they do use a real cat sometimes, like when salem got sprayed and ran off, that was a real cat. They use a puppet for when he is talking, If he is just doing normal cat stuff they use a real cat! :)

I love Salem the cat...Nick Bakay, his voice actor, is from Buffalo, NY. I also have a cat who looks like Salem...I pretend he's Salem's distant relative :P
