Aka Prog Rock. Has a nice ring to it, kinda like the music. Also would fall under the broader term of Classic Rock.

It's correct vice versa too: - What is prog rock? - It's Rush. I mean Rush is the first band that comes to mind if someone asks about prog rock.
@jeffjones6221
@jeffjones6221 3 ай бұрын
@@glebivanov6323 I'd call Blood, Sweat &Tears prog rock, Chicago, prog rock after BST. Rush would carry that torch, but without the horns and jazz element. Tool and others, but I'd say Tool because they're the most mainstream, has taken the mantel from Rush. Much like the progression of Southern rock. Just a take from a studio engineer since '80. ✌️

Geddy Lee is a beast. Dude plays bass, guitar, synth, PEDAL bass synth, and hand percussion all while singing. Lotta sound coming from three dudes but three dudes do rather well sometimes... For Tom Sawyer, who calls the streets his home. Sustained by the friction and fluidity of street life. Feeding off the energy he receives from random passersby and their caloric thoughts toward him. He knows it could all change. And always does.

Obviously it's not for everybody. Thank you Storm for giving them a listen. Appreciate your honest reaction. Compared to what you kids listen to today...it probably is a bit odd sounding. Solution....listen to more! Your generation has been robbed. Expand your musical exposure. No matter the genre or era. You will be the better for it.

When you've listened to Rush starting from their first album, you are amazed at the evolution of their sound throughout each preceding album, and that is why Tom Sawyer was received as one of their best songs. She might get fidgety listening to 2112 because of the length, but The Spirit Of Radio is one song where you can hear their progression from 2112 to Tom Sawyer.

Hey man, I've been a Rush fan for as long as I remember. Tom Sawyer and YYZ were off of the "Moving Pictures" album. If you ever get a chance you should listen to the song "Witch Hunt". It's off of the same album. I always loved that song. It was not as popular as their other ones. But I think you'll love it. But I was blessed enough in life to see them in concert 2 separate times. The last concert I saw with them was in Houston, Texas in 2010. They played every hit song from their first album "2112" to their last album "Snakes and Arrows". But they also played every song off of the Moving Pictures Album. The show was 3 hours long and it was only Rush. I literally have tears in my eyes while typing this. R.I.P. Neil Peart. They were, and still are, amazing! I know it may be hard to believe, but life was just better back in the day. It was just a better world. I guess I'm turning into an old man myself now. I'd give anything to go back and do it all over again. But I'm glad to see younger people still keeping their music alive. Thank you young man. I know the world is a different place now, but you would have loved the way it was back then. I know that today we are all digitally connected. But back then, we were all physically connected. We couldn't wait to get up and go out into the world every day. I apologize for the reading assignment, but thanks for letting an old man have an emotional moment. Peace, love, and prosperity, to you, your friends, and your loved ones.

I know how you feel, introducing Rush to someone and hoping they'll love it too. One time a co-worker and I were talking bands and I asked who his fav band was and he gave me a look...I knew that look, I had felt it on my own face when I was trying to decide if this person would get it when I said Rush. So when he said Rush was his favorite band I felt cool because he'd seen something in me that he could be honest with.

So cool even the most novice listener knows drumming excellence when they hear it.

I've been a huge fan since '79, and I've found over many, many years that I need to hear their works multiple times before understanding where they're going with any particular track. The thing about Geddy's voice - just think of its high pitch as another instrument and notice that they incorporate it fully with lower tones throughout each song... It grows on you over time.

Most people like The Spirit of Radio because it’s much more radio friendly sounding, which also ties into the theme of the song.

You should watch the live video of Xanadu. It shows the full range of all three of these guys. And Neil's drum solo in Frankfurt shows his amazing rotating drum kit.
