i have seen enamel pin sellers sort out all of their pins into A grade, B grade C grade and so on. and then they are priced based on the grade with A grade pins being the most expensive. just an idea!

If you're not comfortable selling them, even as b or c-grade, then take photos and talk to your middle man and see what they can do. I work with my manufacturers directly but put up your grading policy so people know what to expect for certain grades. When I have high defect rates, and I can't sell them, I talk to my manu and show photos and try to find a compromise. Other than that, I sell all my defects as seconds grade :)

The pins look great!!! I'm so excited for you! Most pin makers sell "seconds" or "B-Grade" pins for a lower cost - and are deemed "seconds" due to the issues you're seeing. Scratches, Under-filled enamel, Over-filled enamel, Lumpy enamel, Discoloured metal, etc, etc. It's a way for you to offload your inventory, and for people who might not mind a lower-grade pin for a lower cost. I think a good 30-40% of my pin collection are from "second sales." Also, Michaels cashiers don't have access to store inventory on their computers (its literally just the cash register software). Most other personnel have a scanner they walk around with and they can check, but it only updates overnight - so if it happens to sell during the day, it will still show up as in-stock. However! If you find it online - you /should/ be able to order it and have it shipped to the store for pickup!

Not sure if they do the same thing on the Canadian version of Michaels Website but the United States version will tell you which aisle of the store its supposed to be in if you select a favorite store to go to...its been so helpful this year when venturing into uncharted territories of the store and trying to find things I normally wouldn't purchase like who would of known the water brushes were in the scrapbooking section... :) Best of luck on fixing your pins.

I used to work at Michaels, about 11 years ago in the US. The scanners used to tell them if they had something in stock, either in the back or somewhere else. This might have changed because when I went to another location q few years later they couldn't find something and I just went to another section to look for it myself and found it. It may depend on how much the employees care about their customers as well.

I work at a Michael’s in the states and them saying they can’t look up an item is so stupid, like that’s half of what I do everyday. Everyone on the floor should have an RF gun on them that can tell them what the stock was as of that morning, and exactly where it is. 😂 unless Canada is THAT different from the US, but ya know, every video I watch where you go to Michael’s they have the same exact music playing as in our store soooo...

I'm sure after so long you know what to do with defect pins. BUT for anyone watching this video for the first time and getting into enamel pins, this is what you do with the ones that are a little defective. The ones that just have some problem you can sell them as "seconds" pins. Those pins would initially be cheaper then the good ones and you would put in the description that they have some issues. But there are people who will buy them despite the little problems because they would still like those lovely lovely pins. Good luck out there!

you technically can't look it up at a computer... but if they had just been like "oh lets just go to where it normally is and I can scan the barcode" and it'll tell you how much there is in stock, and how much is in transit (i don't think there is a way to get the date of arrival as far as i know though)
