Spent 5 years in Portland saw railway converted to standard gauge Still no rail station when I left and there were around 40----40 empty shops in the two main streets The water is so mineralised you have to use a filter before drinking

my parents decided to move us here from Geelong when i was 15 at first i hated this place as i went from living in the city where we had more opportunities to a small town that has bugger all opportunities..but then as the months went by this place started to grow on me!!

Hi from Deb in Fort Worth, TEXAS USA. Back in 1967-1969 we lived in Australia....my dad worked on the offshore oil rigs. Our first year was in Portland! I still keep in touch with our neighbors from there to this day. We would ride bikes all over- go to the lighthouses (back then we played inside them) Also there were these underground bomb shelters on the cliffs that we would go into and play for hours. Hang out by Captain Cook's place and spent lots of time on the warf and on the beach. Back then they had paddle boats & we would hang out for hours on them and just enjoy our time on the beach. MANY fond memories!! My dad took us somewhere close to Portland to watch the penquins mating one night- it was magical! We moved later to Mulgrave (suburb of Melbourne) but I still cling onto the memories of our time in Portland

What a wonderful video you've put on for a display of our wonderful town, thank you.It's a wee bit faster than I like, but I can go back to have another look, I was trying to noisey into the background more, that's why. I will be "sharing".

Thanks Diane, Thanks for the feedback. As a KZfaqr my goal with these videos is to create that sense of pace and that you need to pause or watch again to catch everything, so that is perfect, I just had so much that I wanted to condense into 8 or less minutes!

I just love portland..travel there from 2016, 2017, 2018,2019. It looks like this year is going to be a no no. Just love the driving from warnambool to portland with stop over in fort fairy for a fish and chips. Driving from portland to cape bridge water is quite an experience. Retro motel is always my choice even though my wife's house is at flinder street. Just love portland, nothing else matches this little town. Oh yes Canadian Rooster my favourite food..

Great Video Jacob, Used to live in Portland when we were first married...a long time ago, Loved the four years we were there but my wife got sick. Most of it was sorted in Portland though. If you get involved in the community it supports you. I was involved in the SES, 3RPC, Scuba diving and the Apex club. It is what you make it . I would like to come back down from Melbourne one day, permanently . I bought my first house in Garden St Hasn't changed a bit in 15 years. Good luck with the Sports Science. God I'm pining for Bridgewater Bay My favourite spot still !!!

Portland is ok. few not to positive things worthy of mention. Permanently windy, mixed with spitting rain its pretty awful in winter, very dry in summer, very flat, real estate market is dependent on two industries, weather bounces around a lot, quite a lot of snakes in summer, bit boring if honest, run out of things to do quickly. good place for families but there are honestly better towns out there much as this comment will upset the locals.
@vbtcoach2 жыл бұрын
Maybe thats all true, but you can only grow up in one town for all of your childhood so...
