What an eventful Miss Universe 2021! Some pleasant surprises in the Top 16, some interesting exclusions and lots of history made, especially by India thanks to Harnaaz Sandhu, her country’s third Miss Universe.
Check out my full recap of the 70th anniversary Miss Universe, held on 12 December 2021 in Eilat, Israel.

I have no idea why so many Paraguay fans on social media were saying that Nadia not winning was "armed robbery", that "the crown was stolen from her" and that she was the "true winner". There was just something about her that rubbed me the wrong way that I couldn't put a finger on, Harnaaz was just brilliant and deserving of the crown. As a Canadian fan of the pageant, I just wonder what my country could do better in the future - we haven't won since Natalie Glebova in 2005 and haven't placed since Marta Stepien in 2018

Same case was with india. India was not winning any alpha paegant from 2000. In 2017 MW india won and now 2021 MU. I think india is on right track to regain the glory of the 1990s.

There is indeed something "off" about Nadia that I cannot put my finger on, Maybe her styling was a bit "harsh". If you stand her next to Harnaaz it is very apparently Harnaaz had the edge.

BRAVO FILIPINO DESIGNERS at MISS UNIVERSE 2021. Candidates who wore evening gowns made by Filipino designers were-- Miss South Africa, Miss USA, Miss Bahamas, Miss Ukraine, Miss Kenya, Malta, Great Britain, Honduras, and of course apart from Miss Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez. Miss Universe 2020 Andrea and Miss Universe 2016 Iris both were wearing Filipino designed gowns as well.

I'm so proud of Miss Singapore. She has amazing legs and is so well spoken. I am glad the judges are unbiased and do not sway by social media pressures and sash-factors but were objective in selecting this year's Top 16.

This review is the most professional review I have seen of the pageant. I totally agree with you about Steve Harvey’s hosting. Other reviewers didn’t mind his light hearted brush off of the names and goof ups, but it really shows the lack of passion and effort on the host’s part. Knowing the names of the judges is the least a host can do. I really hope they bring back someone to host who has a passion and the sophistication to keep up the production value of the pageant and is able to keep the focus on the contestants and not themselves.

Chantel O’Brian’s crossover from Miss World 2015 to Miss Universe 2021 indeed made history for The Bahamas. What I really appreciate about this edition is it felt like it gave us a good show and veered away with the political correctness the is has been forcing on us from the last previous edition. Israel is such a wonderful host and that last look segment still gives me goosebumps. The Philippines’s Beatrice Luigi Gomez has always been a silent killer. And to see her up there in the top 5 proves that you can’t count Philippines out and still very much a force to reckon with at Miss Universe. I am pleasantly surprised to see Singapore get the call. Actually so many pleasant surprises on top 16. South Africa went further than I expected. France should’ve stick to her prelims evening gown look. Paraguay is just a goddess but India is destined to be a Miss Universe. Steve Harvey needs to stop. He clearly has bias towards black semi finalists.

We are so proud of her.And my observations I think COLOMBIA and PHILIPPINES will continue to be the dominant in the years to come regardless of their placements. I wonder what the MU would look like with out this exciting and amazing ladies.Tnx🇨🇦😎

Do you know during question and answer round, Steve couldn't take the name of Indian judge Urvashi Rautela!!😆🤣🤣 As an Indian I was laughing so hard!! Hey Kumar! I’m glad you LOLed about it - Steve’s behaviour this year annoyed me especially so! How did he not familiarise himself with the names of the judges, when he knew he’d need to introduce some of them during the Top 5 Q&A round?! His lack of respect for cultural differences is inexcusable.
@manassinghal937

Actually he did know about Namaste because if you watch it closely, you'll notice that when Harnaaz says Namaste he nods his head slightly as a form of acknowledgement. I think he pulled off that you must stay part as a joke to make the atmosphere a little light hearted.

Yay so glad your review is here!!! Absolutely 100% agreed with everything you said. I just want to add that Steve's time is well and truly up. His "sense" or "style" of humour further perpetuates the perceived and many times often proven ignorance of Americans, and also further perpetuates the negative stereotype of the ignorance of black Americans in particular. The way he dismissed Miss Paraguay Nadia speaking an indigenous Paraguayan language I found particularly offensive, as an indigenous person and multilingual speaker myself. It just displays such ignorance that is so often consistent with monolingual English speakers, and a very colonial mindset at that. The fact that he hadn't yet learned how to pronounce Urvashi's name, which isn't very hard to pronounce by the way, I found very unprofessional and disrespectful too. He has fumbled Miss Universe 2016 Iris's name in the past. There's a place and time for humour and then there's a point at which you just come across as unprepared, unprofessional, ignorant and unbothered. You have to keep in mind, even if the queen herself doesn't take offense at what you've said, she represents a whole country, culture and people and they will take offense. If MUO wants a black comedian to host, there are so many others who will do a much better job than Steve, and show respect for the pageant and the international delegates. Anyways, another excellent review. Season greetings from dedicated subscriber in Fiji 🇫🇯

Great review again, handsome Roger! 😍😝☺️ • I was surprised that Miss Universe-Belgium 2021 (She’s so beautiful along with Clémence, Miss Universe-France 2021 OMG), Miss Universe-Chile 2021, Miss Universe-Spain 2021, Miss Universe-Namibia 2021 and Miss Universe-Mexico 2021 did not enter the Top 16... 😔 I’d also include Miss Universe-Argentina 2021 (Absolutely _STUNNING_ National Costume, with a commendable backstory on its use of materials) and Miss Universe-Peru 2021 not being chosen as surprising as well. (I truly hope they extend the number of finalists back to a Top 21 or even more, selecting only 16 candidates is so ruthless out of a sea of so many accomplished and qualified women. ✊🏾) • It was really endearing seeing contestants who do not normally advance as semi-finalists be recognised for their talents and skills, and to then see their genuine and earnest reactions, such as Miss Universe-Singapore 2021, Miss Universe-The Bahamas 2021, and especially Miss Universe-Aruba 2021! • It also bugged me that the timing for each contestant during the swimsuit & evening gown portions were not even, to give each delegate the chance to showcase their performing abilities to the extent they had been training for. • @13:52 I really liked Miss Universe-South Africa 2021 Lalela’s Top 5 answer! I agree with her and understood her sentiments as: If someone does or says something terribly wrong, hurtfully bigoted, and incredibly offensive, we _should_ cancel them. But if they show that they have truly tried to better themselves and show more enlightenment, growth and remorse for their actions, then we should believe that they have ~redeemed~ themselves back into society’s good graces and be accepted as a changed person. • *BTW!!!* Did you see Miss Universe-Portugal 2021 at the very left of the stage whip out her phone momentarily right before Steve Harvey announced Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu as the winner?!?!? 🤭🔍🧐 _P.S I bet that the people who preferred your previous format are far and few between, because I’m ~so~ glad you’re showing yourself at the forefront of your videos. 😊_ *And HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK ROGER!!! I hope you enjoyed a great birthday celebration with friends and family.* 🥳🙌🏾🎉

Always a great review and I agree with all. Venezuela and Vietnam definitely deserved top 10, I'd say Aruba was the weakest link but it was nice to see a new country at the top. Philippines, Colombia and India were the clear top 3 because 1: contestants who contradict themselves usually don't advance, her answer didn't even feel genuine or like she meant what she was saying, and 2: Paraguay's answer was just too pageant patty. Also, I wish people would stop blaming Steve, he doesn't pick the questions to ask the top 16. Anyway it was a great show that produced an amazing winner

I don’t remember where I heard it but apparently in years where a top 5 will be further cut down to 3, judges are instructed to focus on delivery and form in the top 5 q&a, 2 of the top 3 this year, although sounding very cliche and contradictory, spoke with confidence and conviction and that’s why they were picked. I also think Paraguay coasted along on her undeniable beauty. I love your channel. You deserve more views.

Thanks Bubba - I agree that judgement shouldn’t solely be based on the content of the answer, although it’s somewhat unclear what the criteria is. By having these rounds of competition, with so much emphasis on a single question, you can’t help but think that the answer itself needs to have impact to help the contestant advance. But indeed judgement should be based on overall potential to be a good ambassador for the MUO.

Yes it was quite a change this year, with so many new countries placing - tbh I was glad to see that. That’s a great stat you raise - I haven’t researched it fully, but I definitely will. From working backwards, I believe the entire Top 5 from 2003 (Dom. Rep, Venezuela, South Africa, Serbia & Montenegro and Japan) failed to place in 2004. But that is indeed quite a while ago!

This was the best Christmas present I got today! 🙂 Fantastic round up as always TPN, agree with it all. For me, Steve Harvey actually spoils the pageant for me. I guess being 53 years old, I was very lucky to witness the era of Bob Barker, Dick Clark and Bob Goen. Dick Clark I especially loved, but all 3 were exactly what a pageant host should be. They exuded class and professionalism. Sadly, Steve has none of those skills in relation to a pageant. Belated happy birthday! I too am a December baby and turned another year older on December 3. I’m really getting up there in the years now! Lol Thank you for all your amazing content this year. Your videos have been a highlight in a very trying time. I hope u had a nice Christmas Day today. Happy New Year also TPN. I’m not sure what 2022 will bring, but I hope it’s as safe and happy as possible for everyone. And like everyone else here, I too agree, you are super handsome! 😃 Best wishes and warmest regards from your fellow Aussie, James ❤️🙂

Congrats Beatrice Luigi Gomez for the TOP FIVE. She has the package ( beauty, talent, knowledge) & she could have been the 1st RUNNER-UP but MISS INDIA deserved the CROWN . I believed that being the MISS UNIVERSE is being the TRUE ESSENCE of being a WOMAN created by ALMIGHTY GOD with DISTINCT DESIGN & FUNCTION & NO HUMANKIND CAN ALTER. GOD BLESS you, Beatrice Luigi Gomez & experience the GOODNESS & FAITHFULNESS OF GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST!

Great review on MU2021. Probably the best I have seen so far; great job!! I must agree with your review of Steve Harvey. The jokes were rude throughout the years. Go back and review his comments to the Colombian candidates, cruel, insensitive. Go to 2019 when he told Gabriela Tafur about the Colombian Cartels looking for him. That was not cool, Colombia has moved past all the 1980s cartel dramas, it was painful for the entire country and very insulting to an entire nation. Hopefully they will get someone with better interest in the pageants to host the next MU.

At least he was not Bob Barker, whom I think often affect the outcome of the pageant with his onstage interviews. As much as Barker was probably the best host the pageant ever had, I have seen him unfairly give girls that he liked longer time and more questions while others barely get to speak at all.

This is the 37th placement for Colombia in all history of Miss Universe. Also Colombia has placed 18 times in the top 5 since 1958 to 2021.

What does mimicking an animal has to do with women empowerment... There's nothing wrong with that... We all have different tastes and talents, if we can ask contestants to show some dance moves, whats wrong with mimicking an animal... On stage light talks(interviews) in many ways help us to know our participants better... Which in Miss India's case was a big surprise coz she very intelligently managed to turn things around in her favour... Being an actress she must have done many such things on screen, then why not on a world stage (rather universe)... Love from India ❤️❤️❤️

Well in the US this was the first Christmas present to unwrap another video from TPN!. First - happy 30th birthday and I pray you stay healthy and happy in the new year. Hello to the TPN group - I remember some of the commenters and it is nice to "see" everyone again here in your forum. I only feel safe here to tell you TPN, and your fans what's in my heart about the pageant. I want everyone to know it's only here I feel comfortable because of the way TPN you lead with kindness and your followers do the same. First congratulations to the elegant, beautiful, and eloquent Haraanz - may her reign be happy and successful, and I can't wait to see what she does this year. My thoughts about Steve Harvey; I don't have any which should speak volumes. History we witnessed - the elegant Miss Bahamas making history and we witnessed it! The excitement of Singapore and Aruba and Japan and Great Brittan, really exciting to see! The thrill of seeing one of my personal favorites Bea making the top 5 - so happy for her and her country! My disappointments: I am still so sad for another personal favorite - Miss Thailand. I thought her message and her speaking and beauty were stellar and I had so hoped she would be able to speak to a global audience. It hurt to see her not place. For the first time in many years, I was so hopeful for my country and Elle. I remember her answer at Miss USA, and I thought to myself that perhaps she would be able to bring back the crown. When I learned that Michael Cinco was doing her gowns, I thought this is it we are really going to make a run at it. When she did not advance, I admit the tears flowed. Because I am not a professional, I can't tell if I am being objective or not about her advancement. Perhaps if she wore the prelims gown which was more dramatic, she would have moved into the top 5. So, there is my deep dark secret. HOWEVER, that does not take away my joy for crowning of Harnaaz who is a wonderful Miss Universe. I have told you my deep dark secrets LOL! Well, we are almost at the end of another year. TPN thank you (as your un-official President of your fan club) for the hours of enjoyment this year. We all wait for your content and appreciate it so much and value the time and effort you put into it. Thank you from all of us. And now since I suspect I am far older than all of you in this forum - ok here is a hint, I have been with my company for 43 years and still working there with NO retirement in sight - that should give you a hint. Because of my age I can get a bit preachy but here is my wish. I pray that ALL of you get a booster shot to keep you safe and out of harm's way. It is none of my business, but I still hope that happens. On this Christmas morning whatever holiday you celebrate I wish you peace, joy, and health and my fervent wish is that we meet again in the new year. Sending love, friendship and prayers from across the miles - Joseph from the USA.

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you, Joseph! Thanks as always for your kind words and for your own insightful observations. I’ve been a bit sidetracked with family duties over the break and haven;t gotten around to all the awesome comments left for my last video. Please forgive me! I hope you’ve had a wonderful yet safe festive season, and that it’s not too cold where you are! We certainly don’t have that issue in Sydney right now! All the best for a great year ahead - thanks as always for your incredible support and encouragement.
