My second foray into online speed puzzling came in the form of one of the brilliant Euro Jigsaw Jam competitions, run by Speed Puzzle EU. What a fun event this is, I loved it, and I can’t wait for my next one in June.
In this video, I show you my puzzle build, go through how it all works and let you know the results and how I did!

❤ great video! I'm really enjoying the Jigsaw Jams! At least with these Michelle can show individuals which is great to see. I also enjoy her commentary. With the World's they couldn't really focus much on many individuals at one time. But with the in person competitions I'm sure the adrenaline is running high, and that would help. Me too! I think it’s brilliant that so many more online speed puzzling opportunities are out there now! I also love the chance to try new brands (even though I got a Ravensburger this time! 😆) 😍 Yes, agreed. I had no awareness at all of the commentators at Worlds, but if you can hear Michelle, you hear the commentary about others, and she even mentions people in the live chat who are rooting for you too, which is a wee boost ❤️ Yes, I agree, there is definitely adrenaline pumping at the in person ones!

I only did one online competition, I was worried because it was silent for the first 35 minutes, and I kept thinking I lost connection. I recorded on my phone just in case, and the technology element made me think it would be better in person. Once people started finishing and yelling done, i was fine, but at the same time, i started telling myself to go faster. I feel that at the beginning, i was just casual puzzling. It would be good to have someone just puzzling beside me to get in the competition mindset.

I agree, it is definitely less intensive at home than in an actual competition setting. Even when there is a lot of talking, it still somehow feels casual 😊

Great video, that was a tricky puzzle! I've done 3 of the jigsaw jams so far and I enjoyed them so much even last weeks where I finished with 45 seconds to spare lol!

Faces can be tricky but at least you were pleased with your time for that. Not a puzzle that I would choose to do. Am I right in thinking that with live streams you don't always get subtitles? Good that you can keep your hand in with these online speed puzzling contests. I've only recently started timing myself but not going like greased lightning. I'm looking forward to seeing what the jigsaw will be for BOTYP4.

Yes, these ones in particular were not very well defined either, which added some difficulty. I Googled your livestream subtitles question. Apparently I can turn on auto captions for live streams. I have never looked into that, so I’ll need to give it a try and see. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, as I’d never thought about that in terms of live streams. Of course, once the live stream is done, it becomes a normal video, so you can use the subtitles in the usual way from that point, but obviously, then you’re not watching live. I shall do some research and try and get this sorted for you! Lol. I wouldn’t describe myself as greased lightning either 😊 Can’t wait for BOTYP 4 x

One question I wonder about is that online competitions seem to have essentially the same fees as in person ones (aside from World's upping their participation fee this year by quite a bit compared to last year). With it being online, does it feel that you're getting less of the experience for the same amount of money? Or is that not a factor at all?

I suppose for the fee, you do get less experience, but having said that, the cost overall is far less when you consider the cost of travelling to the in person competitions. Unless one is very local, it becomes awfully pricey to travel and pay for accommodation. So the British Champs entry fee, for example, is really cheap, but I have to go down from Scotland, so I guess it becomes a whole weekend trip then. The in person experience makes it worth it though 😊
