I have the Sundara connected to a Hiby R6 Pro2. Absolutely love them. Playing UAAP music app on the Hiby gives me a great sound. Yes the better the music file recording (24 bit and/or MQA) the better they sound. For the price of the Sundara they are a steal.

Had my Sundaras for a few months and they are the sort of headphone that make you want to listen to your whole music collection again. Agree with everything that you say in your review. I think I would describe them as analytical but definitely not in a bad way. However, I do find that they don't flatter a bad recording! I like a wide range of music from Mahler through to Goldfrapp and these are the only headphones I have owned that do equal justice to all genres. I guess like them.....

I've been thinking about picking these up to replace my HE-R9s. What do you think is a good USB DAC for these? Would the E10K work, or would the FiiO Q3 be relatively better? I mean, I don't listen to MQA music, but I'm wondering if it contains a better chip than the E10K.

I'm not too sure. I use the E10K, but the Q3 seems to be an upgrade... I honestly drive them from my MacBook directly a lot anyway as I am lazy.

Loving these videos. Glad you enjoy the Sundara as well. For their price, absolute bargain. Well, the 400SE's are for sale here for ~€160 atm so there's them as well. Would've been neat if HiFiMan sent a pair of them (along with a XS as well!) over for you to compare etc. Would be nice to hear what you think about more planars! Edit: Thanks!

Thank you! I got a couple of pairs from them... the 400SE may be one of them. I need to check. Will definitely be sharing more videos of them though! 160EUR is an awesome price though.

Sundara into the Topping L30 II headphone amp. Agree with the previous. Makes checking mixes reliable and it makes playing old favorites fresh. Detail, separation, body, it's pretty immersive.

I have Monoprice Monolith 1070 headphones. Also open back, planar magnetic. I got them on sale for 250 euros but full price I think was £400. Not sure as Monoprice UK and EU stores are now closed down which is a shame. They are amazing. I spent a while researching planars. Obviously looked at Hi-fi man also. Easily the best I have tried but then I haven't tried any other expensive headphones! Sometimes on a familiar track it's like listening to a new song! So much detail that wasn't there before. Beautiful. I just use a little Fiio BTR3 bluetooth thingy so presumably I'm not even getting the most out of these. Wired through something like a drop THX AAA amp is something I'd lke to try but funds won't stretch at the moment. They are big and heavy but somehow very comfortable and not at all fatiguing even after a couple of hours.

I think I remember you getting them before actually. They look real nice. I would like a nice fancy amp too, but alas they are sooo expensive and the benefit isn't immediately clear.

I'm a huge fan of my Audeze SINE planar-magnetics... just incredible clarity and immersion with a portable DAC. But I use them for *focused listening* and studying -- not over my ears in the studio for hours. Maybe if they went around my ears, rather than pressing against my ears. 😀
