Gotta say, listening to other people’s stories about their first jobs helps my anxiety a lot for my first job. Im starting my first job tomorrow and hearing this helps me a bit lol

When I started a new office job, I was the receptionist so I was supposed to come in first and unlock the place. I was given a key, all seemed well. First day, I walk in, alone, and set off a security alarm I wasn't aware of. I hadn't been told the code to turn it off, so I just had to sit in the car park, freaking out, and wait for the manager to arrive and turn it off for me. What a great start that was! 🙄 I left that job five months later. (The bit about not being told protocol for opening the store reminded me of this, so I thought I'd share. Great video!)

I used to work at a hardware store when I was 17. I got paid $8/hour and every single customer over 40 I interacted with seemed downright offended if I didn't know every tiny detail to construction operations and plumbing. So many people coming in and asking me to how I thought they needed to do their jobs at home. Bro I'm a broke teenager what do you expect me to have a engineering degree?

my first job was hot topic. i didn’t need it for the money, but because my parents wouldn’t stop begging me to get a job daily and the chorus of “get a job get a job get a job get a job” played pretty much incessantly in my head. anyway, that was pretty fun as far as jobs went. the boss/coworkers were all pretty laid back and we would all write stuff in the back room. the one downside is that there was this girl who would ask me to cover literally every single one of her shifts (eventually i had to refuse bc y’know…i had a life) and she took it all personal and decided she hated me because i wouldn’t cancel my plans to cover her shifts. anyway that was just a seasonal position so i didn’t last very long, but i did need the experience.

As a cashier I did not know we were timed, this knowledge is very important to me

Don't let anyone take advantage of you, if you let them they'll schedule you to work all day every day. I'm in college and i know my limits by now. It's hard to stand your ground but I know if I'm overworked I'll become resentful of my job and quit (and then be broke again)

I know your pain. Retail is the 3rd ring of Hell come to life on Earth. Recently I was forced to return to the retail salt mines and I hate it. So glad you got out.

I hated working at this big shoe store so towards the end when I was really sick of it if I liked the customer I would take the clipboard that has the discount barcodes on them and scan the highest one three times. :) This lady and her daughter got some 70 dollar boots for 20 something bucks.

Dude I honestly felt this so much, especially the customers being mean to cashiers part. I worked at McDonald’s for my first job and it was HELL, honestly it was almost identical to all the problems you said in this vid. I worked there for 9 months and had to quit because school was too overwhelming but I was unbelievably happy to leave that hell hole. All of my friends tell me about how great their jobs are and it makes me realize how shit my first job actually was, like wtf the McDonald’s in my town deadass needs to be shut down, where’s OSHA when you need them?

Okay but this is actually a really good video for people who are trying to learn English. It is spoken clearly, but has a lot of vocabulary about jobs which people might need, and the context is clear enough to figure it out. I teach English to pupils who don't have it as their native language and I use this video in my lessons. My pupils love it! Thank you!

I feel so unique. My first job was construction and so was my second job while my third was carpenter. My 6th job was, fast food lmao. After that I went to tipped jobs that while being low pay, the tips make it up and give you 4k and above a month with less taxes to pay.

I would’ve reported the broken fan as a safety hazard. Just like I reported the restaurant I worked at for not having a dish washer and instead throwing the dishes in a filthy tub full of brown water. Yeah, that happened. Power to the people!
