One day the teacher finally picked him to do one of the hardest formulas that even the smartest kids in class couldn't do. This sounds sooo Japanese hahaha... I've had similar experiences while living in Japan. I was studying at a Japanese university, and I had a problem with my uni work at one point (long story). So many of the university's staff would try their hardest to speak to me in English, and honestly I would go along with it a lot of the time because they started the conversation in English so I thought it would be rude to change language mid-way through the convo. Eventually I would say to them in Japanese, "If it's easier, we can speak Japanese too". Seeing the relief on their faces was one of the most funniest/ satisfying things.

When he put his Jikoshokai (self introduction) up, I paused and read the whole thing first before looking at the English. I've learnt Japanese for years so I understood it immediately and then looked down at his translation, and it was EXACTLY what it meant, which made me SO HAPPY! I have seen so many people try to translate it and it's just god awful and you know it's probably just from Google translate like "hello my name age is egg." (I have actually seen that before, it made my brain hurt). But yeah, it's just really cool seeing the correct translation and it shows that Erold actually cares and I RESPECT THAT DUDE! Also when he said learning Japanese is hard and that the three different alphabets and the grammatical structure is difficult, I FELT that. Flashbacks to my time learning Japanese. Most stressful 10 years of my life.

In my experience Japanese people generally appreciate anyone who has put the effort into actually learning the language as opposed to the usual anime buzzwords, and I’ve been in a comparable situation in both the west (USA specifically) and Japan. In Japan I was in a bar and spoke Japanese to a new female acquaintance. She was so pleasantly surprised that she introduced me to her friends as a guy with 凄い日本語 (amazing Japanese, which was an exaggeration imo due to my small vocabulary at the time, but maybe she meant my grammar and pronunciation?). Then she pointed out one of the friends in particular as being good at English. So English speaking girl and I kinda have a friendly competition, one-upping each other (I wrote something down in Japanese, then she wrote something in English). The others backed off and, as the night continued, what was basically my first date in Japan materialized from thin air. In summation: Step 1) Look obviously not Japanese. Step 2) Speak decent Japanese. Step 3) Possess rudimentary social skills (this one is the dealbreaker for many, I know. Sorry) Step 4) ??? Step 5) Waifu.

I feel bad for Amy that she can’t really explain something well,but can do it exceptionally like isn’t that kinda sad.
