Its weird to see Gman in the flesh in that FPS documentary. I always thought he was some disembodied voice in the void that can summon video games out of nowhere.

I really love how much of a "Bioshock" vibe that this game gives off. It's like a mascot horror game and FPS horror game had a baby.

I literally spent about 20 minutes in the first Norman encounter just listening to everything he had to say while he was idle. Cracked a few cold ones for that experience. They really went above and beyond when it came to audio recording. Found myself doing the same thing anytime I found a new puppet to see the little differences in their lines. It never got stale. But I may have driven myself to madness because now whenever I hear any of the puppets monologuing, I can't help but speak along with them. Now THAT is good game design and audio engineering!!!

It’s literally RE but with an honestly great style and creative take on a sub-original premise. Love it. Could be a little longer, but that’s a completely personal opinion.

I’m all for more Resident Evil esque horror games. The RE games still have the best combat to puzzle ratio and still manage to be quite terrifying. The Beneviento section in RE8 still lives in my head rent free.

I really like the Bioshock and Resident Evil vibes My Friendly Neighborhood had. It feels like a call back and love letter to a by gone era of gaming.

I am convinced gman is my gaming twin. He always seemingly covers the indies i follow for months and buy on release. Another man of fine culture. Huzzah!

I knew this game was gonna be good from what the demo showed us, or what it didn’t. Instead of doing what every other game does and dropping us into the beginning of the story, we were put right into the second act, which left us with more questions than we would have from the beginning. Like “why are we here? Who are we playing as? What’s going on around here?” stuff like that.

After the playing all three Bioshock games I can confirm that this really seems more Bioshock 1 with a small bit a Resident Evil (the puzzles, inventory, and taping enemies down.)

I wouldn't mind more games like this, Survival horror without the horror. The ideas of carefully negotiating supplies and inventory space, Puzzles that really make you think and carefully searching the environment for secrets and supplies, While not being horror is a nice way for people who don't enjoy scares as much as others (like me.) to experience the mechanics that go into these games. Survival shooters could be a good name for the genre.

One thing that I admire about MFN is that it doesn’t try to be scary. Games like Poppy’s Playtime really try to scare the player and it makes the game feel generic, this doesn’t.

13:08 I felt the same way. I genuinely got joy out of helping them. It was beyond charming getting the good ending. It wasn’t a perfect game but I’ll take the heart and charm over this game than most major games these days.

Finally, a game where you can shoot those stupid animatronics that teenagers gawk all over.

I swear to god, this man specifically picks the best one-off references to the most obscure funny old videos that I feel definitely resonate with me. From tourettes guy, to weird obscure katana unboxing, to random old memes, that shit can always improve video quality by default lol. Solid review as well!

I finished beating this game on all four difficulties a few hours ago! Unfriendly was fun in how much it made me think but I *really* missed being allowed to fire guns by the end of it. Also Curtain feels like it's only fully possible with melee through a technicality, but I'm glad I got it eventually

Hahaha when you mentioned a show that we all remember from your childhood, my mind went right to the ferals aswell plus Ferals TV

2 guys made a game that looks great, feels great, and even has more re-playability than most triple A games released this year. That should say something to us, and it shows how we let big corpos get away with laziness and gash grab titles so much now. We've been used to the bare minimum with triple A studios so much that we've stopped holding them to a simple standard of simply releasing a fully complete and polished product. Pretty sad.

Reminds me of a stage-based horror game where the enemies only stay down for 1 minute (in the best case). You don't get anything to keep them down though (you could knock one down a well but then it's another protagonist's problem). It however had one enemy type that if you knock it out just about all the other enemies would be knocked out along with it (they will still get up, but it saves ammo and other fuss). Well also Resident Evil. Haven't played those quite as extensively though. Well I have beaten Village a couple times.

I got my code, really looking forward to starting this! I feel like this is the type of game that Five Nights at Freddy's should have been, judging from the premise, but I'm really happy to see that the gameplay extends to making meaningful decisions with your resources like with the duct tape.

God I wish we could get a DVD release of the original Ferals series.

I like that it didn't just go mascot horror, sick of those "games" existing. Feel like befriending the big puppets fits far more in tune with the general theme, and it sounds like it develops Gordon as a character too, as he's got some luggage to unpack as well.

i might be in just for the duct tape mechanic. the body burny mechanic in re1 remake is my single favorite mechanic in survival horror games.
