Loved your comment about needing to crawl in from one end. It's totally crazy how hard it is to get a side entry on a bivy. I recently came close to giving up trying to find a swag shape in a bivy weight fabric. It's not just you. Doing it all in the head end is so inconvenient and cumbersome.

I've always loved the idea of a bivi but have never gone for it for fear of being too cold (I am a cold camper for sure!). Watching this makes me want to just bite the bullet and do it... you portray so well the image and feeling of being truly connected to nature, and this is a feeling I am always chasing. Thank you for sharing 20 minutes of peace and beauty with us all... this was so wonderful to watch :)

Thanks for this comment Chloe. I used to feel the exact same to be honest, thought people who bivi-ed were crazy. But I think if you know it’s going to be a mild night and you’ve got a good sleeping bag, the bivi does really protect you from the elements, I didn’t feel any breeze or anything in the night I was in a total cocoon all cosy. Was lovely, maybe could try first in the garden? Or somewhere close to home for a few hours first to get used to it?

I’ve got a bivy that I have to ‘scooch’ in from the small opening also. Some bivys do indeed have a zip all the way down the one side.. making it so much easier getting in. And a tarp over is always a great idea.. so you don’t get all wet getting in or out when it’s raining. And it gives you a ‘place’ to hang out under it. All good.

Hello Amber, new subscriber here. Only watched a couple of your videos so far but I'm liking what I see. I've been a "normal" tent camper for years now but more recently I've started playing at origami with tarps and using a bivy. I prefer the hoop ended type of bivy bag as they are less claustrophobic. It's a costly investment but my weapon of choice nowadays is the Big Agnes 3 Wire Bivy. Is that the DD 3X3 tarp you are using? You are already aware I'm sure but a myriad of pitches are possible with that. A personal favourite of mine is the six sided fully enclosed Hexamid pitch. That does a great job if the weather turns on you and provides ample space for one person, kit and dog; with room left over to cook. On a gas stove, that is! I'll stop before I seriously bore you. Just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying your channel. Take care.

@Globetrotter-1
@Globetrotter-1 2 жыл бұрын
There's no real need for a tarp if you're using a bivvy bag. Plus it allows you unfettered view of the night sky and stars. I agree on the red being too bright and a green or camouflaged sleeping bag or cover is far better for a stealthy approach. I'd also advise not to place a mat inside a bivvy bag, but better to simply lay the sleeping bag or bivvy cover on top of the mattress. During mild and overcast dry summer nights, there's not even a need for a bivvy bag and easier to lay a sleeping bag on a mat or sheet. During clear nights with heavy morning dew, use waterproofed sleeping bag or simply lay a cover over the bag. To avoid being overrun with night insects, spray some deet or other insect/spider spray on the ground around the very edge of the mat. To avoid being bitten by ticks or getting tick fever, simply eat some raw garlic and cashews prior to camping.

Almost bivvyd myself this weekend, but stayed at Cefn Coed campsite which you recommended a while ago Excelant 😁🏕👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Nice pine forest bivvy Amber and good for your first ever bivvy wildcamp. More to come as the weather improves. As for item descriptions etc. Maybe make 1 video, but explain what and where you use the items or use said item for all your types of camping.

Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Was it busy? Did you stay in a camper or in a tent? I want to go back there soon, loved it so much. Thanks for the comment Mike!

@@AmberinEryri sorry Amber was sorting out my camping gear before my tea.. It was quite busy, I met Adrian at the farmhouse which houses a new shower,toilets and pot washing block.. The more popular camping areas where taken, but there is a lovely gypsy wagon on the last bend before the farmhouse which no-one was using. So Adrian said I could pitch my 2 man tent on the wood chippings flatter ground where normally people would use that area for seating, firepits, sun lounging etc.. it was really nice and quite and I was visited by the free roaming hens 😁 I had a good wander round and noted the spots ide prefer for next time.. Nice circular walk from camp down to the Estuary then back up tracks to camp . Great weather.. cadair idris and the Bfg in view from camp. Would highly recommend if you want a quite stay and not your normal campsite. Great hosts.. Still in development and renovation at the farmhouse meaning No WiFi or Net connection at the moment. I'm definitely heading back soon, and may digout my bivvy setup 😁 I'm still unable to do serious mountain hikes and climbs due to spinal op recovery, but a nice camping weekend with easish walks will do me for now. 😁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿👍 You must head back with your partner or caddi I'm shaw you'll find a spot to park or camp. 😁

Yes we are definitely planning a trip back. Might do it mid-week to avoid the weekenders, like you said it can be hard to get a good pitch when there’s lots there. Beautiful walks around there, one of my favourite areas of Snowdonia 👌🏻 glad you had a good time anyways, and take care with your back!

@@AmberinEryri Yes, ide recommend a midweek visit if you can. There was campervan spots available as I walked around. But it looked like all the best spots where taken, as with the wildcamping pitches.. I really liked it, the quiteness, friendly staff, lots of walks and Dolgellau a 5 min drive up the road. Thanks, I am taking it steady at the moment.. All us hikers and campers love titanium, me I now carry around a few pieces in my neck since Xmas ACDF 3 levels Ouch.. 😁 But it was so good to go camping this weekend 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏕 New showers etc are really good, still not quite finished but ready to use..
