Comes with the territory, but this one hurt me a little inside. I'll let you know total damage estimate and repair cost as it progresses. 1st accident in 8 months.

I turned down an offer of $15k over (400k) that market was higher at the time. Bottom fell out of it at some point, i appreciate the joy you seem to take in thinking I got stuck in a car I didn't want. I still will be getting a 458 for a personal car once I ultimately get rid of the 488.

Ha, if you knew 95% of the exotic rentals are purchased by wholesalers and sold as clean cars with no rental history. Only ones that realize the value loss of the car being a rental are reputable rental companies. Most of them register cars under a dozen other companies and themselves don't sell them as prior rentals.

We had a 350Z come into the body shop years ago. Within the 1 year of them being out. Guy was rearended and his chew spit bottle exploded all over the interior. From the headliner to the floor and everywhere in between, including down the dash vents. It was disgusting!!!

John Doe no. Totaled would be totally unable to drive at all. The Ferrari looks like it needs some simple body repairs and mechanical issues. I’m sure it still runs and drives.

L-Do R A lot of renters don’t want their “supercar experience” to be recorded. Because, you know, if you spend the money to get in the seat of a Ferrari, you’re gonna drive it like you stole it from time to time (hopefully safely, without any people around or with a big ass soda in your hand).

Pretty sure a dash cam would noticeably decrease the amount of rentals per month, unless customers were offered $100 off per day or some other decent incentive. I sure as hell would look at other rental places if I was aware that a specific rental place installed dash cams on all vehicles.

I know this guy who crashed my friend's Maserati SUV. It was parked in a parking garage, he turned it on and drove it straight into a pole, he said the air came on, blew in his face and he couldn't see. I agree, never heard a crash story that wasn't bullshit on some level.

@@bugsy791 Have you ever been in an accident and had to claim insurance? Let alone deal with another driver's insurance using a rental? Rob won't even be able to begin repairs until the insurance appraiser examines the car (you can't change its state of condition until the appraiser visits), issues the repair costs, checks the depreciation, and confirms all of the details and lost towards the rental business. That alone can take weeks. He won't see the check for months. Sure, he can start ordering parts but that will take weeks as well. It's not like they have fenders stocked up at the shop (even Honda dealerships don't have them). They'll have to order and paint them from overseas. Good luck 3-4 weeks. I'll bet Rob his spaghetti and meatballs that he breaks that deadline.

Po Russki Your insurance will cover this even if you drive an 05 Accord. Same as if you drove into this car in your Honda. Just because you were actually driving the Ferrari at the time makes no difference.

Yeah, more of a story with that left rear. Watching them pull it back into the shop there ~5:20 you can see it wobbling, so that's either the wheel seriously bent or some issue with the hub. Unlucky, but as you say, not the first time you've dealt with this type of thing so I'm sure it'll get sorted.

Yeah. I don't get this. Why don't new cars run cams as standard? I mean, there's a camera in the bumper in the front, one in the rear to help with reversing. Some cars have them all around the outside for a birds eye view. Just have them run 24/7 or just when the car is in use. Sure, they're not pointing from the best perspective, but better than nothing. You'll probably have to upgrade them to 1080p with decent FPS but what's an extra couple of hundred $ when you're dropping the $ on an exotic car...

Yeah. I was thinking that might have something to do with it. I'm sure there are ways around it though. Have it ship from the factory with all the hardware good to go but requires a software flash or something to enable it. At the end of the day, it's no different to the user fitting a dashcam which is perfectly legal.

Most likely alloy wheel is buckled. Not saying no other damage. How do I know? Years ago lost control of a car, the rear swung into a kerb - wobbly cracked rear wheel....

The rear rotor its cracked because he had the foot in the brake when the wheel hit the curb, is something i learned with my granddad, he was a mechanic, and he told me that if you see you will hit something with the wheel do not brake has that will cause even more damages. So as the rotor is ceramic luckily had absorbed most of the impact and left other stuff ok. The front bumper is easy to repair, for me the most expensive damage there will be the airbag, airbag ecu, door card and seat belt.

after seeing the rotor I see now why that airbag went off, bigger impact than I thought at first that takes a decent amount of force to do that.

Look as the car rolls into the garage 5:20 on the rear wheel something in the rear is bent as it is really off balance. Would say the rear end was starting to step out as the front clips or as they try to turn out of it and as a reaction accelerate causing the back slams hard into the wall which would crack the brake disk and at least upset the bearing and that second impact would be what triggered the side airbag. Woops

It'll come close to being totaled, and possibly totaled, if they find heavier suspension (wheel hub, etc.), driveline (half shaft and transaxle), and steering damage and an expensive shop quotes it.

Since the rotor is attached with several high strength bolts, the force to move it has been passed though other structural/essential components causing damage to them. Unless the calliper managed to grip the rotor and not let go that’s the only cause surly. Just shows how one small crack and add another zero to the bill.

the depreciated value will be a harder hit than the damages, was 380K then 300k now 200-225k ? highest mileage 488 now ?

body filler on painted surfaces, and repaint. since its a rental + even new parts a lot of the time they use a light weight filler on them so they should be able to make them look new. new air bag and door panel. new hubs, and any messed up suspension parts. cash the insurance check and then do the repairs by repairing the parts that can be repaired without replacing. pocket the extra cash. Or at least that is what I'd do as those scratched parts are not that deep and since it't painted areas no need to replace the panels but make sure the insurance company pays for new panels.

Spaghetti make sure they add the airbag ECU (NAB) into the estimate since it now has a crash event stored. Even if it's not locked it has diminished life from firing the seatbelt pretensioner and side airbag (counts as 2 "events").

From a business standpoint this can actually be a good thing. You get paid for the missed rentals. You will get a lot in diminished value now but if you hold onto the car for a while the actual diminished value due to the accident will be a lot less.

Cracking a ceramic rotor doesn't tell a lot about how hard the impact is. I used to have a 997 turbo with the first generation PCCB. I cracked one front rotor just because I hit a pot hole while driving normally in rain. Not sure how much the ceramic rotor tech has evolved over time, but just let you know, it could be just the crack but nothing worse.

those rims dont look too bad, they could be refinished. not sure if its the same with supercars, but that front lip, mirror, rear bumper could be repaired, (at least that's what the shop im at would do, if the cost is significantly more new) those brakes likely would mean replacing the whole set, unless you can get by with just the rear pair.
