I'd say this is more a how to do youth development more realistic. Training is definitely the most important for development ages 15-18 still. After that game time. Players develop all attributes even if you train a specific role that does not highlight that attribute, and it is more effective, so it's better to train roles and change which role you want to train the players in dependent on what attributes you want to focus on. Tactical familiarity isn't something that affects performance of a player sadly, so train the roles that focus on the attributes that are most important for the player you are developing.

I always play FM in as 'realistic' a way as possible, so that's definitely an accurate summary. Tactical familiarity will not improve a player's development but does have an effect on team morale and cohesion, so has a big indirect impact rather than the expected one. 👍

Great video! One issue for me. If you add an u21 player to the first team training units they train according to their schedule, but play games according to the u21 schedule. This might cause loss of training no? Lets say the u21s play on a saturday and the first team plays on a sunday. That player will play on saturday and miss the first team training, but on sunday there is no first team training so thats another training day lost (2 in total).

Very interesting video with lots of good ideas for promoting players in a realistic way. I have so many talents in my Schalke save that I can't loan them all out. The problem is that the standard FM doesn't include the 4th and 5th leagues in Germany, so the reserve teams usually don't have any league games. I'll load the Lower League file with the next save, so at least there will be some league games for the U23s. Should I loan them all out for free and focus on playing time? Or play friendlies with the reserve team? By the way, the loan manager is the most useless staff position together with the technical director. Nobody needs them.
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 7 ай бұрын
I'd always say loan them out if they have a decent personality, so long as they're going to be play regularly. The only ones I'd keep are those that need mentoring to improve their attitude. I agree on the loan manager, the role doesn't do anywhere near enough in FM. 👍

Solid video few issues tho. You should have made it clear that for players age 15-17 training is crucial, soon as they turn 18 its loan time (training is not as effective as playing time at this point). I would just find Rico a suttable loan since he's not good enough to play in Prem just yet. Also your choice for DLP role is a poor one since he has bad traits for it (Gets Forward and Play Short simple passes, stat wise first touch is also bad for higher level), he's more of a BWM with high aggression, work rate and bravery (also not great traits for that role). I would probably just leave him as WB or maybe turn him into a B2B.

Whilst that's the general rule, I disagree a little this year. If you have a player with a huge problem/deficit in their game, it's worth keeping them to train that for longer. FM has made it easier to develop players later now so an extra year of training development is no longer a big deal. Regarding the roles. As stated in the video, it's just an example. I'm not saying I'd use him in that role but was showing the example if you do pick that. 👍

Irrespective of the player’s attributes/traits it’s fairly useful to use a specific role to improve a player’s profile in a specific way that coincides with the type of football you want to play. As stated in the video. In terms of “Roles” in game, you can use contrary player profiles (attributes) and traits to achieve the style of football you want. For example, you can play a player who would seems like a ball winner and wants to be more mobile and play shorter as a DLP because you want him to be active in the defensive transition, create space for other midfielders by moving out of the way with forward runs, and keeping possession rather than playing longer passes. The DLP role will ask the player to be involved in the buildup process and be a hub for possession profile is their personality on the pitch. A player doesn’t just have to be perfectly aligned with the role he plays on the pitch.

To be honest when it comes to managing semi pro, training has little impact. Most of the time I'd recommend reducing intensity to help rest tired players when needed to fitness. Team bonding sessions and set pieces are huge too. 👍

I always thought that mentoring was only for young players.. so it can also be used by experienced older players who have problems fitting into the team?
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 4 ай бұрын
Mentoring groups affect personality, social dynamics and preferred moves. Unless they have a big reputation, new players will normally need mentoring. IRL, most new players/new employees will always be mentored and supported in their first few months. 👍

I think I done a step wrong all the youth I signed it put them in the first team in friendlies does this end up changing?
@LoadFM

If you just add them to the training units, rather than moving them to the first team squad, they shouldn't play in senior games. 👍

When I use training Units to add youth to those units, I notice that the U21 players are now available to be mentored by 1st team players. Is that another benefit of training units ? For some reason the U18 players are not available to be mentored though....is that expected?
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 5 ай бұрын
I would expect that's fairly standard. Generally, the academy players will train in the youth facilities, whilst senior players and reserves/development team train in senior facilities. It's probably a simple way for FM to force both training and youth facilities to have an impact on the game. In theory, your first team and U21s will be training in the same place, so it works easily there. 👍

How would you deal with a 15-17yo player with clearly low professionalism, since you cant mentor them if they are not in first squad training and surely it wouldnt be good for them to raise them there ? Problem with leaving them to youth team untill 18 and then mentoring is that they dont really progress without the mentoring first 🤔
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 3 ай бұрын
You can set up mentoring groups within development teams, as long as you're in charge of their training. I'd get an old senior pro with a great attitude, like say Liverpool have done with Spearing IRL and get him mentored in his development side. 👍
@williamcross210

I would say, I almost completely do the early years differently than you. I move most of my good potential players up to the first team to train pretty early, as my best coaches are on the senior team. Also if they have bad personalities and high potential they get moved up to get in a good mentoring group. I also use weekly Team Bonding training to improve the social groups. I also use the position/role training because this gives bonuses in attributes. Rico Lewis at 16 I would have trained as a DM with a defensive midfielder on support role. This would likely improve the attributes he would need for pretty much all his positions. I also don't really buy the "I can't afford to play my youngsters, we might lose" brigade. That might be true in real life, but it is rarely true in FM. My top 16-21 year olds have had about 5-10 starts by 2/3rds of the way through the season. We are 4th in the EPL with 1 loss as Spurs and won the Carabao Cup playing 5 of my young studs
@Guyrald
@Guyrald 8 ай бұрын
question: if you move your youngster to senior training unit, meaning they will use senior team training schedule right? isn't it better for the young kid to have more training session? (by staying on u21 training unit)
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 8 ай бұрын
I think that's more differences in the way we play the game, in fairness. I try to manage realistically, so tend to avoid things that wouldn't be done IRL but are easy in FM. As you know, I'm also very strong about improving my coaching team even before the playing squad. With that in mind, my youth coaches are often excellent too.😂
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 8 ай бұрын
If you move them in training unit rather than squad, they will train sessions that include their unit at senior level. When that doesn't apply, they will revert to their youth squad schedule. They don't miss out on training (unless they're playing in a youth match) as a result. 👍

If you put the young players in the first teams training, dont they lose one day training when the first team has a game and the youth team dont?
@LoadFM
@LoadFM 2 ай бұрын
If you put them in the first team squad, yes. If you add them to the senior training units, no. As they are still in the Youth Team squad, they revert to youth team training when there is no appropriate senior session. Don't forget, if you add a player to a senior defensive unit, they will only take part in senior defensive specific sessions. Otherwise, they still follow their youth team or development team calendar. 👍
