Well now that I can make my own decides lol I've decided to buy my FIRST PET! I honestly fell in love the first time I met him. There will be more blogs coming soon. Guinea pigs need a friend they are heard animals. Make sure to feed it unlimited hay, a cup of veggies and some fruits not too much because its alot of sugar. And there are so many guinea pigs in shelters. You ever wonder why in pet stores why they are hiding? They get the guinea pigs (and other small animals) from illegal pet breeders and they live in poor health conditions. The only thing I got from the pet store is a water bottle. Pet stores give wrong information on how to take care of animals. All the cages are way too small in pet stores. I got a $45 dollar cage on Amazon that is the length of 3 German shepherds. You can build it any shape you want. Its so much cheaper. And its cheaper to adopt than to shop at pet stores. You can get 2 guinea pigs for 40$ and 2 guinea pigs at pet stores is about $50. I recommend to get the hay and pellets and healthy treats from small pet select inc. Remember get them a friend because their heard animals. Also do research! Guinea pigs arent a starter pet! They require delicate attention. Buying animals from pet stores is just encouraging them to get more pets from from exotic bad breeders. I know what I'm talking about. No hate!😊 thx for the likes lol

Also for cheaper hay go to a feed store/ tack store in your area. They deal with horses more but you can get flakes of hay for cheap. Also if you want cheap bedding try fleecing it is a 45 dollar startup but it is so easy to clean. Look on Pinterest and youtube for fleecing your guinea pigs cage. Also, you need two they are a social animal like us. They need interaction other than humans.

Couldn’t agree more. Me and my girlfriend just got two piggy’s and got them the largest cage at the pet store. The clerk told us the cage would be good for a year as they are babies We didn’t like the size of the cage, we felt it was inhumane. We got them a large c and c cage from cave 5x2 feet thats rated for 3 piggy’s. It’s literally taking up a huge chunk of my living room but we don’t care cause we love them and want them to be happy

Statie Garey no, a human doesn’t give the same companionship as another guinea pig. No matter how much attention you give them it won’t give them the same relationship as they would have with another guinea pig. The only reason they shouldn’t be with another guinea pig is for either health issues or fighting or something. If they aren’t with another guinea pig they will become super depressed and literally die.

Ella Smith thank you. && he has a 8ft cage now. That was his first/second day with me. I bought him as soon as I seen him. I hadn’t intentionally planned on buying him. But fell in love. So I needed something to take him in ❤️❤️&&& Benny says hi🥰I’ll be buying him a buddy in the next month.

I hope you enjoy your first experience as a guinea pig owner. Just wanted to let you know tho you should stay away from feeding him any foods at pet stores with colorful foods in it and those “food mixes” their diet is 80% Timothy hay and besides that 1/8 of a cup of plain pellets a day. Also there are some fruits and vegetables that are dangerous for guinea pigs to eat. I can’t remember all of them at the top of my head but I would google them. Best of luck you’re going to do great as a first time owner!

Guinea pigs do need daily vegetables and this can consist of Romane lettuce, Kale, Celery, Cucumbers and a some small carrots

!? It sounds like your guinea pig either has mange mites or a fungal infection. Luckily both of these are treatable with a special type of shampoo. I would call your local vet and ask them tho just to be sure

Those cages are way to small! Get a c and c cage for half the price. Check out Scotty’s animals and la guinea pig rescue videos for all the basic supplies and care!!!

miya march I love how you did your research, but guinea pigs can’t eat nuts, or anything that have seeds, and they need a friend, and also when you get them DON’T PLAY WITH THEM OR BE NEAR WITH THEM! They are scared and nervous, you have to leave them alone at least for 3-7 days, if they keep running away from you, they are still scared! The cage is way to small, and please get him a friend. I feel like you didn’t do a lot of research, I hope you understand and don’t get that mad, we just want our piggy’s to have a great life! ♡

miya march but you need to have two guinea pigs. Guinea pigs are very social animals and no matter how much attention you give them it will never give the same relationship or companionship as it would have with another guinea pig. The only reason they should be alone is if they have health issues or if they are fighting with the others. If you only have one guinea pig they will become very depressed and actually die.

A lot of people are explaining the basics but I wanted to give some money saving advice! 1. Buying Timothy hay in bulk is WAY cheaper. You can buy a 50lb bag of Timothy hay at tractor supply company for $20 and it’ll last ages. It’s standlee horse hay but also great for piggies, just store it in a cool dry place and make sure it gets some air flow! If you can find local farmers selling Timothy hay or oxbow hay then go that route as it should be even cheaper! 2. I buy kiln dried pine horse shavings at tractor supply company as well. I get the white bag and it should last an 8 sq ft cage around a month for $5 a bag. Or you can use fleece/toggle bath mats if you can keep up with the spot cleaning and washing it (I personally don’t like this method but many swear by it) 3. Not a money saver but I would recommend oxbow adult essential pellets and it should be replaced every 2-3 months due to nutrients fading over time OR you can get some child life vitamin c and supplement so you don’t have to worry as much if your pellets last longer than three months. 4. Have a scale to keep track of their weight and find out how to do home health checks, the earlier you catch a potential problem the less it’ll cost to correct it. I had a sick piggy two months back where the first symptom was weight loss, but it ended up being really serious and she’s still recovering. They are really good at hiding illnesses and weight is a great indicator.

I have seen a lot of advice online that its a bad idea to keep a male only herd but since you have a herd I would want to ask you some questions. So I'll ask a few questions, but you don't have to answer them all, any answer is appreciated. First, are any neutered? Second, how big is the cage?(you can give dimensions or sq footage, or whatever measurement) Third, have you separated them before and if so how many times? Fourth, have they gotten into some pretty bad fights/arguments and if so how many(and how often)? Fifth, how old where each when you got them and how old where there cage mates when they where introduced(I am wondering since I've heard that boars who have lived together since a young age are less likely to fight when they go through puberty)? Sixth, are atleast two of the personalities submissive or non aggressive(I am wondering this since two guinea pigs with dominant personalities won't have the best relationship with one another and boars have dominant personalities often, so if you do have multiple dominant personalities in the boar herd how do you handle them?)Seventh, how territorial are they?

Care Fresh mats down, soaks up water and leaves the droppings on the top for them to sit in. There is a pelleted form of paper bedding that breaks down and mixes with the droppings and gives them a cleaner place to live. I had to clean cages every two or three days, and could go much longer with the pellets.

Almonds, cranberries, and the corn is not suitable for him and is not in their proper diet. The food you were buying is also bad, stay away from ‘mixes’ nothing with seeds or colorful bits, they need a plain Timothy pellet. The cages you were looking at were to small, guinea pigs need atleast 7.5 sq ft. Guinea pigs are also highly social animals and need a companion. Also need hay 24/7 :)

If anyone is looking for a decent guinea pig cage I would definitely recommend the living word deluxe extra large habitat, it is $127 on Amazon but it is so worth the investment. It will last you for years. I bought mine over a year ago and I love it! It gives 1-2 guinea pigs plenty of room to run around and has a remove-able plastic house/ feeding area. It is also super easy to clean because the whole top can be opened, which is my favorite part! Oxbow is my go to brand for guinea pig pellets, hay, vitamin c tablets and basically everything guinea pig! If you do auto ship on chewy it makes some of products less expensive. Also Benny is such a cute name for a guinea pig lol! ❤️❤️❤️ I have a guinea pig named polka dot who is 5 and 1/2 and she likes to give kisses! 😂She had a sister named coconut who sadly passed away in the fall. Anyway, Guinea pigs make great pets and snuggle buddies and I wish you and Benny the best!👍❤️❤️

You have to have at least two guinea pigs. Otherwise they can get really depressed and life isnt nice alone. No human contact can replace an another piggy :(

bro i’m so tired of people saying this. idec if i’m responding a year later but some Guinea pigs NEED to be separated. and not everyone can afford multiple guinea pigs. i have one single guinea pig and he is so happy. if you constantly play with him/her they will not be depressed. having one guinea pig is very possible.

Also if you cant afford to take care of the basic needs of a living being, you dont get to buy one just for your satisfaction and then neglect their needs and make them miserabld

It depend on when you get him/her you shouldn't take them out until atleast a week after you get him/her but even after a week dpnt immediately take them out, try to "piggie proof" the room and then open the cage and let him/her come out willingly, dont just pick them up as it can be extremely stressful. I know its hard to wait but it will help your relationship alot and help your guinea pig to trust you alot more. Make sure if you dont know what to do that you look up on youtube before just guessing. I find that the channel Little Adventures helps alot. Hope this helps

miya march Lol I love it they have some personalities lol, but they just want your love and attention. And yes once he’s used to you and his surroundings you can get him a friend. My babies names are the hamster is Bella, guinea pigs ... Coco and Cinnamon. I love them 😍😍🎄

1. Get a bigger cage please: C&C cages are the best! plus; if u did research, you should know that your cage is so small, that they wont have space to move, and if its too small, they WILL get bumble foot: SEARCH ABOUT BUMBLE FOOT. 2. they need to live in pairs! they will be bored without a partner, sure ha has u, but u arent a guinea pig so it aint the same :) hope this helped! also, try to previde them with: lots of toys and chews, LOTS OF HAY, and lots of stuff to cuddle in

I couldn’t hear all of the video but i saw the they love hay.... they don’t just love it, they need it! 24/7 its what helps them with their teeth growing. Those treats are very unhealthy for them, oxbow is the best to feed (pellets, treats, and hay wise) c&c cages are cheaper and can be made much larger than any cage bought store or the midwest cage that amazon sells (i had that rabbit cage at first and it is NOT big enough!), and most all piggys do best in pairs.

Awwww he is so cute! I know this video is old but I just wanted to let everybody who is thinking of or needs some help with there guinea pig. I got my first guinea pig last year. I didn’t know if I was even getting a guinea pig because I thought I was gonna get a hamster so I didn’t have much info on them but my parents caved and I got a guinea pig and did more research on what she needs. So a see a lot of people bathing your guinea pigs. It’s not good to do that UNLESS the vet said to. Also you should get them in pairs because with my guinea pig she was so shy and lonely until we got another one and they support each other and get a long well. So it’s good to have 2 or more guinea pigs because it is also easier then caring for just one. Also PLEASE IF YOUR GONNA GET A PET DO NOT PLEASE DO NOT GET A CAGE FROM THE PET STORE 99.9% OF THE TIME THEY ARE WAY TO SMALL ESPECIALLY FOR HAMSTERS! Unless it’s a fish tank those should be alright. They have some on Amazon and I had a hamster and his cage was huge so we use that cage at night for my guinea pigs or maybe road trips but in the day they have a big pen to play in. There’s plenty of good cages on Amazon! Also rabbit cages might work to. But also make sure there no holes because if you get a pen there could be holes or gaps your guinea pig could get stuck in and that’s not good. Also watch the food they eat there are a ton of videos on guinea pig care! One of my favorite channels are little adventure.

guinea pigs do alot better in pairs so I reccomend getting 2 piggies you will also need 160 inches for a cage but if you have 2 males like me you will need 180 inches

hey i did just want to let you know that guinea pigs are social animals and need a partner. also they do need a bigger cage to run around and have enough space for a hideout:) Benny is so cute!!!

Just go let you know, guinea pigs cannot live alone. They are clan, pack whatever you want to call if animals.

guinea pigs aren’t really “nut” animals. hamsters eat nuts. you should also watch how much fruit he eats. it is high in sugar, and they can’t handle too much.

Hi um I am not trying to be rude in any type of way but corn is bad for guinea pigs and pet store cages are normally to small for guinea pig. Best advise is not buying from big pet stores, but rather qualified breeders or adopt a pet. They will also give you qualified advice for the care and set-up :)

People are still making the same mistakes? This video wasn't published to long ago. No hate my friend but those cages are WAY to small for guinea pigs. Guinea pigs NEED to be in pairs or more. I know it seemed like you said in the video that you didn't intentionally get him. You just got him cause he was cute. Please do more research. Just spreading valuable knowledge to save a life :) C&C is perfect and cheap. 10 ft wide is perfect for two guinea pigs. So cages need to be big horizontally not vertically! I hope your guinea pigs (two or more) are living in a bigger not claustrophobic cage .

Try to avoid pet store cages there way to small and they do better in pairs so you should get one from a rescue cuz the pet store does not know the gender trust me and make sure it has a good diet I hope this helps 💜
