It sounds from your review that IBIS in X100VI does indeed rattle around a bit when the camera is turned off, is this correct ? My X-H2 and I think the X-T5 lock down IBIS when switched off. Maybe the internal space limits might have resulted in this difference ???
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk 3 ай бұрын
Yes it does rattle around when you move it
@davidthompson8153
@davidthompson8153 3 ай бұрын
Hi, good review but a couple of points. I thought the IBIS was 6 stops? and on the base of the camera the tripod thread has been moved to accommodate the IBIS mechanism. This could affect the fitting of some V version cases and L brackets. A number of reviewers have commented softness in the image with the new sensor, did you find the images sharp enough? I've ordered mine in black by the way, thanks.
@timjenkins8943
@timjenkins8943 3 ай бұрын
@davidthompson8153 yeah, these "reviews" gloss over any of the real negatives. matt granger's review shows that they didn't update the lens and it is doesn't really handle the increased resolution.
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk 3 ай бұрын
I notice a difference, not worth buying it or selling your old one over though. Re: IBIS, it's there, not sure the difference between 4.5 stops and 6, I was told 4. But it helps
@andrewcrossley2448
@andrewcrossley2448 2 ай бұрын
@@timjenkins8943 or you could take note of someone who owns one and has tested it: “The X100VI's fixed 23mm f/2 ASPH II lens and APS-C sensor do the same thing as a LEICA 35mm f/2 SUMMICRON-M ASPH does on the LEICA M11. The X100VI is smaller than an interchangeable-lens camera, and most importantly already comes with the one superior, fast, all-purpose lens you need: the extraordinary FUJINON 23mm f/2 ASPH II with the same sharpness and better bokeh than the LEICA SUMMICRON-M 35mm f/2 ASPH!” I think Ken Rockwell really knows his stuff and he’s owned all the X100 series. I’d tend to believe his very detailed and technically excellent reviews over ‘first impressions’. By the way his main gear is Canon but he has a liking for the X100S for people, mainly due to the fantastic film simulations. I’m also amused by all the DP photo commenters who rant on about focus speed and yet they don’t actually have a mk 6 in their hands. The go on about taking family snaps and how great their Sony mirrorless are on focus speed. Perhaps they’d be better with an iPhone 15 Pro for that…..

Did watch Matt Granger video and he stated that there is not much difference in details resolved compared to previous model most likely due to old lens design.

From a XT5 user ...this camera rocks the cazbar ....one thing though images will look sharper so that mystical grainy look won't be as present but can be adjusted ...the smaller battery isn't an issue...most X100v users typically aren't all day Shooters...they are people that take 20 to 50 shots ..upload and post. The sensor is awesome...again ask an xt5 owner 😮😮....well fome Fujifilm And lastly they had to upgrade the camera because if they didn't who would buy it 🙄.....if it was same 26 mp sensor no one would buy it 😅

saying that the dials/command are pretty much identical is just wrong. Matter of fact the viewfinder selector is much, MUCH worse quality now, and in most units I've tried they get slightly stuck after rotating it left, so they make a plasticky click as soon as you start moving them right. The button also feels cheap compared to the older model. The lens screw has an extra thread.

Its then same as V model and therefore excellent and better than the first 4 model. A very knowledgeable lens tester ranks it alongside a 35mm f2 Leica, so I’m not sure what more is needed. I use pro Canon gear, L lenses, plus Bronica MF film and the amazing Fuji 6x9 film camera that’s purely manual. Clearly that camera has a superb lens but I recall it cost me £1k + 30 years ago. So far more than the X100 at today’s prices. It only gives 8 shots a roll and so if you shot Velvia with careful metering and bracketing you’d get typically 5 excellent shots from a roll. Film is now so expensive that unless it was a pro shoot it’s no longer economical as a medium. As a wiser, and even older than me, photographer said to me a decade back - Treat digital bodies as a depreciating resource and write off over about 100k shots and it’s far cheaper than film. I was late into digital, maybe only about 2012 was it good enough for me (7D being my first serious Canon body - still works fine). My Canon 5D mk 3 is a superb camera but add one pro zoom on and it weighs about 2kg. Yes a £1k fixed focus wide angle on that will be better than the Fuji, but it’s very visible and super heavy for a day out. It also costs about lot more. I’ve ordered a mkVI for a forthcoming tour of China, mainly for street and candid work. I’ll still take an SLR or even my EOSM5 with a few lenses for nature, pandas etc but for me discretion is also important, especially when I’m staying in a couple of old cities where night shooting is an option. Horses for courses and the Fuji has its place. Looking forward to trying a few film modes as, guess what, I’ve predominantly used Fuji pro films for 40 yrs. Velvia 50 and Provia 100 remain the very best colour films. I’ve got some MF shots from India in my study printed on Cibachrome in 1992. The colours look like they were shot yesterday. In the end if it doesn’t cut the mustard I’ll sell if when I get home but suspect it’s a keeper…..

I had the X100v and sold it for a lot more once the hype train got wind of it. I liked the camera but wasn’t a 100% in love with it. Preferred the ergonomics of the X-T5 more. With that being said at that price I feel like you can buy a full frame camera now that is equally compact. The big selling point is the film simulation which all Fuji cameras have. Size it’s that much smaller again compared to other cameras.

However, all pro grade Apple stuff is assembled in China….and superb in build, as are Lenovo pro laptops. Audio equipment is a different story, Marantz top amps etc are made in Japan and weigh a lot. Even Canon have offshored their medium level lenses and they perform well. Looking at the materials and longevity of my 1988 20-35 f2.8L and 80-200 f2.8L, I reckon if they were made in Japan today they would cost $3 to 4K each. But they weigh a ton as they are metal. The X100 VI has a lot more tech inside that the V5. I suspect it would be more like $2.2k if made in Japan and have a 12 month plus waiting list. It all depends if you get out there and use such expensive cameras. The fact we have to stop and think about the photo were are trying to take with an X100 brings the planning and thought behind real work compared to snaps. I come from medium and large format photography where every shot costs a lot, so we took lots of care on metering and set up. Too many new mirrorless users treat them as a machine gun game of statistics on hit rate. Birders are the most snap happy….so don’t think they’ll be after X100 cameras.

@@DesignedbyKirk I’m not convinced! Send over the camera and I’ll make a video about comparing to my ZF!

@D.Trider oh the ZF that costs a bunch more and you need to buy lenses for it? Completely different style of camera. Compare it to another fixed lens camera... people aren't seeming to understand that.

Dude, cmon! *41 megapixel made a huge difference* Where exactly?? Show an example to support your claim, it's almost like words don't have a meaning anymore. In all comparisons between V and VI with 100% crop difference in the images is negligible, and I'm a seasoned pixel peeper.

Comparing my two years with the X100V I’ve noticed a huge difference I mean, there’s an extra 14 megapixels we’re talking here. There’s a lot more resolution to play with. My own experience, my opinion, you may think differently

Resolution does play a big role in microcontrast which translates to photos looking more realistic and detailed. Having extra data is never a bad thing. I agree that 41mp is a big leap compared to the V.

Damn. You sound like you just spent 1800 on an x100v last week, and you gotta cope with this release 😂 the 41mp can definitely make a huge difference

41mp does make a difference, especially that you can now use built-in digital converter, and turn 35mm lens into 50, 70mm full frame equivalent. Of course you will lose megapixels, at 70mm you will get 10 megapixel pictures, which is plenty for social media, websites and even printing. So you have 3 focal lengths in one camera, never have to change lenses again.
