The other thing that the drill at 2:06 practices, Felix, is your shape of shot on the backhand. From my perspective, your strokes look phenomenal, but a little more topspin and racquet head acceleration on your backhand could really help. The shot can get a little flat without a ton of net clearance. Fortunately, your timing on the backhand is fantastic, and you hit that shot well on the rise. But a little more shape on your stroke--so that it's not too linear and has some arc--would really help, especially on the clay.

Can I just complement you on your backhand - I haven't seen your videos for a while but you're striking the ball nice and solid now with a lot faster takeback and great speed through contact now.
@DATennis
@DATennis Жыл бұрын
His technique is bad, compare his backhand to anyone of the tour and it'll look closer to bad backhands like that of Felix Auger Alissaime which misses on the regular rather than Djokovic, Zverev, Rune. His hips are used wrong considering how front does his contact point is, his left elbow is in an awkward high and badly bent position, this is why his shots mistime so often. If his point of contact is so in front, he shouldn't be looking to have that brushed motion to generate topspin, it's outright terrible, needs to push in front with his right hand more like Korda whose strings end up facing up the sky instead of to the side at the end.

dont you ever feel that your backhand is quite stiff? if you want more acceleration you need to losen up a little your left arm and your wrists. the movement of your upper body reaches a plateau in ball speed very quickly. obviously you know that but i wonder why i can see no progress there.

I see people commenting on the lack of his backhand, what are your suggestions? Is his take back not enough? Contact too far in front? Not enough unit turn?
@DATennis
@DATennis Жыл бұрын
A lot is wrong, if he wants to have the contact so in front he needs to he have to use his hips as Djokovic does, not only that, he needs a flatter path so as to push through with his forehand instead of this brushed motion with his left hand that ends up making him lose power and tratectory. There would be nothing wrong with that brushed motion if his contact point was closer to his body. Also when he takes back his racket his left elbow is bent kind of out, creating this loop motion that's going to end with a slap, worst is that given he brushes the backhand he doesn't even get the power he would get from the slap (I still wouldn't recommend it). In othe words, he does basically everything wrong, the easiest fix for him would be to go for a flatter pathswing, to rotate his hips earlier and lower his left elbow. Hitting like Tiafoe or Kyrgios would make his results way more consistent, sure he wouldn't produce the spin Zverev or Djokovic can, but a consistent shot that lands deep would be a super improvement to his current erratic backhand.
@DATennis
@DATennis Жыл бұрын
The other one would be to take the racket fully back as Novak, Serena, Rune do, but honestly, when I see people who naturally struggle with the backhand it's just hard to teach them that and worse when they have that muscle memory so ingrained, I'd rather teach a simpler and compact swing as Kyrgios/Tiafoe that is easier to learn and is consistent.
