The Spanish Empire helped the citizens of the thirteen colonies with money, arms, ammunition, blankets and clothes, and eventually, with direct military assistance. As George Washington himself recognized, without Spain's help he would not have won the war. They were the Empire were the sun never set, my friend .

Beginning in 1776, it jointly funded Roderigue Hortalez and Company, a trading company that provided critical military supplies. Spain provided financing for the final siege of Yorktown in 1781 with a collection of gold and silver in Havana, then Spanish Cuba.[1] Spain was allied with France through the Bourbon Family Compact and the Revolution was an opportunity to confront their common enemy, Great Britain. As the newly appointed Chief Minister of King Charles III of Spain, the Count of Floridablanca wrote in March 1777, "the fate of the colonies interests us very much, and we shall do for them everything that circumstances permit".[2]

Same here. I was in DC for work some years ago, and on our day off we went to the same places. The Korean War Memorial is chilling in person, goosebumps and a big lump in my throat. My dad was a Vietnam vet, that memorial was even harder to walk through. I hope to go back someday.

My father -- who is a Vietnam Veteran -- took us to Washington DC shortly after the memorial opened, and I remember watching him as he walked up and down the big black wall full of names, searching for something, for hours on end. I didn't realize until the next day that he was looking for his own name.

Wow, nice video. Very professionally shot. It has been more than 20 years since I was in DC. It was a school trip, and I will never forget it for one reason. Our teacher asked us to find a name on the Vietnam Memorial wall. It was actually part of the assignment. We all traced it with paper to "prove" we found it. The "answer" to the assignment was that he had been our teacher's best friend in college and was killed in Vietnam at 19. I recall that all talking ceases in the memorial. All we could hear were sobs. I still remember this older lady crying so hard that she fell to her knees in front of a name and ran her fingers across it. I can only assume it was the name of her son. She was still inconsolable even after 40 years. We all had tears in our eyes. There were happier experiences, but that is the standout memory. It is also a reminder of how many lives are destroyed by war and how high the price of freedom really is.

Thanks for visiting DC -- not always a destination for folks coming to the U.S. It's a great city that combines a lot of U.S. history and world-class museums with a strong international flavor. I hope you enjoyed your time! Washington DC is great- free museums and monuments are great. But I always recommend visitors try something more local and off the beaten path too! DC is so much more than a national capital, it's its own vibrant city full of 600k residents. Excited you're going to a Nats game! Other suggestions: - Rent a CaBi (cheapest city bike rental in the US). Explore neighborhoods along bike paths. Biking is often the quickest way to get across the downtown area especially where metro doesn't directly. - Go into Rock Creek Park. A huge urban park with a zoo, 10+ km of paved trails, picnic areas, and wilderness. - If you like nightlife there's everything from clubs around U St and Adams Morgan to dining and breweries in Georgetown and Brookland or NoMa. - Try local restaurants. I kind of cringed seeing you go to Hard Rock. DC has many diverse residents and you can find world class Ethiopian, Indian, Chinese, Salvadorian, Italian, and more cuisines within blocks. - Take the metro! It's a great way to get around town quickly. Just know that DC metrorail is pay-per-distance, not a flat rate to board. Only tip is some areas are rather affluent and some are rather underserved, like in any city. In general, east of the Anacostia River is either strictly residential (not much to see) or a little dangerous. But everywhere else, for the most part, is safe and has something to offer.

Bonjour sweet Marie, a great first video of your trip to America. You're definitely taking advantage of your time. I hope you get a chance to ride The Metro system in DC. I'm not sure if you noticed, but the stones of the lower portion of the Washington Monument are a different color than those of the upper portion. That's because the monument was completed in two phases. When the second phase was started, the quarry that supplied the original stones had closed, so they had to get the stones from a different source. Stay safe sweetheart, and enjoy the rest of your trip.

I was born in DC, and I grew up about 15 minutes away and I always forget how much there is to do there! I’ll be seeing Stromae there in December (can’t wait!). I can’t wait to see your adventures in Baltimore! As I said in our messages, I am more than willing to give you a tour if you’re ever back around here! There’s a lot to love outside the Inner Harbor. 😊

Fells point, Federal hill, and Mount Vernon are full of great history and architecture!, nice places to walk around. Reservoir hill and Bolton hill have some of the best rowhouses imo but their also kinda sketchy.
