I mean, even when she got the chance she got pulled back in. Stepping up in a grandios way and turning into a primal right infront of THEE primal killer, screams intentional self destructional. But man what a miserable life she had. Beaten and abused her entire childhood, married underage to a violent abusive husband, sold to a brothel after he died to cover his depths with the owner recognizing she was already broken but ignoring it because it attracted so many clients, then being sent to service Garleans (who were even more abusive) to spy on them by her country with the increasing risk of getting her killed in a suicide mission as an expendable asset, to which she finally snapped and responded by turning into a double agent.

@@tenjenk I get the feeling that Yotsuyu returning with Asahi after killing her parents was her way of getting him to drop his guard enough for a chance at revenge; with a small knife vs his sword, plus him on guard, her odds at that moment were slim. She didn't hurt anyone else between that time, though that may well have been for lack of opportunity, but I agree that her posturing before and during the transformation was deliberately excessive to goad the WoL into putting her out of her misery. That said, if Yotsuyu decided that she needed to hurt some more civilians to rile up her would-be killers, it's not hard to picture her doing so as well... At that point she wanted vengeance or death, and did played along to speedrun her way to either conclusion.

After just finishing it , I agree. Though I’d love if she stayed Tsuyu and spent the rest of her life with Gosetsu.. But in the end of the day maybe realising all of the things she’s done she chose to die. But all in all it’s much better redemption arc than what I excepted, plus I cannot wait to see Fordola in the future.

I know its an old comment but Yotsuyu didnt get any redmeption! Thats the point of the story: to show of her tragic tale that led to her becoming a monster driven by malice and hatred towards her brethren in her country. She didnt get any redemption tho; story was supposed to make us feel empathethic for her, but it didnt make here redeem in any way, shape or form. Maybe in some way at the end she acknoledge her wrongdoings, but its not redemption arc tbh. More like: empathy arc xD

It's one of the reasons I love ffxiv, I feel like instead of punishing and executing "villians" they really flesh them out and give them a chance for redemption / forgiveness.

@@RoyalKnightish of course, i think she is a great character too, an amazing one, i just find disturbing that people wanted her to have a redemption, when enreality she was a horrible monster.

@@davidloya4691 Was she at that point though? She was a broken woman who simply knew she WAS a monster, once, and wanted to die rather than cause any more stress, grief, and duress to others. Yes, her old self had returned, and she abused that for a chance to kill Asahi. But more than anything, she wanted to be saved, Gosetsu showing up in her spirit-phase proved that. She simply accepted that she couldn't *be* saved, for if she were, it would only harm Gosetsu. So. she let herself be overtaken by the primal and died.
