's so nice discovering KZfaqrs you happened to stumble upon are also huge Gaiman fans. I first read him back in 2012 or 13 and I've been in love ever since. Ocean is definitely my favourite of his works - it feels like a warm hug from a father after a bad day. I'm so glad you're loving him so

Once you start reading Neil Gaimen, you can't stop. I recommend Neverwhere. I've lost count of how many times I've read it.

Anne of green gables is a classic! I just re-read the third book and it brought back memories. In Canada, Anne of green gables is taught in our school curriculum.

Which province? Not here in Saskatchewan, unfortunately. Thankfully our parents got us into Anne books when we were children.

That's so cool that you got to read it in school! We don't have any books like that in Australia (that are as widely loved, and set in a local setting)

i read the anne series over 2019 and i absolutely loved it, it was so interesting watching anne grow and mature. And even as she got older LMM never stopped with the detailed descriptions of her surroundings which was something i really appreciated :)

I loved it so much! She grew up so much, but it always felt so realistic and in character. It was brilliant 😭

I love this video! Now I have a bunch of new books on my tbr list. The best books I read this year were the entire Renegades series by Marissa Meyer. Highly recommend! 🌻🌻

Hello Christy, my favorite book of 2019 and maybe of all time, is The Count of Monte Cristo. If you like Neil Gaiman, i would recommend to check Terry Pratchett. All the best.

Since you love mythology and Neil Gaiman, I highly recommend American Gods! It's much darker than his other books, but it's a fantastic read and one of my favorite books.

Fun fact: I started reading Gaiman in 2019 too and read exactly the same of his novels and they're all on my favorites list as well. The ocean at the end of the lane was so amazing, I still think about it months later!

I don't know if you've ever read Sarah J. Maas's A Court of Thorns and Roses series, but it's seriously my favorite series ever, and I've read a TON. I absolutely loved it and haven't stopped talking about it for months. You should definitely check it out! 😊

I think I need to reread The Ocean at the End of the Lane because I don't think I quite get it. Maybe I'll listen to the audiobook because I just love hearing Neil Gaiman's voice lol.

Hey Christy, thanks for sharing, I read 3 of those books this year too.. i would like to read everything under. Also could you tell me where to buy or borrow/books in Tokyo Japan, I can't find a single store where they sell English books.

Oooh yay. i love Daikanyama T-site. That has a MASSIVE selection. But the book store I spent the most time in was in Shinjuku. I think it was Kinokuniya (which ever one is above Nitori Shinjuku, on the Eastern side of the station). Tower Records Shibuya also has a really good English books section. Some Book Offs will have a small second hand section if you're wanting cheap ones (especially Shinjuku and Ikebukuro) 😊

Definitely Sapiens and Homo Deus by Yuval Noah Harari. Also Educated by Tara Westover.Brilliant books. Couldn't put them down.

It probably depends on your kids' attention spans. The books are quite wordy, but with simple language that sounds really beautiful when read aloud. That being said, it is a picture book. I just gave it a quick google, and it says 7+ 😊 Probably a similar age level to Dr Seuss books. hope that helps!
