I was thrilled to see the Cathedral! My father was in Korea during the war. I recently found his slide pictures from his time there and have been researching to identify the places he had been. So far I have found three places that I know where my father had been. This Cathedral is one them, and Namsan Hill. My father never talked about his time in Korea and sadly has passed. My plan now is continue to research and find the locations of my father's pictures. Then in Sept 2025, with my son, we will walk in my father's foot prints to re-create the same pictures that he took over 70 years ago.

It's not all sunshine and rainbows though...yes the technology is great but there's more to life than that. It's the number one country for suicide...so not everything is great in Korea. Because you're a foreigner and not an actual Korean, you see/experience Korea differently.
@SunnySage122
@SunnySage122 8 ай бұрын
@@Dima-xu2qw I understand your viewpoint. I agree that Koreans don't place the same expectations upon foreigners as they do upon other Koreans, so yes, that can cause both experiences to be different. As an American, I feel the same when people from other countries talk about how much they want to live in the U.S. because they love the show "Friends." Having lived in other countries outside of the U.S., I often feel so disappointed with how things are here, such as the gun violence, the woke politics, the health care system, and lack of safety. Gun violence is a big problem in America. The gun violence problem in America probably parallels the suicide problem in Korea. No country is perfect. America works for some and not others; same as Korea. I know many Koreans who've left Korea for their own personal reasons and that's okay. I think the goal is to live where we feel we can thrive best.

As an African American, I absolutely love South Korea. I don't understand how some of my people were a victim to racism? I personally haven't experienced any scrutiny or racism in Korea. It's an absolutely beautiful country and I really want to live there one day. An absolute dream city. I stayed a few nights in Gangnam-Daero which was my most memorable experience. The night life, the people, the aesthetics the FOOOD (oh my god the food) and the atmosphere was something out of a movie, very futuristic and gives cyberpunk vibes. They live in a completely different universe compared to here in America. I love Sotuth Korea so much!!!

Most examples of racism cases I heard from foreign tourists are in fact not racism but misunderstanding the manners of Koreans. Of course there is racism in Korea, but it is subtle and it may happen at specific situations 😢 some Koreans, especially older people, have rough manners (when they talk or act), and foreigners tend to interpret the rude behavior as racism, but I can tell those rude people are just rude people and behave that mean way even to Koreans. A lot of times they don’t even know their behavior is rude. 😅

As a Korean, there are always many people who claim to have been racist in Korea when they watch overseas KZfaq. But if there is racism in Korea, it will be in the news. There is no claim of racism, and he always uses videos provokingly just as a victim. I think that's also a problem.

One thing I love about Korea was how intuitive and easy-to-figure-out the subway systems were. I caught onto it and got around everywhere I wanted to go like in a few minutes. I find the subways in similar systems like Tokyo were super confusing and I was getting lost a lot. Maybe I’m just dumb.

because Japan has govt owned subways and private company owned subways. It can be fucking expensive when you use private lines. Korean subway is pretty much flat fee. it takes 2 min for each station. So you know it will take 20 min for 10 stations. I'v never experienced a delay in my life because if it happens, it would be a national news and I bet employees will get fucked big time. Oh did I tell you it's a great place to fucking SLEEP? It's very chill during summer and very warm during winter. Everybody fucking sleeps. It's a magic you somehow wake up right before you have to get off! In other countries, people can't understand this concept like a caveman looking at the smartphone. They think I am lying if I talk about this WHY???? because in their country, people get robbed for sure if you sleep in the subway! Their general attitude towards foreigners is more welcoming and open than other East Asian countries in my experience. Also, Korea, like Japan, does not have trash bins out in public. Best practice is to carry a small plastic bag with you to collect your day's trash and sort it properly when you get home.

Zane! The korean alphabet is one of the easiest scripts in the world to learn how to read! It takes less than an hour to learn how to read korean! Sejong the Great had the script created specifically to make reading easier and replace chinese characters. Of course, you won't know what the words mean, but a lot of korean words come from english so you might understand more than you think! I highly recommend watching some youtube videos that teach you how to read this beautiful script.

The main reason why the metro is cheap in Korea is because it is heavily subsidised by the government which makes it its policy to provide public transportation to all at affordable prices. One thing I really love about Korea. I paid some stupid money to ride from the Heathrow airport to London in their grubby trains!

Hi Zane, welcome to Korea! During sunset or at night, visit DDP first and walk all the way up north to Naksan Park, following the Seoul fortress wall, leaving Heunginjimun (Dongdaemun, one of the eight gates of Seoul) behind. It's a beautiful and romantic place, which I highly recommend to try at night. Walk all the way to the observation deck 2 and descend towards Hyehwa-dong to get dinner and take subway. This is a very easy trail. Hope you enjoy. I love your videos! I believe what sets Seoul apart from other cities is its beautiful surrounding mountains, combined with the ease of access to them. Another hiking trail I highly recommend takes you to the summit of Inwangsan, following the path of the Seoul fortress wall (again^^). Along this trail, you'll be treated to a nice view of the cityscape and the opportunity to experience a bit of mountain hiking that Koreans love to do. Plan your hike during the daytime. I think the autumn season, with its clear skies, offers the ideal conditions to appreciate the natural beauty of Seoul. You can start the walk from the exit 3 of Dongnimmun subway station. Another suggestion is a visit to Seoul Sky, which is the tallest observatory in Korea. You may think it is just one of touristy places, but it's not! During the autumn season, when the skies are clear and visibility is at its best, it's a must-see destination! (If skies are gloomy and foggy, don't go) Make sure to visit during the daytime. And don't forget to take a stroll around Seokchon Lake at night. It's right next to Seoul Sky.

Someone may have already said it, but the chicken dish you got had rice cakes, not cheese. It's my favorite Korean street food. Sooo good! Beware, anything covered in red sauce is spicy, haha. There's this amazing place in Bundang (just slightly outside of Seoul) that is my favorite Korean fried chicken ever...but it's in my old neighborhood and kind of hard to direct you to. I'm not even sure that she survived the pandemic. But I'd be happy to tell you the address if you were interested. Edit: For anyone interested it's 봉킨 버거 in 정자 분당구 (Bongkin Burger -and chicken - in Jeonga, Bundang. This is on the red line about 15 minutes outside of Seoul. It's in the older neighborhoods on the other side of the river. Or at least it was. I haven't been back to Korea since 2019. I'll be heading back in the Spring and will see if it's still there at that point.)

I am going to Korea next year and I am BTS Army too!. I haven't been to Korea so many years that Korea is almost a foreign country for me now. You should stay out of Myeongdong area like most of foreigners do often make a mistake to visit. Locals don't go there at all cause foods overrated, very crowded, and much more expensive. Hopefully you can have a opportunity to visit hometown of BTS soon. Not only staying in Seoul, recommend to visit Busan - hometown of Jimin & JK, Jeonju - mecca of foodies in S.Korea, Gangneung- in which "The famous bus station from the MV Spring day".

As a Korean born and raised in Seoul (and has been living in Seoul over 50 years 😊), I have to tell you that Seoul is simply too vast to explore in a few days. Even for me (someone with over 50 years of living experience in this big city), there are some areas that I heard about but have never been to, or have not been to since 1990's 😅 -- that's how big and varied this city is! My advice is that even when you are mistreated (which could happen), or were not satisfied with the city (which could also happen), keep in mind that what you experienced in a few days may not be the complete representation of Seoul. Just like any othe big cities in the world (e.g., New York, London, Tokyo), there are dark sides and bright sides. FYI, the total size of New York City (according to Wikipedia) is 778.2 square kilometers (300.46 square miles) and that of Seoul is 605.21 square kilometers (376 square miles). But having lived in both Seoul and New York City, I believe that Seoul is bigger in terms of size -- I don't know how Wikipedia got such numbers 😅
