This became known as the greatest opera performance of all time. Many stars were in the audience, including Frank Sinatra on the front row. Pavs received a 10 minute standing ovation. He was truly the GOAT (greatest of all time). RIP

A small correction. This music is by Giacomo Puccini, not Luciano Pavarotti. It's Pavarotti singing it, of course, but he didn't write it himself.

Hi, Luciano Pavarotti was know as king of the high C's. He was a beloved Italian tenor around the world because he would also sing with singers of other genres. Luciano was considered the next Enrico Caruso. Caruso is considered the greatest tenor of all time. Mira have your friend who loves opera Google about Caruso if she never heard of him and also find more performances of Pavarotti. His voice will always blow your mind.

Tbh Pavarotti is far from being the best tenor or even just behind caruso. And remember that there is no "greatest tenor": every single voice in opera is suited for a particular role/ aria. Probably what we really can say about pavarotti is that he had the most beautiful voice in opera, it's always a pleasure to listen to him. But but when you get used to listening to a little opera you understand some of his limits. I'm not referring to this particular show, but you don't need to be an expert to hear how many times he's out of time when he's singing.. Btw he was one of a kind, really miss him.

Nessun Dorma is sung in triumph, with Luciano knowing that he has guessed the princesses riddle. Some 24 princes had tried before to win the princess, only to fail. The penalty for failure is death. Luciano comes, figures out the riddle, and this is the night before he is going to present the correct answer, and thus wins the hand of the beautiful princess. Incredible power and elation,

Not just killed but beheaded! He has answered all her riddles but now, as he (Prince Calaf kneels before her-il mio nome non sai ‘my name you do not know’ ) and he turns the tables on her. She can execute him if she correctly guesses his name. If she does not she must marry him. This is the point in the opera that he sings Nessun Dorma. The choir is alarmed because she has decreed that no one may sleep that night until they discover his name (she really does not want to marry!!) or they will be killed! She’s pretty bloodthirsty. I’m not sure If I would want this chick myself. But our Prince is undeterred . It is late at night and he can hear the echoes of the princesses aides as they seek to learn his name to save their skin-or their heads!! Calaf, convinced of his victory sings the aria! Pavarotti was not known to be an opera star but he made this song the hit that it is when it was used as the theme song of BBC’s coverage of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy!! It later became his signature aria .
