Hi friends! In today's painting time lapse, I will be sharing the process behind my first official gouache painting as well as some of my thoughts and tips about how to get started with gouache for beginners (since I am also a beginner hehe). I'll also go over some of my comparisons between gouache, watercolor, acrylic, and oil paint. Hope you enjoy! 😘

A little tip: You definetly want to frame your piece under glass! Paper is way more prone to damage than canvases or pannels and that's why either watercolors or gouache pieces generally go under glass. Also, gouache, as you mentioned, is rewetable and any type of liquid will affect the painting🤧 and lastly, even tho glass alone isn't enough to ensure protection from sunlight, gouache is not as lightfast as the other mediums so that glass will make a good job protecting the painting from fading too quickly:) I know that was long but the artwork is way too pretty to suffer any damage😍😭 I loved it!

Thank you for the tip! The actual original piece will be framed under glass, I just took the glass out to shoot the video/take photos because the glare from the glass was too distracting haha ❤
@longyarn4288
@longyarn4288 5 жыл бұрын
@@HappyDArtist - Might also want to make sure there is an air space between the glass and the painting. Glass changes temperature, watercolor paper and paint (which is what gouache is) attracts moisture from the air, which can cause the paint to stick to the glass, thus ruining your beautiful piece. Photographic paper does the same, which is why old photos get moldy and stick to the glass. There are "spacers" that can be bought to give the necessary air space, but most of the time it's recommended that precious photos and watercolors be matted. Good quality mats are acid free thus adding another layer of protection.

Soooo pretty. Painting the frame to match was genius. Once your paintings are completely dry, if you seal it with a thin rub of wax medium it will take away a lot of that flatness. Thanks for the tutorial.

Ever thought about using a sponge? Just a small piece of sponge you put in your palette that is wet and will make sure that the environment remains wet as well... In this way the paint never fully dries on the palette which gives better quality paint. Very easy trick...Try it out Shawna.

Hello. I just found your Channel and I am totally in love with your artwork. Just Gorgeous! I watched a gouache painting video not too long ago and the Artist said there is a way to glaze and protect your Gouache Artwork. There is a special kind of wax,I guess that you can rub over the painting and it deepens and Brightens all of the colors while also making the entire piece of Art Waterproof! She Uses DORLANDS COLD WAX MEDIUM She even demonstrated it on one of her pieces by scrubbing a wet paintbrush over it after the wax had dried. It looked Amazing! Hope this Info helps you out. Namaste!

I started with watercolor, and I accedentaly bought the acrylics instead of gouache box on arteza. I cant agree more that gouache is a perfect inbetween. But technically,, you can make acrylics less fast drying by adding some retarder. i will experiment with that soon as I literally just bought a bottle to try it out. I can't do oil. I got some oils in the scrawlrbox and I nowhere near have the patience to actually wait days for my painting to dry. I easily get sidetracked with other things too. Your art is amazing. Seeing that you seem to like gouache, I recommend you to try out casein. I haven’t tried it myself yet but I’ve learned from watching Proko and James Gurney that it behaves a bit like oils. Though it can’t be reactivated with water once dried(I think) unlike gouache, I think you might be able to enjoy that medium. Amazing artwork as always, btw! HMM! Gouache sounds like it might be the right fit for me, then. Because I love how fluid watercolors are, as well as how easily they are to transport, maintain, and blend. But I also like how opaque acrylics are. When I do a watercolor piece, I find that in order to keep those accents of highlights that pop, I have to switch to acrylic and mix it with watercolor. But gouache sounds like it is capable of achieving both of these effects! I'll have to check their prices see how they compare between decent acrylic and watercolors.
