You should try changing what they are allowed to eat under the assign tab in food restriction to stop them from forcefeeding whole corpses and raw meat to prisoners.

Spike Traps are meant to be placed on walls and corners, because enemy pawns will prioritize walking along walls to have cover at all times. Put spike traps on walls, and they become amazing

The best part about Rimworld is how many stories it naturally sprouts. I’ve been dying to share some of mine I had a modest colony when this takes place. I had three people, minus one due to me sending him off to do work for another faction to raise relations. If I was any smarter than my colonists, I would have realized that sending off my primary fighter was a bad idea, but I am an idiot. Anyway, a panther decided to attack one of my animals. I got one of my colonists to shoot at it, and she managed to hit a shot. Unfortunately, the panther immediately switches to killing her, and because it’s a bolt action rifle it takes 2 years between each shot and she was a lousy shot in comparison to the guy I sent away. I have my other colonist try to knife it, but I don’t know what I expected from 3 melee skill. The panther downs the melee person before getting killed. I check on the downed member and realize, “Oh, they only have one leg now.” And the worst part was that was our medical person. After many failed surgeries (My colonist managed to somehow slice and stab the body while installing a peg leg) nobody died. Moral of the story: Dangerous animals are dangerous.

They always feed raw foods because you're out of cooked stuff And they prioritize not dying of starvation rather than cooking

After attempting to get basically all of my friends to try RimWorld and failing, I'm now living vicariously through you. I'm so glad you're enjoying the game! Playing without DLC or mods for now is a wise choice, as each DLC can be just as overwhelming as the game itself was at first, but without a tutorial. Definitely worth the money when you do get them, though.

Nutrient paste dispenser is a godsend especially for early game for freeing up a cook to do other things. 66% more food per sq foodage as well no chance of food poisoning. Just need to make sure theres always butchered meat or vegetables around which colonists will automatically haul to the hopper assuming they arent busy with something else.

Others have already mentioned the settings to allow/ forbid food types for colonists. I recommend you take the time to familiarise yourself with the options and additional options of the bills, starting with the cooking bills. You can set almost anything to "do until you have X amount, then stop until you're down to Y amount", for example. Other useful bill setting include "this bill is for this specific colonist", "this bill can only be worked on by colonists with at least skill level X" and "only use materials that are within this range". The first example makes sure you don't need to micromanage the amount a colonist makes, the second is self explanatory, the third makes sure only colonists that know what they're doing are working on that specific bill, and the last helps to keep your cook cooking while a lesser pawn hauls ingredients from across the map. Keep the videos coming, you're doing great 👍🏻

I highly recommend to rescue the daughter because some of the funniest stories in the game happen during missions like it. Also, cool video.

Little tip: you gotta set the butchers table and stove to the butcher corpses and cook meal 'bill' (task) to infinite, so that whenever you have corpses, they're immediately butchered and cooked instead of... y'know...fed raw to your -prisoners- future friends

Fun fact, and something that could be very fun if it's still a thing; you could train Boomalopes to follow your colonists when they're drafted, and more importantly, you could train them to charge at the enemy to start attacking them, and when they inevitably die, they'll explode in the middle of the raiders lines! Yes, you could essentially train yourself up Kamikaze Boomalopes. I dunno if you still can, but give it a go if you can!

you are able to set areas for your animals and colonist which with that you could keep animals indoors to prevent bonded ones from dying (effects mood if they die)

At the start of a colony you should plant rice instead of potatoes, it grows faster and can really help your colonists train their plant skills also have someone dedicated to cooking

Abandon the daughter and forget about all morals you need to eat everyone that is not in your colony and you also need to forget about your colonist's emotions because if they go berserk or throw a tantrum you just beat them until they stop

A small tip: You should block off every entrance point to your colony exept one. This will force all the raiders to move to one location where you can light them up. Get the best melee guy in front to tank for the others. Barricades only slow down enemies so its best to not even bother making them. You could find a youtube tutorial about killboxes, small rooms where you will mostly fight your enemies(unless they have mortars). They are the safest way of defending raids so good luck.

Welcome to the war crimes simulator, depending on the dlc's you have they can get truly dark. Nobody on the rim is "a good person" Some soft advice - Colony walls are your friend, especially with a choke-point entry way. Don't obsess over increasing colony wealth (if anything, ditch things you don't use! Gift or burn them.) Rice, corn, healroot go in fertile soil, potatoes and saguaro do not, letting insect hives reproduce will lose you colonies.

dunno if you already now this, but you can give manual priorities in the work tab, so a colonist will for example be 1st cook, 2nd hunter and 3rd crafter (and 4th, cant think of other jobs now)

I'm not gonna lie, I am in two minds about recommending mods. You definitely should get some mods like Camera+ and Stabilize, but once you realize how broken this game is, you can never go back to simplicity. So, download some super vanilla-friendly mods, finish this colony, however it ends, and contemplate spiraling into being unable to play the game without at least 250 QoL mods.

You should invest your time to build a kill box, it's simple for end-game, mid-game, and early-gamer

Why do you have the same thought process like you played RimWorld for years

Man I was really excited to see a new player's fresh perspective, but a mod to increase stack size is VERY far from "as vanilla as it gets". Stack size is a huge factor in game balance. Ogrestack in particular is the extreme end of this, it may as well be infinite stack sizes. There are more balanced mods for this, like ones that let you create storage containers. So materials, work, and time are a factor. I usually recommend no mods for a while so you can learn the game but if you're using something like OgreStack you may as well get a good 100+ mod list and dive in, skipping the base game. Cause this is most definitely not a vanilla experience.
