Agree with you on the whole but make no mistake there’s still 18.1% of the Philippine population who live below the poverty line - that’s 20 million Filipinos and 3.5% of them are in Metro Manila. This means that of the 14 million living in Metro Manila, 1.7 million of them live as squatters who had left their provinces in search of livelihood. So there is still a high incidence of poverty everywhere. In BGC for instance you just walk towards the Kalayaan (Freedom) Road to find houses stacked next to and above each other like Lego toys. So the challenge for the government as it has been for several decades is to spread the economic development towards the provincial areas so that people there will no longer resort to squatting in the big cities. The good news is that the incidence of poverty versus 1980s has now been greatly reduced from 40% to 18.1%. It’s still the slowest in Southeast Asia but an improvement nonetheless.

And its not just BFC...

What he meant by "SO AMERICAN" is because American big cities are also littered with skyscrapers unlike Europe. America invented skyscrapers. Part of the reason why Makati and BGC look "Americanized" is because the Ayala family has an American in-law who helped built Makati the American way 😊

Poverty is everywhere even in rich countries. The Philippines is a progressive and modern country with rich in history and culture blended with East and west. Filipinos are very friendly and speak English. Sad to say that for decades foreign media tells only bad things about the Philippines. See for yourself the Philippines has world Class tourists destinations better than Bangkok, Bali, Hong Kong and the rest of Asia.

I totally agree with you. There's no other place not just in US but also here in Europe that can compare to the looks and vibe of BGC. Westeners are just jelous and think what they have is always what is better by default. Moreover they'll always point out that BGC is a small part of Manila whereas BGC is only one of the many CBDs around Metro Manila. These western vloggers are just so 2010, why dont they visit their own boring old cities, with snobbish, cold and angry people and play ignorant within their own home court? Alright, i know, i exaggerated😅 sorry

Agree completely with what you said, I actually think Bangkok is lacking something similar to BGC as it adds a lot of appeal and character to the city but Bangkok overall is better for cost of living, transport etc yeah

@@Ramfadora Yes exactly, the same as in Thailand particularly Bangkok and its suburb area there still muddy road with no electricity. alot of shanty houses along the rivers and bridges which filled with garbages.

No one calls the entire region simply as Manila. NO ONE. Always, it is METRO Manila unless they really are referring to that small city at the western edge of the region. You can start with the Weather news. Need more proof? Browse articles about the recent territorial dispute between Makati and Taguig. You will NOT find "Manila" in any of those articles precisely because Makati and Taguig are autonomous cities on their own and their dispute is NONE of Manila's business. The only time you will see "Manila" in these articles is when it reached the Supreme Court but that is only because the SC is indeed physically in Manila (Ermita) and not because Manila, as an LGU, had any say in it. Re the provinces -- I'm so tired of hearing this. Province people say "Manila" because indeed, the ports are in Manila (Tondo). They are not referring to the region. Speak for yourself.
